Chapter 70: Chapter 70: When will you love me, Angel?
Kalix stood there, flashing his charming smile, his eyes playfully lingering on Winter’s panicked face.
“Shh, it’s me. Don’t scream,” he murmured, his deep, velvety voice sending an involuntary shiver down her spine.
For a brief moment, relief washed over her, but it was quickly replaced by anger. She shoved him back, her teeth gritting in frustration.
“What kind of boss corners his employee like this? Don’t you fear someone might see us?” she snapped, her voice laced with irritation.
Kalix remained unbothered, amusement flickering in his gaze as he watched her, and then it struck her.He didn’t care about the contract at all.
A disbelieving chuckle slipped past her lips. “I should’ve known… You barely take our agreement seriously. Everything you do is the opposite of what we agreed upon.”
Kalix smirked. “Did I complain when you broke the sleeping arrangement clause? No? Then you shouldn’t be offended if someone sees us together.”
He leaned in, his voice dropping to a wicked whisper. “And even if they do… I know how to silence them.”
Winter’s eyes widened. “Y-You..How can you say that?! I never broke any clause! It was because of Seren that we had to share the same bed!”
Kalix tilted his head, amusement gleaming in his dark eyes. “That doesn’t justify anything, Angel.” His voice was soft, but there was something dangerously possessive about it.
“You still broke the clause, and now you’re telling me to follow it alone?”
Before she could respond, Kalix moved, pinning her against the wall with effortless dominance. His hands caged her in, his body mere inches from hers.
Winter’s breath hitched. Too close. Too overwhelming. Too… Kalix.
He had given her space—time to come to him on her own—but after what he had overheard, he could no longer hold back.
His voice softened, but there was an unmistakable edge of authority in it.
“Why didn’t you say anything back there?” He reached up, gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Winter’s pulse quickened, her heart hammering in her chest.
“You could have told me what Dianna said to you,” he continued, his fingers lingering near her cheek. “It was the perfect chance to put her in her place after what she did to you. Why would you let it slide?”
Winter swallowed hard. Her lips parted, but no words came out.
Because Kalix was right.
And that was the problem.
She had spent so long fighting her own battles, keeping her guard up, refusing to let anyone stand up for her. But Kalix—he wasn’t backing down.
His touch was featherlight as he tucked her hair behind her ear, but it left a trail of heat in its wake. His closeness was suffocating, intoxicating.
Winter turned her face away, needing to put some distance between them, but Kalix wasn’t having it. His fingers brushed along her jaw, gently but firmly, guiding her gaze back to his.
“Why do you always do this?” he murmured, his voice low and husky.
Winter frowned. “Do what?”
“Act like you have to handle everything alone. Like you can’t let anyone fight for you.”
His words hit too deep, striking a part of her she wasn’t ready to confront.
“You don’t understand,” she whispered.
“Then make me,” Kalix challenged.

His thumb traced the corner of her lip, and Winter gasped softly at the unexpected tenderness in his touch.
“Kalix…” Her voice wavered.
“Tell me to stop,” he said, voice barely above a whisper, his breath warm against her skin.
She should.
She needed to.
But when his hand slid to the nape of her neck, fingers threading into her hair, the words never came.
Instead, she found herself leaning into him, her body betraying her resolve. Kalix’s lips hovered over hers—waiting—as if daring her to pull away.
But she didn’t.
And then, in one slow, devastating moment, he closed the distance.
His lips brushed against hers, tentative but electrifying, setting off a firestorm inside her. Winter sucked in a sharp breath, her hands fisting the fabric of his shirt as if to ground herself, but Kalix only deepened the kiss, claiming her without hesitation.
A whimper escaped her throat, shocking her back to reality.
She jerked away, her heart hammering as she stared at him, wide-eyed and breathless.
Kalix smirked, his thumb swiping across his bottom lip like he could still taste her. “Now, was that really so bad, Angel?”
Winter’s stomach twisted. Because she didn’t have an answer.
“It’s not that I’m scared of Dianna. I can stand up for myself. But knowing she’ll always see me as a rival… there’s nothing I can do about it.”
Kalix arched a brow. Despite the breathlessness in her voice, her words stirred something in him.
She was right. Now that Dianna knew who Winter was, there was no chance she would stop nitpicking over trivial matters.
But it wasn’t her words that pricked his heart—it was how casually she spoke about it.
For once, he wanted her to claim him. To let the world know he was the one she wanted. That he was hers. But instead, all she cared about was what Dianna thought.
His voice dropped to a whisper, raw and unguarded.
“When will you love me, Angel?”
“…”
Winter stood frozen, Kalix’s eyes locking onto hers with a longing that unsettled her. She had no idea what to make of it, but the way his gaze stirred something deep within her felt oddly familiar, dangerously so.
“What’s with that look?” she asked, quickly averting her eyes. Warmth seeped into her heart, an unwelcome sensation she desperately tried to escape. But Kalix wouldn’t let her—he held her back.
“Did it affect you?” he pressed, his voice low, his presence overwhelming.
Winter’s breath hitched. If he persisted, she wasn’t sure her knees would hold her up. This wasn’t what she wanted. She knew that. But then why couldn’t she answer him?
Was it his words that unsettled her? Or was it the way his eyes held her captive, too mesmerizing to look away from?
Winter felt torn, but reality quickly pulled her from her trance.
“No, it doesn’t,” she denied, the words leaving her lips before she could stop them.
Regret followed instantly.
Kalix’s eyes dimmed, the sting of rejection flickering across his face. He lowered his head, exhaling a quiet sigh before meeting her gaze once more.
“Then I need to work harder,” he murmured, his deep voice wrapping around her like a spell.
Winter blinked, her breath catching as he smiled,a fleeting curve of his lips that never reached his eyes.
Maybe I was too harsh? The thought gnawed at her, but before she could say anything, Kalix stepped back.
For a few long seconds, silence hung between them. His gaze never wavered, piercing into hers as if searching for something she refused to give.
Then, without another word, he turned to leave.
An ache tightened in Winter’s chest, unexpected and unwelcome, as she watched him walk away.
