Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Otherwise, he might end up losing his hand this time
The following morning, David gathered with the other board members in the conference hall. The quiet glimmer of anticipated victory in his eyes remained unwavering.
He was aware that he held all the power, and he was eager to be recognized as the new chairperson of the company. A dream he always dreamt of and today he was finally going to walk the path of ruling the company all by himself.
As everyone took their seats, Finn approached the podium and graciously acknowledged the audience.
“Good morning, esteemed board members…” Finn commenced with the opening speech. His voice is modest with utmost respect.
“Today signifies an important occasion as we unite to choose a leader who will steer us ahead with foresight, honesty, and dedication. I encourage each of you to participate thoughtfully, upholding the values and mission that bind us together. Let us move forward with the voting process without any further delay.” Finn stepped down and requested that each board member cast their votes.
Eric, present alongside the rest of the staff, glanced at David from the side. He recognized that the man was merely presenting a facade, despite already possessing everything he needed. With the support of the board members, there was nothing anyone could do to prevent him from becoming the new chairperson. Yet, there was a certain nuance to this meeting that caused him to disregard the entire voting process.
The transformation of the calm person into a cautious one was unexpected, prompting a furrow to form on Eric’s brow. However, he merely ignored it and waited for the announcement, hoping to escape this oppressive environment.
“Thank you all for being here today as we gather to elect our new chairman. Following a fair and transparent voting process, I am happy to share the outcome.” Finn’s voice broke his trance and he darted his eyes back at the front.
With three candidates vying for the position, Finn quickly arrived at a decision.
“Mr. David Greyson has been elected as our new chairperson, receiving the highest number of votes. Congratulations!” Finn directed his delightful gaze towards David as applause filled the conference room, celebrating his victory.
The day David had anticipated for all his life had finally arrived, and as he gradually approached the podium, the mysterious expression on his face ended up capturing Eric’s attention.
His eyes flickered as he observed something peculiar in David’s demeanor. The proud look in his eyes was now replaced with caution. A glint of restlessness crossed his eyes as he gazed ahead at the crowd.
Eric was uncertain if his perceptions were accurate, but based on his understanding of David, he considered him a conceited person who rarely revealed his vulnerabilities. However, the moment he opened his mouth, his words left everyone surprised.
“I apologized, but it seems I am not qualified for the position,” David said, bowing before everyone, his expression attempting to hide a rage that only Eric could perceive. However, before anyone could pose a question, he abruptly left the conference, leaving everyone in complete shock.

Finn eagerly followed his boss, but the moment he heard the sound of destruction inside the office, his feet came to a sudden halt.
Even the employees were shocked to witness such a horrendous sight. A man who had always presented himself as noble and kind was suddenly behaving in a way that was uncharacteristic of him.
Finn, feeling a surge of uncertainty, swiftly closed the door and remained outside, contemplating his next step.
Meanwhile, inside, David had completely lost his cool and ended up ruining the entire room. Even after discarding everything, the anger appeared to persist.
Only Winter’s words echoed in his mind, the warning she had imparted before departing from his office that day.
“You dare to challenge me, Winter, your own father?” His bloodshot eyes pierced through the glass window, radiating his deepest disdain for the woman who dared to threaten him.
David was just a step closer to achieving his goal. He believed he had everything managed, yet his single oversight left him with nothing but emptiness. He sought to strip everything from his father, yet now he found himself bound to the threat his daughter had chosen to impose upon him.
“No, I will not allow her to triumph. She believes she can challenge me, her father! However, you are mistaken!… You are mistaken, Winter.” David’s words were laced with malice as his thoughts spiraled into a cunning scheme to remove every obstacle in his way.
“Do you believe that merely sharing blood will lead me to show you mercy? Just wait and see, Winter; I will show you what the real deal is. You dare to defy me.”
David clenched his jaw, his thoughts consumed by the message he received from Winter, accompanied by a video of Richard revealing all of his deceit.
She suggested that he take a step back to protect his reputation, which was at stake.
“I won’t let this slide so easily,” David sneered, pulling a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it inside his office.

Suddenly, the atmosphere at the breakfast table shifted as Kalix observed the girl across from him, engrossed in her phone and smiling.

Fortunately, his daughter was not present; otherwise, she would have found it unsettling to see him gaze at her mother with such an intense stare.
“What’s in that phone of yours that has you smiling so much?” He finally broke the silence and posed the question.
Winter’s smile faded, and the moment she glanced at his somber expression, a wave of realization washed over her. Without acknowledging his reaction, she merely turned the screen in his direction.
“We won,” she said proudly, her content smile stretching broadly across her face once again.
Kalix had no idea what Winter intended, but after watching the video, he understood just how cunning she could be when it came to safeguarding her people.
“I warned him, but he decided to challenge me.” Winter withdrew the phone and set it down on the table.
“Now he would think twice before planning his next move,” Winter muttered with an indifferent tone. She understood that her threat could have enraged David to the point where he might now consider harming her, but that was the least of her concerns.
He was a person whose existence now hinged on her, and a single misstep on his part could lead to the destruction of his entire life.
Kalix’s eyes sparkled with pride as he peered at the girl before him. He was consumed by an overwhelming desire to seize her by the neck and drive her to the verge of madness. She had this fire within her that he wanted to light himself into, but he also didn’t want them to burn in it.
“I hope it won’t be a slap; otherwise, he might end up losing his hand this time.” Kalix’s words seized Winter’s attention, leaving her furrowing her brow in confusion.
“Excuse me?” She murmured, casting him a perplexed glance. His warning carried an unsettling weight that lingered within her.
Kalix tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with playfulness, making Winter feel a knot in her stomach. “I don’t like anyone touching even a strand of your hair, so he must think twice before raising his hand on you next time.”
Winter experienced a whirlwind of sensations as he claimed her, meticulously leaving no detail overlooked. It suddenly dawned on her when her father had slapped her and how Kalix had become fiercely protective at the mere sight of it on her face.
“Did you do anything to him?” Winter inquired with a hint of doubt. She understood that Kalix was not the type to show mercy to anyone who traversed him. And now he made it clear she wondered if he really did something to her father.
“Are you concerned about your father now?” Kalix asked, his eyes piercing into hers.
Winter stared at the intensity of his brooding eyes. Even with the crooked smile lingering on his lips, she still couldn’t manage to calm herself.
A deep instinct within her shouted that something was unfolding behind her back, yet she remained completely unaware of it all.
“I-I am simply curious,” she said, quickly averting her gaze.
Winter simply couldn’t look at him. His eyes were merely misleading her into something she was not truly keen to discover. Yet, aware of his watchful gaze, she couldn’t help but wonder if he was the one responsible for David’s past misery.
She attempted to voice her concerns but was interrupted when Sern approached them in her school uniform.
“I am ready!” she squealed, standing before her parents and eyeing them enthusiastically.
Ever since Seren learned about her new school, she eagerly anticipated exploring the place and making new friends.
Winter gazed at her daughter. Her doe-like eyes eagerly awaited the conclusion of their activities, and without wasting another moment, the trio departed the house, making their way to Seren’s school, Daisy Dream School.
