Chapter 43: Chapter 43:The way you say my name is enticing

Stanley stared at the couple through the car’s window, his lips twitching at the sight of their smiling faces. He couldn’t suppress a sneer at the idea of Sean abandoning him at this moment, asking him to take Lilac home now that Damien had to leave for some work.

“You sly mice, how could you betray me like that?” Stanley muttered under his breath, his gaze darting away in annoyance.

Soon, Lilac joined him and turned to fasten her seatbelt. “I apologize for bothering you, but you know Damien wouldn’t leave me if it weren’t urgent,” she said, smiling at Stanley, who continued to ignore her.

Her smile wavered at his silence, and before long, he started the car, taking them away from the cafe.

“So, what are your thoughts on Damien?” Lilac said, breaking the overbearing silence inside the car.

Lilac stared at Stanley, who appeared unfazed, yet she observed his fingers clenching the steering wheel firmly.

“I understand this may not be your concern, but I would really appreciate your thoughts on whether you think he is suitable for me,” she inquired, pressing over the topic.

Stanley was not one to express his thoughts openly, yet the idea of Lilac being with Damien bothered him. Her previous admiration for him caught his attention.

“Good,” his response caught her off guard.

Lilac intentionally nagged Stanley to extract his thoughts, yet this man appeared completely unmoved.

“And what were you two talking about earlier?” she asked, her tone now slightly sullen.

Lilac struggled to conceal her emotions, and Stanley had come to realize what she was attempting to convey.

“Are you genuinely curious about our conversation?” he inquired, a mischievous glint dancing in his eyes. He wondered if she was trying to pretend that she did know when all along she had her eyes on them.

Lilac squinted her eyes and nodded. “Yes. I want to know what you two talked about,” she said, and Stanley pulled his car over to the side of the road, surprising her.

Unbuckling the seatbelt, he bored into her eyes and spoke, “I warned him that he’d break his bones if he ever laid his eyes on you.”

Lilac gaped at these threatening words, but soon her eyes turned into seething with anger.

“How dare you talk to him like that?” Lilac snapped, clearly showing her discontent with his tone.

Stanley leaned back in his seat, his eyes intently fixed on her. Nevertheless, this lip persisted in smirking.

“Who are you trying to deceive, Lilac?” he inquired, surprising her. It was unexpected, but the way his smile disappeared, replaced by aloofness, shook her confidence.

“I am not deceiving anyone. I am serious this time,” Lilac insisted, brushing aside his assertion, but his actions soon took her by surprise.

Unbuckling the seatbelt, Stanley wrapped his arms around her waist and swiftly lifted her to sit on his lap. His eyes mischievously peered at her surprised ones, and before she could retreat, his face nestled into the curve of her neck.

“Then prove it to me, Lilac.” Stanley’s alluring tone left Lilac trembling. She gradually closed her eyes and leaned into his touch, feeling his warm breath brush against her neck, though he remained just shy of kissing her.

There wasn’t a single day when Lilac didn’t dream of them being this close. Her emotions for Stanley grew gradually. Even with his lack of awareness, she persisted in her affections, wishing that one day he would reciprocate her feelings.

“Stanley,” her voice trembled as he suddenly kissed her. The warmth of his lips sent a shiver down her spine, causing her to tighten her grip on his shoulder.

Lilac’s mind drifted into a haze, and she bit her lips in an effort to suppress her moan.

She was completely unaware that Stanley’s kiss would ignite a feeling within her that she had never experienced before. Nevertheless, she had always longed for it, but solely from him.

“Did you hear that, Lilac? The way you say my name is enticing, yet you still believe you are being serious?” Stanley suddenly halted and leaned back, locking his gaze directly onto hers.

Lilac observed as the corner of his lips curled into a teasing smile, revealing the trick he had just played on her.

“You… how could you possibly do that!” Lilac shoved him and swiftly made her way back to her seat.She watched him smile with a serious look in her eyes.

“You think it’s funny, Stanley?” she remarked, her voice laced with anger.

“You really bring out the humor, Lilac. Are you truly aware of what you’re attempting? You’re misleading not just your grandpa, but yourself as well.”

“And why do you care when you already rejected me?” She snapped, unable to contain her anger.

Stanley’s smile disappeared as he observed the redness in her eyes.”I have my reasons, Lilac,” he said through clenched teeth.

Lilac scoffed, feeling foolish in his presence. What was she even expecting from him when he had already denied everything?

A tear rolled down her cheek, but she swiftly brushed it away.

“You believe I am a fool, don’t you? Now let’s see how this fool makes you get down on your knees, Stanley,” she said, her eyes fixed on him with unwavering resolve.

“Do you really believe I can’t move on from you?” She questioned, her voice laced with defiance, causing his gaze to deepen with intensity.

“But now you will see me marrying Damien,” she stated clearly and emphatically.

Words had never posed a threat to Stanley in the past, yet as he looked at Lilac, he sensed his heart tighten. Fear began to seep in, a feeling he could not comprehend.

“You declared that there would be nothing between us, so that is how it shall be. However, I will now make an effort to find happiness with the man who genuinely understands me.”

“You are acting impulsively, Lilac. You do not love him.” Stanley countered.

“Then you will watch me love him.” Her words penetrated his heart like a thousand nails, piercing it with each breath he inhaled.

He understood that Lilac would go to extreme lengths to prove herself to him, but was he truly prepared to witness it? Will he be able to see her with another man?

The questioned raised, however he had no answer to it.
