Chapter 37: Chapter 37: He came to meet Winter
“There is something that you need to know,” Winter said as soon as she stepped inside; however, the distant look from Kalix cautioned her.
“We’re in my office, Miss Winter. It is inappropriate to speak to your boss in that manner.” Kalix reclined comfortably in his chair, his eyes mischievously challenging her.
Winter hesitated, her thoughts echoing within her mind. Never did she expect to see him disconnecting with her like that. But isn’t that what she asked for—a professional relationship?
She took a deep breath, collected herself, and got back to her business.
“I’m sorry, I should have kept that in mind,” Winter apologized before continuing with the interview. However, she should still speak with him once they’ve finished everything.
Kalix, on the other hand, could perceive the disappointment in her look, yet she excelled at concealing it.
“So, Miss Winter, how do you feel after getting hired?” he asked, leaning forward with his hand resting on the table. He returned with that playful glint in his eyes that caused her lips to twitch in irritation.
‘He enjoys exploiting the circumstances,’ she seethed but swiftly concealed her feelings and nodded.
“I am truly grateful to have been chosen by your company. This opportunity holds significant value for me, and I am excited about the chance to apply my skills while advancing my personal and professional development.” Winter’s gaze pierced through him as she held her chin high throughout the encounter.
“And how would you like me to assist you in your personal growth?” Kalix’s lips curled up as she watched him slowly get up from his seat and approach her.
Her lips trembled when he gradually leaned in closer. His eyes roamed across her face before locking onto her astonished gaze.
“You can hardly resist my lips, and it would be a hassle to keep you away, as I desire the same.” Kalix’s words landed precisely, striking the exact moment.
Winter’s heart raced within her chest, and her eyes fluttered as they slowly fell to his lips.
“But more than that, I want your heart.” Winter looked up, and the sincerity in his gaze warmed her heart. For a moment, everything felt so light that she even forgot what she was here for.
“I am looking forward to seeing those walls break,” he added, almost nuzzling his face and inhaling a deep breath of her scent.
Winter found her resolve slowly crumbling down, but she continued to hold them tight.
“Congratulations, Angel. You were really helpful to me.” Winter’s brows furrowed slightly as she struggled to understand his words.
Kalix smirked at her bewildered expression and drew back. He subsequently reached out his hand for a handshake.
Winter looked down at those slender fingers; however, those veins proclaimed the masculinity of his touch, and she quickly extended her hand for a handshake.
She expected to get away with it, but Kalix surprised her and locked her lips for a soft kiss.
“You really don’t want me to ruin the world for you,” he murmured, pulling back. His gaze held on her perplexed expression before once more claiming her lips.
Winter released a soft moan as he deepened the kiss, and just when she thought it would last a while, he pulled away.
Kalix’s words held a certain fear for Winter, yet as she observed him smile at her, it felt as though everything began to dissolve.
By the time Winter walked out, she was completely dazed. She intended to have a conversation with him, but the man ultimately diverted her attention, leaving her a mess.
‘How will you endure his cheeky behavior?’ she pondered.
Winter got the position, but it was difficult to live under Kalix’s watchful gaze. He wasn’t someone who would let her work peacefully.
“Winter, there is nothing you cannot do. If Kalix tries to make his move, just dodge it,” Winter exclaimed, unaware that she would inevitably succumb to his charm.
As Winter exited the company, she was taken aback to see Hayes waiting for her. His presence sparked her concern, prompting her to approach him swiftly.
“Miss Win—” Just as Hayes was about to speak, Winter intervened. She surveyed the area and proposed a quiet place to converse.

They soon walked away; however, unbeknownst to them, someone was following Hayes. The moment he spotted him with Winter, the person swiftly made a call.
“He came to meet Winter at J&K International,” the man said, causing the person on the other end to furrow his brow.
Eric was taken by surprise. He was aware that he had a chance to discover where Winter and her daughter had moved out through Hayes. But now that he was outside of J&K International, he couldn’t help but wonder what had brought her there.
“Continue to track them and report everything back to me,” Eric directed before ending the call.
He then glided his fingers across the keyboard and came across the advertisement about the vacancy.
“Did she go there for an interview?” he muttered, perplexed. However, prior to reaching any conclusions, he chose to listen to his informant.
Eric continued to wait; however, his tranquil moment was disrupted when Agnes entered unexpectedly.
“Why haven’t you been answering my calls, Eric?” Her voice filled the room, breaking the silence, but then his gaze landed on the ankle brace, and the frown between his brows deepened.
“What happened to your leg?” he asked, quickly shifting his gaze back to her furious expression.
“At last, you come to understand what went wrong with me. I sprained my leg, Eric, and tried to reach out to you countless times, but you never once answered,” Agnes snapped, feeling neglected by the only man she adored obsessively.
Eric recalled purposely ignoring Agnes. He had been preoccupied with finding Winter’s location after discovering she had departed from the hotel. He simply couldn’t allow himself to become pretentious around her until he found where Winter and her daughter were.
“I see it’s not that bad. You just walked into my office without a hint of hesitation,” Eric remarked nonchalantly as he picked up a file to read.
Agnes had never experienced such a sense of neglect from Eric. He had suddenly started to distance himself, or should she say, after Winter returned to their lives, and she couldn’t help but feel infuriated.
“What were you doing that you couldn’t even take a moment to answer my calls?” Agnes inquired as she settled into the chair across from his desk.
Eric paused and glanced at her with a wary expression. Even with his neutral expressions, Agnes couldn’t overlook the skepticism reflected in his eyes.
“I was busy and I would appreciate it if you could lower your voice. I have a reputation to maintain,” Eric warned, once again disregarding her.
“Do not lie to me, Eric. I already confirmed you were in your office all day,” Agnes countered, causing him to halt his work once more. The look he directed at her this time was darker than ever.
“Are you keeping an eye on me, Agnes?” he said, making her stumble over her words.
She never intended to, but after Eric tried to act distant, she had to form some allies to get a hold of his schedule.
“I am not,” Agnes countered his assertion, yet it appeared to have little effect on him. “I was concerned about you, which is why I inquired with Assistant Flinn.”
Eric clenched his jaw, struggling to contain his displeasure. He felt an overwhelming urge to throw her out of the room, yet he managed to rein in his anger.
“Tell me, does that pain?” His voice suddenly softened, leaving Agnes surprised. She blinked several times before giving a nod.
“A little bit,” she said, and he promptly rose from his seat and approached her.He maintained his gaze on her as he knelt down to examine her ankle.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your calls. Your father keeps me busy with work, and I hardly get time to look at my phone or anything else.” Eric looked up and noticed her anger gradually fading away.
“Oh baby, I’m sorry too,” she said, holding his hand as they both stood up.
“I will talk to Dad and ask him to spare you some work,” she said, gently wrapping her arms around him.
Eric smiled as they hugged; however, his eyes soon glistened with malice and his smile slowly wavered.
“That’s so sweet of you.”
