“You are not going to open the door,” Winter snapped, warning Kalix to remain seated on the bed.
Kalix looked at Winter with a playful glint in his eyes. He never imagined that such a bold woman as her would ever find herself frightened by her own daughter, and for what reason?
“No, I won’t allow my daughter to wait outside,” he said, ignoring her warning as he rose to his feet.
Winter sensed that the gods were exacting punishment upon her for even entertaining the idea of spending time with this devil. And even before she could come up with a solution, a sleepy voice called her attention.
“Mommy, why did you leave me alone?” Seren gazed at Winter while being held in her father’s arm. She awoke to the sight of the vacant bed and swiftly went in search of her mother in her father’s room.
“Did you both ditch me just to sleep together?” she asked with a sad pout.
“Who said we were sleeping together? No, not at all,” Winter interrupted, dismissing all her claims.
Seren frowned and glanced back at her parents. As her father stood without a shirt, her mother looked somewhat worn out, her clothes in disarray.
“Then what are you doing here?” she inquired, her brow furrowed deeply in anticipation.
Kalix stood there, concealing his smile, yet he continued to tease with his eyes.
Winter, on the other hand, found herself fumbling. She was furious with the way Kalix teased her, yet Seren’s words heightened her anxiety even further.
“I-I… came here too…” she started coming up with an excuse, but Kalix butted in.
“Star, don’t be upset with your Mommy. She simply came to hand me the food. Remember, I didn’t have dinner,” he said, diverting his daughter’s attention.
Her knitted brows and puffed cheeks resembled an adorable cannonball, and he found himself unable to resist pinching them.
“Can you see the tray? I just had my dinner,” he said, gesturing towards the bed.
Seren’s anger swiftly faded, and she blinked with contemplation. “Did Mom come here to feed you?” she inquired, and he nodded in response.
‘There he goes… can’t he just refrain from answering all of her questions?’ Winter shot a disdainful look at Kalix, her eyes piercing as she silently chastised him for his loose tongue.
“Now that you’ve finished your dinner, how about we head back to bed, Star?” Winter suggested, glancing at her daughter. She just wanted to leave; however, the response she got left her stunned.
“I want us to sleep with Daddy,” she declared, snatching the smile off Winter’s face.
Kalix looked at Winter’s ever-pale face and spoke. “Why not? We have enough rooms for the two of you,” he said gently, carrying Seren to the bed, while Winter remained frozen in place like a statue.
‘What is going on with me? Did I really make a mistake by coming here? ‘Winter wanted to cry, but when Seren summoned her, she swiftly collected herself.
“Mommy, please come to bed and share the stories you always tell me with Daddy.” Seren gently patted the empty space on the bed before turning to her father.
“Daddy, Mommy tells the best bedtime stories,” she said, and Kalix looked up to see Winter making her way to the bed.
“Then I guess we should listen to one. What do you think, Mommy?” Kalix inquired, hoping to catch Winter’s attention, but she simply ignored him and focused on her daughter.
“Go back to sleep, Star. Mom is tired, and so are you and Daddy,” Winter said, pulling the comforter up before staring at Kalix.
“And I only tell one bedtime story,” she said, averting her eyes from Kalix, who couldn’t help but keep staring at her intently.
He could feel that his earlier behavior had upset her, but he was determined not to make Star wait for them to open the door.Whatever it was, he couldn’t bring himself to upset his beloved women.
Even though Seren dozed down again quickly, Winter could feel Kalix’s watchful gaze on her.
“I mean it. I will not share any stories.” Winter murmured with her eyes still closed, her hand gently patting Seren’s chest.

Kalix emitted a gentle laugh, prompting Winter to finally open her eyes and look at him in astonishment.
“Did I say something funny?” she inquired, and he merely shook his head.
“No, but you do look funny with that little frown. Are you always this annoyed, or does it only happen on occasions?” Kalix asked, propping himself up a little.
Winter’s lips quirked with irritation. It wasn’t only his actions from earlier that irritated her; his words also ignited her anger.
“Will you please be quiet and go to sleep?” Winter gritted through her teeth, observing him shrug as if her words were merely a passing suggestion.
Despite her urge to walk out, Winter continued to heed her daughter’s words and attempted to sleep; however, Kalix found herself unable to blink.
It wasn’t due to having someone to share his bed with, but rather because of the insomnia he developed after his parents’ death. He struggled to sleep without the pills; however, with these two by his side, he could finally discover the peace he had sought for all his life.
“Good night,” he said, settling back onto his side.

“How long will this continue, Roger? It’s not as if I said anything offensive for you to treat me this way,” Rita said to her husband as she sat on the bed while he continued to ignore her and focus on his laptop.
Rita waited for his response, and when he remained silent, she pushed the laptop away.
“What’s the matter, Roger? Why are you acting so distant toward me?” Rita spoke once more, her tone heavy with sadness, which finally allowed Roger to move past his anger.
“What am I doing, Rita? You are the one who is desperately trying to overlook the entire situation. Do you really believe it’s just to compel Kalix to marry your sister when he has explicitly stated that he isn’t prepared for that commitment? He has a daughter, Rita,” Roger said, feeling helpless.
Ever since Rita pursued his grandfather about the alliance between Diana and Kalix, he realized it wouldn’t yield any results.
He understood his brother thoroughly, and there was no chance that even Grandpa could alter his decision. However, on that day when they discovered that Kalix had a daughter, something within him screamed that his brother had finally found someone he could depend on, and it was evident that Diana was not even a contender.
Rita rolled her eyes, her displeasure clear on her face.”That doesn’t mean he has to marry the mother of his daughter. Furthermore, I will not allow Grandpa to go back on his words. He ought to understand that my dad nearly gave his life to protect his son and daughter-in-law. He accepted responsibility for us.”
Roger gazed at his wife, unable to comprehend what he was seeing. She was so straightforward that she overlooked the fact that she was discussing his deceased parents.
“You know what, do whatever you want, but from now on we are not going to talk about this,” Roger said, slamming the laptop shut in frustration before walking out of the room, leaving Rita alone.
“Ah! You can’t walk on me like that, Roger,” Rita sneered, struggling to maintain her composure; however, her words were unheard as Roger had long walked away.
