Chapter 35: Chapter 35: All the best
“What! Did he really ask you to move out?” Winter shouted, breaking the stillness within the car.Her voice was so loud that it drew the attention of three men sitting inside.
Their curious eyes cautioned her and she quickly looked away while secretly continuing her talk.
“What will you do now, Gina?” she whispered, pressing the phone close to her lips.
When Agnes replaced Gina, Winter was shocked to learn that the agency had terminated all of her contracted work. Not only did she lose the ongoing campaign, but she also missed out on a few ramps that she was hoping to walk as a runway model.
“You have no idea how frustrated I am right now, Winter.” Gina’s voice echoed, causing Winter to shudder. “I will certainly break her leg this time if I ever get my hands on that girl.”
Their friendship was characterized by a similar temperament, but Winter opted to be the calm one in order to soothe her friend.
Gina took a few deep breaths and steadied her nerves. “I need to move out for now, and don’t worry, Lily has already found a place for me,” she assured.
“I truly value Lily’s commitment to you.” Winter couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride for those who genuinely supported Gina, including her manager, especially after the unexpected resignation that followed the sudden replacement.
She could finally relax, assured that Lily had prepared everything for her.
“You know that girl is totally obsessed with me,” Gina joked, causing Winter to burst into laughter.
“She is not at fault. Lily genuinely admires you and cares for you as a true friend,” Winter remarked, to which Gina agreed.
The girls continued their conversation, offering encouragement to each other and taking mental notes before ending the call.
While a smile lingered on Winter’s lips even after the call ended, a certain someone felt abandoned throughout.
“You never smile for me like you just smiled for your friend.” Kalix’s words made Sean cough in the front seat.
Sneaking a glance at Kalix’s gloomy expression, Sean quickly averted his gaze.
“Are you going to dwell on a trivial matter?” She said this while shoving her phone into her purse.”Moreover, there is nothing about you that makes me smile.”
Her words were a huge offense to Kalix’s ego; however, he continued to remain calm.
“So, I guess I have to put in the effort to achieve that, don’t you think, angel?” he said, seizing her attention.
Despite his seemingly calm demeanor, the man’s comments included a warning that caused her to look away.
Kalix found himself smiling. Her feigned indifference only encouraged him to be more candid with her.
“By the way, are you ready for the interview?” he asked, reminding her of the reason she was with them.
Winter would have liked the interview, but seeing how she got one was funny.
“I never imagined you would be so determined to have me work with you that you actually created a vacancy for the job interview,” Winter said sarcastically, watching him as he reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
“You desired it to be subtle. So there you are. Go and clear your interview,” he said, looking directly into her eyes.
Winter found herself captivated by those emerald eyes. But his words made her ponder over her thoughts.
“And what if I get rejected?” she asked, keeping a hold of his as they suddenly darkened.
“Then I have to buy every company you ever go to for an interview.”
“….”
‘Is rooting for mass business?’ Sean couldn’t help but shoot a shocking look at Kalix.

“You know he’s capable of that,” Stanley remarked with a smirk.
“Which means he will compete with himself in the economic world,” Sean couldn’t help but respond with a tinge of annoyance in his tone.
“Are you really not going to do that?” Winter awoke from her stupor and protested.
She thought it would be easiest for her to withdraw from the interview without exerting any effort on Kalix’s behalf, but the man was already ahead of her.He explicitly threatened her to purchase every company she might consider interviewing with in the future.
Kalix, in contrast, smiled and directed his gaze forward. “Try me and I will let you know what I am capable of doing,” he said, leaving her completely taken aback by his self-assurance.
Kalix was honest about his struggle with rejections. Even now, if she chose to toy with the interview, there was truly no way for her to avoid working for him.
By the time they arrived, Winter had already resolved to approach the interview with a clear and focused mindset. She couldn’t risk failing, not because Kalix threatened to buy all the companies she would consider working with, but for her daughter and their betterment.
“All the best,” Kalix said, kissing her temple before stepping out of the car.
Winter paused for a moment, the warmth of his lips still lingering on her skin, yet she was wary of the two pairs of eyes fixed on her in disbelief.
Sean and Stanley exchanged a glance of horror before swiftly exiting, while Sean remained behind.
“Miss Winter, the waiting room is on the ninth floor,” he said, instructing her on a few details before walking away.
Winter braced herself and made her way to the ninth level of the building via the primary entrance.
Since they agreed to keep her identity a secret, Winter pretended to be one of the interviewees and joined the queue, waiting for her turn.

“What prompted you to change agencies, Agnes? Do you even realize how many brands you’ve lost because of your foolish decision?” Dorothy looked at her daughter, her eyes dark with disappointment.
She just couldn’t deal with her stubbornness at times and this recklessness when it came to her life.
“I understand what I’m doing, Mom. You don’t need to worry about it,” Agnes assured her in a tone that seemed indifferent, only serving to infuriate Dorothy even more.
Agnes observed that her mother suddenly became quiet, which piqued her curiosity.
“You seem to be troubled by something,” she inquired, tearing Dorothy back from her reverie. She shared an inquisitive look with her mother before she decided to speak up.
“You were right. We must figure out how to remove Winter from our lives.” Her words made Agnes’s eyes sparkle with malice.
Agnes smiled, aware that her mother now understood her concerns about Winter’s arrival.
Dorothy cast a sharp glare at her, the mocking tone igniting her anger. She swiftly averted her gaze and contemplated the notion of how they might eliminate Winter and her daughter.
Recalling the humiliation from the other day, Dorothy gritted her teeth and said, “That bitch brought up her daughter just like her, indecent and disobedient.”
She had always dominated Winter in their disagreements since she had her husband’s support. Although she was aware that she would suppress Winter’s rebellious tendencies with him, she ended up becoming more rude and unruly throughout the years.
Agnes’s eyes narrowed as she sensed something amiss in her mother’s thoughts.
“What do you plan to do, Mom?” she asked, locking eyes with Dorothy and watching her smirk.
