Chapter 58: Chapter 58:There is nothing that can change my mind
“Good morning, Miss Wi—”
Sean barely got the words out before Winter stormed past him like a thunderstorm, not sparing him a single glance.
“What happened to her—” He turned toward the room, only to freeze at the sight before him.
Kalix was smiling to himself.
Sean’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. His vision had to be betraying him again.
Ever since Winter had stepped into his boss’s life, Kalix had been acting like a lovestruck puppy around her. And now—this? A smile? It wasn’t the first time, but it still left Sean utterly appalled.
The rare expression slowly faded as Kalix caught Sean staring at him like he had just seen a ghost.
“Yes, Sean?” Kalix’s deep, authoritative voice snapped him out of his daze.
“B-Boss,” Sean stammered, quickly trying to regain his composure.
“Miss Gina and her manager will be arriving shortly to sign the contract,” he reported, his ears turning red at the sound of his own voice.
Kalix arched a brow, noticing the slight hesitation in Sean’s demeanor. His piercing gaze didn’t miss the flustered look on his assistant’s face.
“You know what you have to do,” Kalix stated simply.
Sean nodded, albeit hesitantly.
He was a confident assistant when it came to work, but when it came to women… that was another story.
“Anything else, Sean?” Kalix asked, sensing there was more.
Sean’s expression shifted, his initial nervousness giving way to something far more serious. The change in his demeanor made Kalix frown.
“There’s another message,” Sean said, his voice lowering as he handed over the tabloid. The air in the room thickened instantly.
‘STOP BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE’
“I think this is another trap,” Sean added, watching as Kalix examined the message with an unreadable expression.
Kalix’s thoughts drifted back to the previous evening.
They had gone to the bar, expecting to confront the man behind the threats—only to realize it had been a setup. A calculated trap meant to harm him.
Not only had someone spiked his drink, but even the waiter who served it had attempted to attack him.
It was clear now—someone was trying to mislead them, to divert their focus from uncovering the truth.
But no matter what, Kalix wasn’t going to stop.
He needed answers. He needed to find the people responsible for dragging him deeper into their schemes.
“They already see me as a threat. So be it. Because no matter what, I won’t stop for anything,” Kalix said, his voice void of emotion as he handed the tabloid back to Sean.
“If he wants to play games, then fine. Let’s play along.” His tone was calm, almost indifferent.
Sean gave Kalix a pitiful look.
“What?” Kalix asked, raising an eyebrow. “Why are you staring at me like a cornered puppy?” He picked up a file from the table, flipping it open to review.
Sean hesitated before speaking. “You can’t be reckless, Boss. You do realize you’re not alone anymore.”

Kalix’s hand stilled on the paper, but he didn’t look up.
“I know,” he admitted. “That’s why I want to find these people—so I can put everything behind me and finally live a peaceful life.”
“But you already have that, don’t you?” Sean challenged. “The woman you admired for years is finally with you. Then why can’t you let go of this hunt, Boss? We already have enough enemies to deal with.”
This time, Kalix did look up, his brooding stare locking onto Sean.
The sharp intensity in his gaze made Sean flinch.
“Are you scared, Sean?” Kalix asked, his deep voice laced with challenge.
Sean shook his head. “I’m not scared, Boss. I just want to see you happy.”
He had been by Kalix’s side for years. He had seen this man consumed by vengeance, barely recognizable under the weight of his rage. For Kalix, fighting had been an escape, and justice had been his only relief.
But for the first time, after meeting Winter, he had seen something different.
A reason.
Someone who gave him a purpose beyond revenge. Someone who made him want to live—not for payback, but for himself. For happiness.
“I will be—once I find the ones who took my parents from me,” Kalix declared, his voice unyielding.
Before Winter, his only purpose had been to hunt down the people responsible for his parents’ deaths. The media had painted it as an accident, but Kalix knew the truth. It had been murder. A calculated, cold-blooded execution.
Sean studied his expression, noting the brief flicker of pain that crossed his otherwise stoic face.
He had known bringing this up would reopen old wounds, but there was no stopping Kalix once he had made up his mind.
“There’s nothing you can do to change my mind, Sean,” Kalix stated firmly, shutting down any further argument.
Sean lowered his gaze, silent for a moment.
The image of the people who had once given him shelter flashed in his mind. An orphan with no one to call his own—until they took him in, showed him love, gave him a family.
It was cruel that both of them had lost the ones they loved. But he also remembered what they had wanted for them.
They had wanted them to live. To be happy. To move forward.
“I understand, Boss,” Sean finally said, his voice quiet yet resigned.
With that, he turned on his heels and left the room.
Kalix leaned back in his chair, gripping the armrests as his jaw clenched.
The past would not be buried.
Not until he unearthed the truth.

[Winter’s Desk]
After storming out of Kalix’s office, Winter forced herself to focus on work. However, her intense way of typing quickly drew the attention of everyone around her.
TAK TAK TAK…
Her fingers flew over the keyboard, creating a loud, almost aggressive tapping sound that echoed across the office. One by one, heads began to turn, curious eyes glancing in her direction.
Mia, who had been quietly observing the growing spectacle, leaned back in her chair and cleared her throat.
“Are you planning on breaking the keyboard?” she whispered, amusement lacing her tone.
Winter flinched at the unexpected interruption and turned to face Mia, who was now wearing an awkward yet amused smile.
It was only then that Winter realized just how loud she had been—and how nearly every employee in the room was now staring at her.
A wave of embarrassment washed over Winter, and she quickly lowered her gaze, forcing herself to type as delicately as possible.
Mia chuckled, leaning in slightly. “I know exactly where this is coming from. Everyone here has faced the devil’s wrath at least once in their life.”
Winter frowned, curiosity sparking in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
Mia rested her elbow on the armrest, her expression turning thoughtful. “I know Boss scolded you. He does it to everyone. Don’t dwell on it—just learn from it and move on.”
Winter blinked at her in disbelief.
‘She thinks I was being scolded in there?’
“Is it always like this?” Winter asked, her curiosity piqued.
Mia nodded. “Yes, he’s a devil void of emotion. You know, we barely ever see Boss smile. But when he did—for you—it completely changed how we saw him.” Her eyes gleamed with hope for a moment before the sparkle faded.
“But I guess it was just a misunderstanding. See? He ended up scolding you too.” Mia shrugged.
Winter had been eager to hear more about Kalix from Mia, but a sudden phone call interrupted her thoughts.
“Excuse me,” she muttered, quickly stepping away toward a secluded spot.
Her brows furrowed when she saw Mrs. Brooke calling. Without hesitation, she answered the call.
