Chapter 34: Chapter 34: She thinks she can play with fire, but she is mistaken
Roger took a drag on his cigarette while standing against the balustrade on the patio. His thoughts reflected on his decision to marry Rita in the first place.
There was never any love, only a sense of responsibility for his past actions that he never truly seemed to remember.
“And an argument culminates in a stressful disagreement.” Roger paused and directed his gaze toward Lilac.
Stepping into the patio, she approached her brother, who merely smiled at her.
“You have exceeded the curfew, Lilac. I hope Grandpa isn’t awake or it might land you in trouble,” he said, taking another drag.
Lilac would not have taken the effort to ascend the stairs to the terrace had she not seen her brother smoking. This event would not have occurred unless he was preoccupied with stress or a disagreement with his wife.
“Don’t worry, he won’t say anything,” Lilac reassured him, following his lead.
The few seconds lingered in silence till he completed his task and said, “I am sorry for Rita’s behavior this morning.”
Roger turned and observed Lilac rolling her eyes, which made him chuckle at her response.”Whatever,” she said, quickly dismissing his concerns.
They both understood how Rita had been determined to marry her sister into the Andreas family. And their grandpa, being the partial one, would never find any flaw in her.
“I can see my sister finally getting serious about something,” he said, shifting the topic to lighten the mood.
Lilac cast him a curious glance and inquired, “Serious about what? Ah, the blind date with Damien. Not at all; it’s merely a scheme to prevent Grandpa from arranging other blind dates for me.”
Roger raised an eyebrow, casting a look of surprise at his sister.”You are faking it!” He was astonished that Lilac would go so far as to devise something like this.
“Clearly, you believe I’m prepared to tie the knot at this stage,” she tossed her hair over her shoulder and shrugged.”It’s merely a reason to alleviate Grandpa’s concerns about my life.”
Roger sighed and shook his head in resignation. “Good, because it seems much better than the previous one. We had to track you down after you pushed us away for nearly a week.”
“Why does everyone keep taunting about it? I wasn’t going to run forever; it was just an escape,” she stated plainly.
And to be precise, she never regretted doing it.
“Whatever, but don’t think of pulling that stunt again. You got us worried, Lilac,” Roger attempted to reason, but Lilac interrupted him.
“That’s why my brother Kalix ended up installing a tracker on my phone. Are you kidding me? Did you really agree to it, brother?” She exclaimed in disbelief.
“You left us no choice, Lilac. Trust me, if you behave, we might as well uninstall it,” he said, and she simply rolled her eyes, knowing it wasn’t even a choice.
The pair engaged in conversation for some time before heading to their respective bedrooms.
Lilac closed the door behind her and leaned against it, contemplating the choice she had made regarding her fake relationship with Damien.
“I need to keep pretending for a while before I can come up with a solid reason for the breakup,” she said, pausing.
“But how about Stanley? Will he ever be envious of me and Damien’s relationship?” She felt a piercing sensation in her chest as she considered the possibility that her plans might not succeed.

Walking out of his room, Sean entered the kitchen to get some water, but the sleeking sound of someone sharpening the blade interrupted his thoughts, leading him to the area in the living hall where he discovered Standley admiring the knife in his hand.
“Are you planning to sharpen all of your knives tonight? If yes, then please check the one in the kitchen,” Sean said, taking a sip from the bottle and slumping tiredly onto the couch.
Stanley shot him a seething glare, which he dismissed with a wave of his hand. “The amount of effort you are putting into those blades while neglecting your sleep, I can’t help but wonder what’s troubling you,” he said, interrupting Standley’s task.

“If you continue to speak nonsense, I will show you just how sharp it can be by cutting out your tongue.” Stanley’s words had a menacing tone that could easily frighten anyone, yet Sean remained unfazed. In fact, it only deepened his doubts about his ruined mood.
“Whoa… now that you’re being honest, I can clearly sense that there’s something weighing on your mind. Tell me, did someone upset you?” Sean inquired with curiosity, his eyes brimming with joy.
“You do harbor a desire for death, don’t you, Sean?” This time, his words sent a shiver down his spine, snatching the smile off his face and he gulped.
Sean stood up awkwardly and decided to leave but paused at the thought of speaking again; nevertheless, the sight of Stanley wielding the knife at him made him flee like a scared cat.
The moment he closed the door, the expression on Standley’s face grew even more somber. Even the air around him thickened, emitting an overpowering aura.
“She thinks she can play with fire, but she’s mistaken.” His eyes glimmered with undeniable intensity as he remembered Lilac and Damien leaving the office together, and he scoffed.
“Let’s see how long it lasts,” his taunting tone echoed in the stillness as he shifted his focus back to the knife in his hand.

The next morning, Winter awoke feeling refreshed, but as she turned to the side, she realized the bed was empty.
Pushing herself up, she looked around the silent room until a playful voice from the window caught her attention.
Walking towards the window, Winter slid the curtains aside and peeked out. A smile instinctively appeared on her lips as she watched Seren playing with her father.
She never envisioned her daughter could be this happy, and as she kept observing, it became increasingly clear how much Seren longed for a fatherly presence in her life.
Her gaze gradually shifted to the man who was the source of her happiness, and as soon as he sensed her gaze, he quickly turned his eyes back to the window, surprising Winter.
“What on earth am I doing?” She leaped, swiftly drawing the curtains shut and racing out of the room in caution.
