Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Did I upset him.
“Ugh, I missed the real entertainment.” Gina sighed with exaggerated frustration before glancing to the side.”But I am glad we had our little soldier to protect you,” she praised the little girl sitting next to her on the chair, patting her head with a proud smile.
Seren flashed a cheeky smile before shoving another piece of the burger into her mouth.
Upon arriving at Byron’s ward, Gina encountered the commotion that Dorothy attempted to instigate; however, Winter left her feeling humiliated before her scheme could take flight.
All her anxiety disappeared when she understood that everything was managed and Winter had everything in hand.
“Dorothy would be pleased to spend her time with her daughter. After all, they both sprained their legs,” Gina grinned, taking a sip from her drink.
Winter narrowed her eyes, captivated by Gina’s words.
“Why would Agnes have a sprained ankle?” she inquired, intrigued by what her friend was attempting to convey.
Given what Dorothy did, Gina would not have bothered to bring up Agnes’s topic during their pleasant encounter, but she felt compelled to do so.
…
Winter stared at Gina in astonishment before erupting into a fit of laughter.
Seren glanced back and forth between the two ladies, both of whom seemed to have completely lost their minds.
“Mommy, did Nana say something funny? Didn’t you say it’s bad to laugh at someone’s misery?” Seren asked, wiping the smiles off their faces.
Winter cleared her throat awkwardly and swiftly took a sip from the glass of water beside her hand.
“Let’s move on and not discuss anything else. Did my Seren find the food delicious?” Gina shifted the conversation, her bright eyes sparkling as she focused on the little girl.
“I did” Seren’s expression shifted from confusion to a radiant smile, filling Gina’s heart with immense happiness.
While the trio enjoyed their meal, the phone in Gina’s bag unexpectedly rang. She politely excused herself, swiftly retrieved it, and answered.
“What are you saying, Annie?! HOW CAN THEY TERMINATE MY CONTRACT?” Gina’s voice drew significant attention from those nearby, prompting her to quickly lower her tone.
Winter and Seren on the other hand exchanged a worried glance before quickly refocusing their attention on Gina. She seemed to be in distress as she continued to converse on the call, and by the time she finished, her eyes were ablaze with intensity.
“What occurred?” Winter asked.
Gina fired her furious eyes at her friend and revealed, “My agency terminated my contract, and now I am jobless.” she slammed the phone on the table startling the two.
“Jobless? Mommy, what is joblessness?” Seren inquired, lightening the tense atmosphere with her inquisitive chatter.
“It means your Nana won’t be travelling that often and she would get more time to spend with you,” Gina said to Seren, her mood shifting as she spoke with a serene composure.
Winter scoffed in disbelief sitting on the side, while Seren couldn’t contain her happiness.
“Mommy, did you hear? Nana will be spending more time with us!” Seren embraced Gina, hugging her for sharing a good news.
Although Gina felt depressed, Seren’s hug truly alleviated her anger.
They swiftly finished the dinner and departed the restaurant.
“Are we on the same page?” Winter inquired, halting Gina in her tracks. They exchanged a curious glance, and she gave a nod.
“However, I still need to check with my agency about the entire matter.I won’t allow them to destroy my career like this,” she asserted.
Gina was not the type to overlook this matter; she would pursue the truth relentlessly.

Winter concurred, yet beneath the surface, she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was tied to Agnes’s wrongdoing.
“Anyway, you two should head back,” Gina said as she began searching for a ride.
While Winter grabbed Seren’s hand, a sleek black car rolled in front of them, stopping them in their tracks putting an end to their prior arrangement.
Gina blinked, while Winter swiftly composed herself upon recognizing who it was.
Without warning, the front door swung open and Sean emerged. The moment his gaze encountered Gina, he swiftly turned away and moved towards the back seat door, gracefully opening it for Winter and Seren.
“Daddy!” Seren instantly let go of her mother’s hand and jumped into the car, landing in her father’s lap.
Gina blinked as she attempted to peak into the car, however Winter’s words captured her attention.
“Is it alright if we wait for Gina’s cab to arrive?” Winter leaned slightly as she conversed with the man in the car, but Gina promptly disagreed.
“That’s alright, Wine, I can handle it. You and Seren should probably leave,” Gina declined immediately, even though staying longer would allow her to admire the handsome guy before her.
Sean glanced at Gina, who gave him a playful wink, catching him completely by surprise.
Her cab arrived shortly after, and she bid them farewell, leaving Sean feeling depressed. It was unusual that he found himself becoming concerned about a girl. But then he remembered something that made his heart race.
She was not a stranger to him, especially since he always kept his eye on her while they observed Winter’s and Seren’s life back in Country K.
The only thing was that their paths had crossed just a day prior.
Sean disregarded the fleeting thoughts and locked the door once Winter entered, quickly taking the front passenger seat.
The journey to the penthouse was enjoyable, thanks to Seren’s ongoing conversations. She was quite the talker, sharing every detail of her day, and when she said all, she truly meant it, including the whole Dorothy situation.
“Daddy, do you think I was wrong to waste my hot chocolate on that mean lady?” Seren’s doe-like eyes looked up at her father with anticipation.
Kalix rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I think I would have something horrendous instead,” he muttered under his breath, leaving Winter stunned.
She blinked and swiftly directed her daughter’s attention toward her. “Seren, I already mentioned that we won’t discuss it again.”
Seren pouted, her shoulder drooping in resignation. “I am sorry,” she said, agreeing with her mother.
Kalix couldn’t resist the urge to gently caress her head. “Your mom is right, Star. You ought to pay attention to whatever she says.” he said cheering his daughters mood.
Winter couldn’t believe what she was hearing, but she was relieved he didn’t say those things to his daughter; otherwise, she might have felt like praising herself.
As soon as the trio made their way inside the house, butler James stepped forward to greet them.
“Master, shall I prepare the dinner for the three of you?Following your guidance, we ensured everything aligns with madame’s and young miss’s preferences,” his words prompted Winter to gaze at Kalix in surprise, yet he immediately declined.
“I am not hungry,” he said, leaving the old man surprised. He then composed his expression and turned his gaze toward Winter.
“And you, Madam Winter?” he asked, putting Winter in a tough situation. If she’d known he wanted to eat supper with them, she wouldn’t have agreed with Gina.
“We won’t, either, Butler James. Seren and I had our dinner out,” she said, her tone laced with apology.
Without bothering, the elderly man promptly excused himself., but something within Winter stirred at the thought of Kalix’s desire to have dinner with them, but before she could respond, he and Sern were already making their way upstairs.
With a heavy sigh, Winter followed them and soon stepped into her room. They quickly freshen up and Winter tucked her daughter to bed with a bedtime story; but no matter what Kalix’s sleeping empty stomach bothered her.
‘Did I upset him. If yes then shouldn’t he have informed me about the whole arrangement’ she pondered, running her mind over Kalix’s intention.
Her gaze darted to Seren, and once she found her deep in sleep, she quietly slipped out of the bed and the room, making her way toward the kitchen with caution.
Julian who was about to leave was taken aback to find Winter by the door, but her words left her utterly unprepared.
