Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Consider this a revenge
Dianna paced her office, her heels clicking against the floor as her mind replayed the humiliation she had suffered before Kalix.
And the reason for it all was none other than Winter.
She had no idea the woman she had approved to work at J&K International was the same woman who had Kalix going insane.
Dianna’s hands clenched into fists. “I won’t let her take Kalix away from me,” she hissed, grabbing her phone with shaking fingers.
The moment her sister answered, she snapped, “Rita, I need your help.”
There was a pause on the other end before Rita spoke, her voice cautious. “Dianna? What’s wrong? You sound—”
“Nothing is right, Rita! I feel like I’m losing my mind!” Dianna’s voice broke, her bloodshot eyes brimming with unshed tears.
Rita’s concern deepened. “Dianna, calm down. What happened? Please, don’t act reckless. Have you taken your medication?”
Dianna let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head despite knowing Rita couldn’t see her. “Nothing is working for me right now, Rita. And trust me, if you don’t help me come up with a plan, I’ll end up killing her myself.”
Rita sucked in a sharp breath. “Dianna, w-who are you talking about?”
“Winter,” Dianna spat, her whole body pulsing with rage. Just saying the name felt like acid on her tongue.
“Winter?” Rita echoed in confusion.
“Yes, Winter Greyson—the woman Kalix wants to marry,” she announced, her voice dripping with venom.
A heavy silence stretched between them before Rita finally spoke. “Meet me,” she said firmly before ending the call.
Dianna didn’t waste another second. Snatching her bag from the desk, she stormed out of the office, her mind racing with revenge.

Across town, at an upscale restaurant, Lilac was thoroughly enjoying herself.
Kalix, however, was not.
With an amused smile, Lilac popped a bite of food into her mouth and glanced up. “Are you planning to eat me, Brother? If not, I suggest savoring your meal before it gets cold.”
Winter nearly choked on her food. She reached for her glass, coughing as she took a quick sip.
Kalix exhaled through his nose, his irritation palpable. “I figured it was better to keep you occupied here rather than let you sneak into my car again,” he said flatly.
Lilac smirked, tapping her fork against the plate. “Consider this revenge for monitoring me all the time.” She shot him a playful wink before resuming her meal.
Kalix clenched his jaw. This was supposed to be his lunch with Winter—his alone time with her. But no. His sister had clung to Winter like a damn shadow, making herself a third wheel without an ounce of shame.
And worst of all?
Winter seemed to like her company.
Kalix stabbed his fork into his plate a little too forcefully. This was not how he wanted today to go.
Kalix’s plan of spending some time with Winter was ruined, and what was worse was that she wasn’t even sparing him a glance.
After lunch, they left the restaurant. Lilac was the first to head out as she had something to look up, while Winter and Kalix reached the car with silence still hanging between them.
“I am planning on visiting the hospital this evening along with Seren, so there is no need for you to come with us,” Winter said, her voice cool and distant.

Kalix looked at Winter, who was clearly trying to build a bridge between them. Even her words felt like needles pricking his heart.
As soon as they got into the car, Kalix quickly reached out, pinching her chin and making her look at him.
“Are you upset with me?” he asked, peering deep into her eyes. Though they appeared calm, he couldn’t shake off the uneasiness in his heart that came along with her bitter words.
“Why would I be?” she said, trying to look away, but he stopped her.
“Don’t!” he warned, this time cupping her face.
Winter looked at him, startled by his calm yet commanding tone. She had no idea why she had been feeling this way, but she realized she just couldn’t allow herself to get closer to him, knowing he already had someone his family had chosen for him.
Kalix tried to intimidate her, but her silence made it hard for him to continue.
“Tell me what’s bothering you. Is it Dianna’s behavior from earlier that upset you, or did I do something wrong?” Kalix wanted to be clear in communicating with Winter. He hadn’t been this particular before, but for her, he tried to change.
Winter gazed at him, a storm of doubt swirling in her eyes. She had no answer to his question because she herself was confused about the reason behind her silence.
She had suppressed her emotions from surfacing. She had mastered the art of handling her feelings without letting anyone know the slightest of them. Yet when Kalix asked her what was bothering her, for a second, she found her resolve shaking.
‘What does he want to hear? That I am upset over the idea of him and Dianna being together?’
Winter’s lips tightened, her heart faltering as she attempted to gaze at him. There was something magnetic about Kalix that kept her firm on her feet, and she feared that this pull would make her life drift back into the same cycle she wished to avoid.
Kalix waited for her to speak, but their silence was interrupted by a sudden phone call.
Winter instantly pulled back, causing Kalix to furrow his brows. He slowly reached for his phone in his pocket before answering it.
“Yes, Sean,” Kalix said, keeping his eyes on Winter while he listened to his subordinate.
“I am on my way,” he said before ending the call.
Winter noticed the shift in his demeanor, but she refused to voice it out as he quickly started the car and drove them back to the company.

Winter returned to her desk, her thoughts once again stuck on Kalix’s change in aura. There was something bothering him; she could sense it.
‘It’s not your concern, Winter. Remember, he has lots of things to deal with,’ her subconscious mind reminded her to stay out of his personal life.
“Hey,” a sudden voice startled her, and she turned to look at Mia.
‘Ah, how did I forget about her?’
Mia exuded the curiosity of a child eager to learn everything. She was basically like a search engine that could provide answers to any question regarding the company.
Winter smiled awkwardly. She had a feeling that Mia was indeed curious to know what had actually happened inside Dianna’s office. However, she was too tired to recall it and just wanted to finish her work and leave.
“Actually, we were planning a dinner this evening with some of our employees. Do you want to join?” Mia asked, smiling cheekily.
Winter paused for a second before declining. “I don’t think it’s possible. I have some prior business to attend to,” she said politely, causing Mia to retreat, allowing Winter to resume her work.
