Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Thank you
Inside the cell, Richard howled as Stanley plucked another one of his nails, leaving him bleeding profusely.
Ever since the man was moved into the cell, Stanley had been eager to demonstrate his new tools on him. The acknowledgment from Kalix to take charge of the man filled him with enthusiasm. However, as the torture continued, his excitement also heightened.
Disregarding his pleas, Stanley was on the verge of grasping his hand when the cell door swung open.
“Stanley, stop,” Kalix’s commanding voice halted him immediately.
Rising to his feet, Stanley brushed the blood from his clothes and studied Kalix’s icy stare. Not once did he show remorse for torturing the man until he bled. However, it did leave an impression of him being merciless to the person standing next to him.
Winter, standing behind Kalix, gazed incredulously at Stanley. For her, he looked no less than a grim reaper ready to peel the skin off the man he laid his eyes on.
‘Did she trust this man with her daughter?’ Her eyes nearly bulged as she observed Stanley bow to her with a faint smile, leaving her utterly dumbstruck.
Winter sensed a deception in the air, but then her gaze fell upon Richard, weeping on the floor, cradling his hands.
The sight of blood filled her with revulsion, and despite her efforts to maintain her composure, she found it impossible to do so.
“Can you just help him first?” she yelled, quickly walking out of the room, leaving both men shocked by her outburst.
It took her fifteen minutes to enter the cell again, and this time it appeared more inviting than the last.
“He is all yours,” she heard Kalix say, and without further ado, she drew up a chair and sat across from Richard.
The man trembled, his gaze locked on the bandage encircling his fingers. Not only was his face heavily bruised, but the painful torture also appeared to have traumatized him.
Despite being helped, he was still unable to comprehend, and the moment he looked up to see Winter, his brow furrowed.
As he continued to look into the girl’s eyes, a puzzle started to fit together.
“Oh, so you discovered it was me,” Richard’s demeanor shifted as he gazed at Winter with delight. The smile on his face was malicious, but his eyes showed restlessness.
“Are you together?” he asked, glancing at Kalix, but the moment he caught the flicker in his gaze, he swiftly averted his eyes back at Winter.
“That doesn’t concern you, Richard.”
Richard chuckled, showing his hand, and said, “You still think I will believe you? Definitely not.
“What if we are?” Winter words wiped the smile from his face, leaving him in surprise. His heart suddenly began to pound inside his chest, realizing how deeply her words had shattered his facade.
“And you understand the consequences that await you if you persist in pretending to tell the truth,” she added.
Winter may seem serene, but she knew that her words had actually kept him at bay. Despite his pretense, the man was now making an effort to articulate her words.
Richard had already witnessed the torture he faced ever since he was brought here, and now her words fell like salt on his wounds, causing him to reflect deeply on what she had said. He simply couldn’t ignore them, aware that the man before him was the embodiment of evil.
Winter smirked at Richard, observing him gradually curl into a ball, attempting to shield himself from their intense gaze.
“Now, be good and answer my question,” she urged unequivocally as she started questioning the man.

At Greyson International, David attempted to contact Richard, but his number was unavailable. He found himself wondering why he couldn’t reach him, but eventually dismissed the thought, believing it was for the best that the man was out of sight.
Leaning on his chair, David reflected on his plan to trick Richard into believing that it was his father who had destroyed him, while in fact it was he who had duped the latter.
He never allowed his name to be associated with the money laundering scandal when it came to light. It was solely his father who discovered him after delving deeper into the sources that guided him to the truth. He not only jeopardized his position but also cautioned him to cease his reckless behavior.

“You see, Dad, there is nothing that I can’t do. Not only did I instill Richard’s hatred toward you, but tomorrow I will also seize all the power you possess,” David’s lips curled into a sinister smile.
“And even now, if you woke, there is nothing you could do to threaten me.” His eyes darkened as he contemplated their relationship, which had ultimately planted a seed of hatred for his own father.

Kalix glanced at Winter as they were now driving back home. Following the confrontation with Richard, she became remarkably quiet, to the extent that her silence began to unsettle him.
He was curious about her thoughts and wondered if there was a way to ease her suffering. Yet, despite his deep yearning for her to say something, she merely averted her gaze.
Winter, on the other hand, felt a sense of numbness upon discovering that her father was the one who had incited Richard’s fury against Byron to such an extent that it led to a decision to kill him. And for what purpose? To seize control of the company.
Her eyes started to sting as tears welled up, yet she would not allow herself to cry. She always believed her father was a cold man, but she never anticipated he would be cruel enough to scheme against his own father.
Despite her emotions threatening to overwhelm her, she soon realized that the car had taken another route, and before long, they reached the lakeside. A location distant from the city, enveloped in complete tranquility, soothed her nerves, prompting her to swiftly exit the car and stroll toward the edge.
Winter was not one to reveal her suffering. She grew up burying them deep in her heart, and no matter how badly it bled, she would always swallow the pain by masking her feelings.
Her rebellious demeanor served as a shield, preventing others from taking advantage of her. It not only provided her with the strength to fight for herself, but it also helped her grow into the woman she was now.
With her arms crossed, Winter stood by the lake, absorbing the serene water that gradually calmed her nerves. She already knew the answer, but seeking confirmation from the man she doubted felt like a stab, and no matter what, she just couldn’t shake the realization that her father had turned out to be such a cruel man.
Standing there, she slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out her phone to make a quick call to Hayes. As she finished providing the update, she sensed a presence beside her.
Winter was uncertain about how to convey her appreciation. Without Kalix, they would not have been able to secure Richard. However, she needed to express her gratitude.
“Thank you,” she said, clutching her phone tightly against her chest.
Winter dared not look at him because she knew that just a glance would cause everything to crumble at her feet.
“Hindi ganito ang pagpapasalamat mo, Angel.”
Winter furrowed, unable to grasp his words, and the moment she turned, Kalix slid his arm around her waist, drawing her closer and quickly capturing her lips in a soothing kiss.
