Chapter 36: Chapter 36: HE FIRED YOU
“Miss Winter, it’s your turn,” the lady outside the interview room announced, and Winter quickly stood up, making her way inside.
Entering, her gaze immediately landed on the three individuals who were staring at her with intrigue. She quickly realized that they already recognized her, yet she persisted in pretending not to know.
Winter greeted them courteously before taking on the seat in front of them.
Even though Winter had interviewed before, those eyes intimidated her this time.
Dianna, in charge of the interview, maintained a neutral expression, yet her intense gaze caused Winter to swallow nervously.
‘No one knows you, Winter, so don’t let this look bad on you,’ she reminded herself, pushing aside all the fleeting thoughts and continuing to portray a professional look.
Soon, the interview began, with a heavy air surrounding it.
“Miss Winter Greyson, what prompted you to consider our company?” Dianna shifted her gaze from the file in front of her and then returned her attention to Winter.
Although she was familiar with her, the decision to come in for an interview in their company, especially with her father being a renowned businessman, piqued her curiosity. She couldn’t help but trust the rumors going around.
‘She didn’t conceal her surname, though,’ Dianna thought with a smirk.
With a composed demeanor and a calming tone, Winter replied, “I understand that maintaining accurate financial reporting and driving efficiency in accounting processes are key priorities for your organization. My extensive experience in financial planning, compliance, and process optimization aligns well with those needs.”
Dianna admired her confidence. She realized that Winter was not merely beauty without brains; rather, she possessed knowledge about her field that could take her far.
There wasn’t much need for them to continue to interview, as Winter already had experience in that field. However, the policies and the CEO’s strict orders compelled them to follow the procedure.
As the interview continued, Kalix’s eyes remained focused on the screen in his office, his gaze unwavering. He was impressed with how Winter confidently handled the interviewer, especially Dianna. She wasn’t the easiest person to approach, yet he felt assured that Winter would manage well and navigate the interview smoothly.
“Boss…” Sean entered but paused at the gesture of Kalix’s hand.
Sean darted his eyes to the screen, a sense of curiosity washing over him, but as he continued to listen, a smile crept onto his lips.
“Miss Winter is so cool. I can already see her winning hearts,” Sean said excitedly, observing Kalix’s delighted smile.
“She possesses an enchanting allure that can captivate anyone. However, I would rather have her all to myself.” Sean’s smile wavered at Kalix’s casual remark, but he simply nodded.
“Yes,” he responded, feigning a smile.
Sean stood patiently until Kalix had finished watching the interview.
“What brings you here?” he asked, and Sean’s expression darkened.
“We found Richard,” he remarked, making the entire atmosphere in the room dismal.
“Have Stanley take care of him,” Kalix stated in an unsympathetic tone, his eyes sharing a hidden meaning with Sean.
“He is on his way, Boss,” Sean replied; however, his contemplation caught Kalix’s eyes.
“What is it?” he asked, and Sean began to respond.
“Should we inform Miss Winter?” he asked, and Kalix pondered for a few moments.
“Not unless I meet him first. I heard that her father is attempting to sway all the board members by disseminating misleading information regarding Byron’s declining health condition. However, that is not the reality. I inquired with the doctor managing the case, and he mentioned the improvement they reported in Byron yesterday.” Kalix shared one confidential news he managed to retrieve from his daughter.
Even if Winter didn’t inform him, his eyes were everywhere.
“As you say, Boss.” With that, Sean excused himself.

Winter exited the room, releasing a deep sigh. She was confident in the quality of her answers to their questions, yet she still struggled to fully understand the notion of selection.
As she settled back into her seat, she retrieved her phone and turned it on, only to be greeted by her screen flickering with lots of notifications and missed calls.
She would have declined to engage if they were merely spam calls, but to her surprise, the calls were from her father as well as Hayes.
Winter chose to call Hayes instead of her father as she stepped away to a quiet place.
The ring went once, and the phone was answered, perplexing Winter with its hurry.
“Hayes-”
“Winter, there is a problem here.” As soon as those words left his mouth, Winter braced herself for what was coming ahead.

“HE FIRED YOU!” Winter nearly gasped, her mind going blank after Hayes revealed David’s decision to terminate him from his job, leaving him unemployed with the explanation that he was no longer needed there.
Winter believed that with Hayes’ assistance, she could halt the polling, as she was certain the man possessed the ability to sway their opinions. However, David didn’t give him a chance and fired him without a second thought.
“Miss, what are we going to do now? I’m not even permitted to enter the company, much less speak with any of the board members,” Hayes expressed, leaving Winter in an even greater dilemma.
They had only a day to accomplish their tasks, but now, with their plan unraveling, she found herself in a difficult situation.
“Give me a moment, Hayes. There has to be a way out of this,” Winter lamented. She refused to give up.
As Winter continued to pace, her mind raced to think of an idea, and then suddenly, a thought clicked.
“I must speak with Kalix. He can help us out,” she said quickly hanging up the call.
As she made her way back to the waiting area, she noticed the lady from earlier.
“Miss Winter Greyson, congratulations on your selection. You will soon be escorted to the CEO’s office for the final affirmation,” the lady said.
The cautious expression settled on Winter’s face as she nodded and followed the lady to the CEO’s office. Despite this, she never once saw Dianna staring at her as they left.
“That is odd. Our CEO rarely shows concern regarding the interview. Why did he choose to look at this one?” Dianna shot a puzzled glance at Flinn, the colleague.
Even though he expressed it casually, it ultimately piqued Dianna’s interest, making her jealous.
