Chapter 39: Chapter 39: We have already found a potential partner for him.
“Lolo…” Seren ran towards Sylvester as soon as she spotted him.
It’s been a long time since they last saw each other, or perhaps more accurately, their first encounter.
“Oh, my dear, dear Princess. How are you?” Sylvester asked, cradling the girl in his arms. Despite his advanced age, the man was strong enough to engage playfully with his great-grandchildren.
Winter paused at the staircase, her gaze absorbing the sight of the old man, whose unexpected visit left her with uncertainties. However, she chose not to reveal it and moved towards them.
Sylvester exchanged a brief glance with Winter as she settled into the seat on the couch across from them. It was unexpected to observe the woman composed and not enraged as she had been during their last encounter.
“Master, what would you prefer to drink: coffee, juice, or just water?” Butler James inquired politely.
“It’s okay, James. I’ll be quick with this visit, and I hope no word reaches Kalix,” the old man warned the butler, who quickly shared a concerned look with Winter.
She remained unbothered, having already perceived his intentions.
“As you wish, Master,” said Butler James, and he left them alone.
Sylvester engaged in a thoughtful conversation with Seren. The old man’s patience with her daughter was surprising, as he never once displayed any displeasure. His treatment of her, filled with the utmost care, made Winter recognize the gentle nature of the old man.
“Seren, how about you go ahead and continue your drawing? Lola wants to speak with your mother,” Sylvester said, and the little girl nodded.
She slid off his lap and remarked, “But you won’t go unless you see my art.”
Sylvester smiled and observed as Seren dashed up the stairs. Once she was gone, the smile on his face faded, soon replaced by the same somber look that bothered Winter.
She understood that it was primarily for her, and maybe she was aware of the reason behind it.
“Let’s get straight to the point, as I don’t want to waste either of our time,” Sylvester said, prompting Winter to squint her eyes slightly. Nevertheless, she remained patient, waiting for him to continue.
Slyvester retrieved a cheque and a document from his coat, setting them down in front of Winter.
“We wish to obtain custody of Seren without engaging in any legal disputes. The cheque is kept there; write down the number and let’s get away with it.
Winter glanced at the paper lying on the table, a sarcastic smirk playing on her lips.
“Are you attempting to buy me?” she inquired, her apathetic gaze fixed directly on Sylvester.
“Isn’t that what you want, to leech money from Kalix?” His words mocked her, pricking every nerve in her body.
Sylvester understood that Winter’s temperament was her greatest vulnerability, yet he persisted in provoking her.
“I understand that your family wishes to severe ties with you, and we also do not plan to welcome you. Let’s simplify things for everyone involved. Accept the money, hand over Seren to us, and enjoy a life of luxury.”
Winter regarded the man as he uttered the most venomous words she could ever anticipate. Didn’t he give her that impression when they first met? This confident man held himself in such high regard that he was indifferent to the potential offense his words might cause others.
“What happens if I choose not to? Will you stop bothering us?” Winter retorted, a frown appearing on his face.
“You have nothing to say, lady? The child is ours, so return her and leave.”
Sylvester was doing everything he could to persuade Winter, yet her steadfast determination left him feeling frustrated.
“Look, Kalix may feel responsible for you, but he will never take you as a wife. We have already found a potential partner for him, someone with whom he is betrothed.”
Sylvester’s words caused Winter to exercise a bit of caution. She was puzzled by the way the idea of Kalix being with someone else affected her emotions.
“I have already declined the alliance, Grandpa.” A deep voice echoed through the living hall, drawing their gaze toward Kalix.

His powerful, commanding presence overshadowed Sylvester’s authority, leaving his expression vacant in an instant.
Kalix approached them and halted in front of the table. His gaze remained fixed on the document and cheque.
“I believed I had already expressed that I would only marry the mother of my child. But you still come up with this cheap notion.” Kalix shifted his relaxed gaze toward Sylvester and remarked, “I thought you were better than this, grandpa.”
Sylvester’s lips twitched as he looked away in a fit of anger.
Kalix then turned to look at Winter, who seemed confused by his presence. However, before she could process the word he had just spoken, a gentle kiss on her forehead startled her back to reality.
“Don’t mind his words. He only becomes competent when things don’t go his way. You know old age is hitting him strong, Kalix said, attempting to soothe Winter with his calming voice.
On the other hand, Sylvester was surprised by this unexpected side of his grandson that they had never seen before. This wild creature was behaving like a pet in front of the woman, all docile and submissive.
Sylvester let out a scoff, unable to contain his disbelief.
“And you know that I will never accept her,” the old man declared, capturing Kalix’s attention, which shifted once more from gentle to ominous.
“Then cease appearing at my doorstep.” Kalix uttered his words clearly, shocking both Winter and the elderly man.
Sylvester had never experienced such humiliation before. The boy he raised rejected him by revealing his true nature.
He took a long, disdainful look at Winter before standing up to depart.
“I will not, regardless of what you say.” Sylvester turned around and left the house, rejecting Kalix’s previous statement.
Winter, still struggling to comprehend everything, shot a glare at Kalix and stood up to leave. As she approached the stairs, she remained oblivious to Kalix trailing behind her. As soon as she stepped into her room, Kalix unexpectedly followed her.
“You are not allowed to enter my room without my permission,” she objected right away.
Kalix gave her a perplexed look, his head tilting slightly with curiosity, before suddenly beginning to sniff, leaving Winter flabbergasted.
“I believe there might be something burning.”
Winter cast him a strange look as she observed him taking slow steps toward her, his expression thoughtful as he stood in front of her.
“Are you jealous, Angel?” he inquired, his shamelessness leaving Winter open-mouthed.
