Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Take this as your first and last warning
The bullet struck the floor, just inches from the man’s leg. He jerked, terror flashing in his bloodshot eyes as he scrambled back.
“I’ll tell everything!” he screamed, his voice cracking with fear.
Every eye in the room bore into him as he frantically searched for an escape.
Then, with a shaking hand, he pointed—straight at Rita.
“It’s her!” he blurted out. “She paid me to do it!”
Gasps rippled through the room.
Rita’s heart plummeted, her throat tightening as every gaze turned to her.
“H-He’s lying!” she snapped, her voice shrill as she fumbled for control. “You threatened him, Kalix, and now he’s saying whatever you want to hear!”
She squared her shoulders, her expression twisting into indignation.
“I won’t let you degrade me like this,” she hissed, defiance flaring in her eyes.
“Kalix, this is enough!” Slyvester’s voice boomed through the room, his tone hard, commanding. “You cannot accuse Rita based on this man’s words alone! What if he’s lying just to escape your wrath?”
Kalix laughed, low and sharp, the sound dripping with sarcasm.
“Oh, Grandfather,” he mused, shaking his head. “Still so naïve.”
His gaze turned back to the quivering man on the floor, his posture deceptively relaxed as he leaned back in his chair.
“Alright,” Kalix said smoothly. “Let’s take threats out of the equation, shall we?”
His eyes darkened.
“Call the number that hired you,” he ordered.
The man snatched his phone from his pocket with trembling hands, his fingers fumbling over the screen before he dialed.
A single ring echoed through the heavy silence.
Then—a phone vibrated.
Everyone turned their heads towards the table.
The phone was resting right next to Rita’s hand.
She froze. The color drained from her face as the ringing continued, its sound exposing her louder than any accusation ever could.
Kalix’s smirk deepened.”Busted, are we, sister-in-law?”
Rita looked more than distraught, her lips parting soundlessly as she struggled to form an argument.
Her mind raced, scrambling for an escape.
“Is he telling the truth, Rita?” This time, it was Roger who spoke.
His voice was low, seething with restrained fury. His eyes bored into his wife, demanding an answer.
Rita shook her head, still clinging to her lies. But before she could speak, a loud slap echoed through the hall.

Pak!
The force of it sent the man crashing onto his face.
“How dare you try to harm my daughter?” Winter’s fierce voice reverberated through the air, raw and shaking with rage.
Silence fell and everyone turned, stunned by her sudden outburst.
Without hesitation, she kicked him hard in the stomach.
“Ah!” he choked, blood splattering from his lips as he writhed on the floor.
Winter had lost it.The moment the truth came out, something inside her snapped.
But it was Rita’s defiance that kept her teetering on the edge—until she finally broke.
Kalix, who had been silently watching, felt his lips twitch.
There was something almost satisfying in seeing Winter’s rage unfold.
But his own fury was far from satiated.
His hand moved with deadly ease, pulling out his gun once more.
He aimed it straight at Rita.”Are you ready for your punishment, sister-in-law?”
Rita’s eyes widened in terror.
“You can’t do this to me, Kalix!” she shrieked, shaking her head violently. “This man is lying!”
Bang!
Rita flinched. Her entire body went rigid as the gunshot rang through the hall.
A breath later, the man who had been groveling on the floor fell limp.Dead.
The air turned heavy, thick with tension.
Winter’s blood ran cold. She looked at Kalix, her eyes wide, her breath shallow. But he didn’t even blink.
He simply turned his gaze back to Rita, his tone dangerously soft.
“Lie again, and the next bullet will go straight through your skull.”
Rita’s face drained of color. Her hands trembled. She believed him.
Everyone did.Then—
SLAM!
Sylvester’s fist crashed onto the table.
“STOP IT, KALIX!” His voice was thunderous, his eyes locked onto the lifeless body on the floor with sheer disdain.
For the first time, he saw—truly saw—what his grandson had become.
A ruthless man.A man without hesitation.
But wasn’t he the one who made him this way?
Kalix’s lips curled. His grip on the gun tightened.
His grandfather’s outburst only proved one thing—he was still trying to protect Rita.
Even after what she’d done.Even after she had targeted Seren.
The realization made Kalix’s anger simmer, but he forced himself to stay in control.
With one final, measured breath, he lowered his gun.
But his voice, when he spoke, was lethal.
“Take this as your first and last warning.”
His tone left no room for negotiation. He had shown restraint only because they were family. But had they been anyone else, he wouldn’t have hesitated.
“Next time you even think about laying a finger on my woman or my daughter—” Kalix’s voice was low, deadly, each word laced with an unspoken promise of destruction.”— I will erase your very existence.”
A final warning. One that no one in the room dared to defy.
Silence pressed against them, thick and suffocating.
Satisfied that his message was clear, Kalix shoved his gun back into its holster. Then, without another word, he grabbed Winter’s hand.
She flinched. His touch was cold, sending a shiver up her spine.
Her heart pounded erratically inside her chest, her mind reeling as she stole one last glance at the lifeless body sprawled on the floor.
“Dump him.”Kalix’s command was sharp and unwavering.
“Make sure no one ever finds so much as his remains.”
Stanley nodded, already moving to carry out the order.
Kalix didn’t look back.He didn’t need to.
His arrival was akin to a sudden storm, leaving destruction in its wake. But it had been necessary.
They had dared to challenge him.And now, they knew Kalix Andreas was not a man to be crossed.

Outside, Kalix dragged Winter out of the house, his grip firm, unyielding.
But before they could reach the car, he suddenly pulled her against him for a hug.
Winter stiffened, still reeling from everything that had just transpired.
Her mind screamed at her to push him away, but the moment she felt herself engulfed in his embrace, everything came crashing down.
The weight of the chaos.
The blood.
The lifeless body inside.
“Y-You…” Her voice barely escaped in a whisper, trembling like her entire being.
“You killed that man.”
Kalix pulled back slightly but didn’t let her go.
His dark eyes bore into hers, unreadable.
“Did it scare you?” His words weren’t a question. They were a statement.
And that made her shudder.
No sane person would deny that his actions had been terrifying. And yet, what scared her more was the way he barely seemed to feel anything.
How broken, how damaged did someone have to be… to kill without hesitation?
