Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Fight for your man
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Kalix stepped in. His presence filled the room, his sharp gaze scanning the scene before landing on Dianna. “What’s going on here?” His words held a tinge of frustration as his eyes seethed with anger. He didn’t need to ask more; his stare already demanded an explanation.
Dianna, sensing an opportunity to manipulate the situation, quickly straightened herself, using the moment to slander Winter in front of him.
“Kalix, she pushed me,” Dianna said, lifting herself from the ground in an exaggerated manner. She placed a hand on the table for support, deliberately making it seem like she was struggling to stand.
Winter rolled her eyes. A sarcastic chuckle escaped her lips. She had tried to maintain composure, to be understanding, to avoid being seen as weak or petty. But Dianna’s dramatics were enough to make her look like a fool.
“Miss Dianna, you still haven’t cleared the doubts,” Sean, who had remained quiet until now, spoke up, his voice cutting through the tension. “Miss Winter asked you something earlier.”
Sean’s voice was calm but firm, a sharp contrast to the mounting tension. Though he was well aware Dianna was attempting to frame Winter, he felt it was only fair to give her a chance to come clean.
Dianna shot a venomous look at Sean, an invisible fury creeping into her eyes. “You think I’m lying, Sean?” she asked, her voice deceptively calm but laced with simmering anger. Her teeth were clenched, barely contained.
Kalix looked from Winter, who stood unaffected, to Dianna, whose increasingly erratic behavior was starting to irritate him. He hadn’t seen her make a move like this before, and it piqued his interest. Something about this situation felt off.
Dianna, noticing the slight flicker of doubt in Kalix’s gaze, pressed on, trying to salvage the situation. “Kalix, I’m not lying. She did push me,” she said, her voice shaking with feigned distress, her eyes desperately trying to hold his attention.
“If so, then prove it.” Kalix’s voice was icy, and the words cut through the room, sending an unsettling silence over everyone.
“Prove?” Dianna stammered, her face draining of color. Kalix stood next to Winter now, his body language completely unreadable, his arms crossed. The weight of his presence made it clear that he was not going to let this go.
“You do realize we have cameras installed here, right?” Kalix’s tone was calm, but there was an undeniable edge to it. “Do you want us to check the footage?”
Dianna’s heart raced. Fuck. How did I forget that? Panic began to flood her chest, but she couldn’t show it. Her mind raced for a way out, but Kalix had already cornered her, and there was no escaping this.
She had hoped to gain his sympathy, to have him turn against Winter. She never anticipated that he would quickly turn against her. Now, all she could do was backpedal.
“T-there’s no need for it,” she stammered, her face pale, her attempt at composure unraveling. “I-I forgive Winter for what she did to me.”
Winter’s expression was one of disbelief. She could hardly believe the words coming out of Dianna’s mouth, but she wasn’t about to let this slide. “I never asked for your forgiveness,” she shot back, her tone cool and unwavering. “I didn’t push you.”
Dianna’s lips twitched, her eyes narrowing into a glare. “I said let go,” she spat, her frustration bubbling over.
“I think we should check the footage,” Sean interjected, his calm suggestion only intensifying the pressure on Dianna.
“I said let go!” Dianna snapped, her voice cracking with emotion. Her attempt to regain control of the situation failed miserably.
Kalix didn’t waste a second and walked out of the room, followed by Winter and Sean.
As the door closed behind them, Dianna stood there, her mind reeling. The humiliation gnawed at her, and her heart burned with envy. Who is she? And why is Kalix being so nice to her?
Dianna’s mind raced as her gaze flicked to the door. She paced in a circle, trying to make sense of what just happened. Then, a sudden realization struck her. Don’t tell me she’s the same woman he has a daughter with.
Her entire world ceased to exist. Her pulse thundered in her ears, and a sickening feeling of betrayal washed over her. How had she missed it? Winter wasn’t just some random woman—she was the woman who had ties to Kalix in ways Dianna hadn’t even begun to comprehend.
Her thoughts spiraled as jealousy and frustration coiled inside her. Kalix’s eyes had softened when he looked at Winter, something that had never happened when Dianna was around. She had witnessed it with unwavering clarity. However, she wasn’t going to give up.
Kalix was meant to be hers, and she would ensure that Winter was removed from his life.

A heated dispute with Diana left Winter drained, she quickly excused herself to the restroom. Standing by the sink, she turned on the faucet and splashed water on her face. But before she could compose herself, the door flung open, and an infuriated Lilac stormed in.
Winter startled, eyeing the girl who came in like a whirlwind. Lilac’s voice rang out, sharp and accusatory. “Is it true that you pushed Diana and she sprained her leg?”
Lilac, who had just stepped out for lunch, had overheard the gossip spreading through the office. “Winter pushed Diana,” the words buzzed through the air like chewing gum, stretching with each retelling as the office speculated and exaggerated.

Winter sighed and returned to her task, wiping her face with a towel. “I wish I did. At least I’d have the satisfaction of hurting her for real.” A chuckle escaped her lips, causing Lilac to gasp dramatically.
“That would be fun! How about we do it together? I’ve always had this urge to push her off a cliff, but that might be a bit too brutal,” Lilac said, her voice light but filled with an undercurrent of mischief.
Winter couldn’t help but laugh. She’d enjoyed Lilac’s company since the day they first met. The girl wasn’t innocent, but she wasn’t bad either. Lilac spoke what she felt, something Winter appreciated in people.
Lilac strolled toward Winter and leaned against the counter, crossing her arms. “Diana sees you as a rival. I’m sure my brother’s interest in you made her take such a drastic step.”
“Rival?” Winter repeated, her brow furrowing in confusion. “But she hardly knows me, apart from the fact that she recognizes me as the daughter of the Greyson family.”
“And, more importantly, I can see she has a thing for Kalix.” Winter paused, the look in her eyes that appeared every time she spoke with Kalix.
“Yes, she does. But you can’t let her win,” Lilac warned. “I couldn’t see her as my sister-in-law before, and I certainly can’t now.”
“Sister-in-law?” Winter asked, her heart racing.
Lilac nodded, her expression serious. “Yes. She’s the one who wants to marry my brother. Even Grandpa approves of it.”
The words struck Winter sharply, piercing her heart with an unexpected pain. “Oh,” she whispered, falling deep into thought.
“Then you should talk about her like that,” Winter muttered.
Lilac noticed the tinge of sadness in tone and quickly replied.
“I can’t stand the sight of her pretending to be the perfect daughter in front of Grandpa. She is not who she claims to be, you do understand that.
Winter looked thoughtfully at Lilac and nodded. She had already witnessed the deviousness she encountered with Dianna a few minutes prior.
“So you shouldn’t let her take your spot. “Fight for your man,” Lilac cheered, exchanging a look of determination with Winter.
‘Your Man?’
Since when did Kalix become her man?
