Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Was she really not affected by him?
Winter leaned against his muscular chest as he slid his tongue into her cavern, relishing each corner of her mouth. Not only did her body calm, but so did her mind.
The chaotic thoughts gradually settled as she found herself breathless when he withdrew.
Kalix’s gaze rested on her flustered cheek as he gently traced her face before leaning in for another kiss.
Winter had just begun to settle in, yet she found herself consuming him with the same fervor that ignited warmth within her body.
She was completely unaware of how a simple kiss could soothe her anxiety, and as they lingered in the moment, her desire for him only intensified.
All these years, Winter believed she was capable of controlling her desire, but with Kalix, everything felt so far away. A single glance from him would cause her to reconsider her thoughts and with just a kiss, she could feel a rush of emotions gushing into her.
‘Was she really not affected by him?’ she pondered. Even with the answer clearly before her, she chose to reject it.
‘It might just be infatuation,’ she attempted to rationalize her emotions.
As time passed, Winter once again found herself losing her breath, and this time when they stopped, she noticed a glint of desire lurking in his eyes.
“Let’s go,” Kalix said, brushing his thumb against her swollen lips.
Winter hadn’t anticipated their halt, yet she also didn’t desire to press on, aware of the direction it was taking.
With a gentle grip on her hand, Kalix led her back to their car before they drove away.

When they arrived home, Kalix was about to enter his room, but Winter intervened.
She hesitated, contemplating whether he needed to know any of it, but since he was the one leading them, she simply couldn’t bring herself to hide anything.
“Today I met Hayes, and he noticed someone watching over us.” As soon as she uttered those words, Kalix’s expression darkened.
Winter was doubtful about what he was thinking, but the expression itself overshadowed her concerns.
“I believe it could be a spy that David possibly dispatched to monitor Hayes.” Winter attempted to make sense of the words Hayes had shared with her earlier.
“And what if it’s you?” he asked, peering deeply into her eyes, causing her to hesitate.
Winter felt as though no one would care about her, but then she remembered her transgression toward her father, and her eyes widened in sudden understanding.
“Hayes attempted to pursue that man, but he vanished before he could apprehend him,” Winter added, causing Kalix to wonder about the person.
David may have hired someone to monitor them, but Kalix was unable to fully accept it.
“Don’t worry, I will have Sean look into the matter,” Kalix assured Winter before they parted to their respective rooms.

Inside the car
“Wow, that’s brave of her to stand in the presence of blood; I would’ve puked.” Sean scrunched his nose in disgust, leading Stanley to roll his eyes at him.
“You do understand how pretentious you appear at this moment, don’t you? If I don’t speak up, everyone will readily accept your version.”
“Did you forget the first time I saw blood squirting out from your target? I nearly fainted,” Sean said, gaping at Stanley. “You can be quite ruthless at times, Stanley.”
“Whatever,” he shrugged and kept the car going.

Sean remembered the initial encounter he had with Stanley. At seventeen, he was filled with rebellion and driven by anger. The bruises on his face, received during a fight with a gang, nearly brought him to the brink of death. Yet, even while battered and bruised, he still felt like a ferocious creature poised to strike at his foe.
Sean leaned back, shaking his head in dismay, his eyes fixed on the window when suddenly something caught his attention.
“Hey, isn’t that Lilac?” Sean’s voice caught Stanley’s attention, prompting him to quickly slow the car and park it in front of the same cafe the couple just entered.
They were there to complete the task Kalix had given them, but they unexpectedly ran into a familiar face there.
“The couple looks so much in love,” Sean couldn’t help but express, sneaking a glance at Stanley’s blank face.
“Come on, let’s go and meet them,” he suggested, quickly getting out of the car. Stanley’s expression remained grim as he silently followed him into the shop.
“Lilac!” Sean called, acquiring the couple’s attention.
“Sean, what a pleasant surprise!” Lilac cast him a bewildered look, but then her eyes fell upon Stanley trailing behind him.
He wore an expression of indifference, yet his eyes betrayed a flicker of interest as they met Damien’s gaze.
Lilac smiled warmly and introduced them to Damien.
“Hello Mr. Smith. It’s wonderful to meet you,” Sean said, shaking hands with Damien before the two joined them.
Silence enveloped the table as everyone remained quiet, and it was then that Lilac turned to Sean and said, “Let’s go and place our orders.”
“I’ll be right back,” she said, gently pressing her hand on Damien’s. Her smile caused everyone to cringe.
Sean nodded in agreement and walked away with Lilac, leaving Damien by himself with Stanley.
Now that they were all alone, Stanley couldn’t resist asking, “Do you like her?” His voice is void of emotion.
Damien was taken aback by the unexpected question, yet he soon perceived the serious demeanor of the man and smiled while nodding, “I do, but I am planning to take things slow.”
Stanley nodded in understanding at the unexpected revelation, his eyes shifting to Sean and Lilac, who swiftly averted their gaze and feigned conversation with the staff.
“Good luck,” Stanley smirked, staring back at Damien, who couldn’t help but frown.
Away from the table, leaning closer, Lilac slowly whispered, “What do you think they are talking about? Please don’t say he has already caught us.”
Sean gazed at her, his expression tinged with frustration.”I never mentioned to him that we had agreed to meet here. So relax; he won’t find anything,” he assured.
Sean had originally intended to bring Stanley to the cafe at Lilac’s request. It was later that Kalix instructed him about the task, and he finally understood the reason for tagging him along.
Slowly turning their heads, the duo attempted to peek once more at the two men who merely glared at each other with their piercing eyes.
