Chapter 83: Chapter 83: You are kissing me
“Was it necessary to go public with the recovery news? Since when did Grandpa start acting like Agnes?” Winter slammed her phone onto the table, frustration clear in her voice, before stuffing her mouth with a sandwich.
Kalix noticed the displeasure in her tone and smirked.
“I asked him to do so,” he said casually.
She choked mid-bite, coughing as she shot him a disbelieving look.
“You what?” she snapped, struggling to grasp his words.
Her grandfather had just woken up from a coma, and now he was broadcasting his recovery? Was he trying to give updates directly to his attacker?
“You heard me, Angel. Trust me, it’s the only way to lure them out,” Kalix replied so nonchalantly that Winter felt like laughing.
This man, who treated guns like toys and killed without hesitation, had advised her grandfather to announce his recovery just to bait the attacker?
Winter didn’t want anything happening to Bryson again, and the mere thought of it made her stomach twist uncomfortably.
“And do you think being discreet has gotten us anywhere?” Kalix countered, his voice calm yet pointed.
Winter frowned. “What are you trying to say?”
“It’s simple, Angel. The person who attacked your grandfather already knows everything about him. That’s exactly why they haven’t made another move yet,” Kalix explained, his words cutting through her frustration like a blade.
Winter pondered over his words, a realization slowly dawning on her.
Kalix had been relentlessly trying to track the attacker. Despite having skilled people and every resource at his disposal, they still had no solid lead.
At first, she had assumed the culprit was her father. But that theory had crumbled when they easily found and dealt with him as soon as he made a move. However, when it came to the previous attacks, the near-fatal one included, they were still grasping at straws.
“You’re saying the person who attacked Grandpa knows him and our family?” She asked skeptically, searching his face for any hint of doubt.
Kalix nodded, confirming her fears. “In fact, I believe this person is someone close to him…or at the very least, knows him well enough to be patient and precise with their next move.”
“But how is that possible?” Winter demanded, her eyes narrowing. “If the person was someone close to him, he would have known and so would we. How does that justify your doubts?”
“Because that person is smart, not reckless,” Kalix replied, his eyes darkening at the thought of an adversary who had managed to elude them for so long.
Though still skeptical, Winter decided to trust Kalix for now.
“So you think that with Grandpa going public, he’ll eventually make a move?” she asked intently.
“Not immediately, but surely he will and that move will give us a lead,” Kalix assured her confidently.
Winter pouted in confusion but didn’t dwell on it, continuing to eat her sandwich.
Once she was done, Winter got off the bed, intending to head back to her room to change.
“Where are you going?” Kalix asked, stopping her midway.
She paused momentarily before turning to face him. “I’m getting ready for work. And if you’re about to bring Seren into this, don’t bother; it doesn’t count when you clearly bribed her to make me stay home for no reason.”
Under different circumstances, Winter wouldn’t have minded staying home. But knowing Kalix had purposely used Seren as bait to keep her put, she refused to give in to his tactics.
“You’re not well, Angel. You had a mild fever last night,” Kalix said, his expression darkening when she dismissed his concern.
He wasn’t the type to control her choices, but after seeing her temperature spike overnight, he couldn’t ignore it. Letting her overexert herself was not an option.
“But I am perfectly fine now,” she countered, refusing to listen to him.

“Still, I won’t allow you to work when I won’t be at ease,” Kalix argued, dismissing her protest without hesitation.
Winter glared at him furiously. The way he ignored her words irritated her to no end, but she wasn’t the type to back down.
“Then stop me,” she warned, turning on her heel. She reached for the door, but before she could open it, Kalix slammed it shut.
“Angel, you’re not working today.”
Winter spun to face him, anger burning in her eyes.
“And now you’re going to stop me from leaving the room?” she asked, shooting daggers at him.
“Didn’t you just ask me?” He countered smoothly, his quick response making her glare falter for a brief moment.
“B-but that doesn’t mean you should,” Winter stumbled over her own words, her eyes looking elsewhere but him.
Kalix arched a brow, the corner of his lips tugging into a playful grin.
“Are you scared, Angel?” he teased, watching her closely. The way she shrank back slightly reminded him of a kitten cornered with no escape.
Winter shot him a sharp look. “W-why would I be scared of you? Now let me go,” she demanded, trying to divert his thoughts.
But Kalix didn’t waver. Instead, he moved closer, caging her between his arms and the door.
“Then why won’t you look at me?” He challenged, his voice low, refusing to back down.
Winter’s breath hitched as Kalix suddenly moved closer, his face just inches from hers. Her heart pounded inside her chest, and her lips quivered at the sight of his own—tempting, dangerously close.
“I-I am looking at you,” she mumbled, but her gaze betrayed her, flickering to his lips.
Those thin, enticing lips made her gulp, and when she finally forced herself to meet his gaze, she found herself drowning in the depth of his dark, intense green eyes.
She had always found them hypnotizing. Captivating beyond reason.
And the closeness made it impossible to think. His scent, the rich, intoxicating notes of his cologne, wrapped around her senses, making her feel lightheaded yet yearning.
Kalix observed her closely, the way her eyes flickered between his lips and his gaze. The way she breathed was just a little heavier. It made him feel like the only man in her world.
Those eyes never lied. They always spoke the emotions she refused to voice.
Tilting his head, Kalix leaned in, his lips brushing the crook of her neck as he inhaled her scent.
“You’re a bad liar, Angel,” he murmured, his hand tracing a slow path from her arm to her shoulder, then lower just enough to make her shiver.
Winter’s restraint wavered. Her eyes fluttered closed as she felt herself sinking into the moment, her body responding to the slow, deliberate way he touched her.
“When… when did I lie?” she whispered, trying to hold onto the last shred of control, but the way his fingers teased against her skin made her weak.
Kalix pressed a soft, lingering kiss against her neck, sending a violent shiver down her spine.
Winter bit her lip, trying to suppress the heat rising in her, but it was impossible when his touch made her crave more.
“Now.”
Kalix’s voice, low and teasing, pulled her out of her trance. Before she could react, he had already pulled back, his intense gaze locked onto hers.
“You’re dying to kiss me, yet you hold yourself back. Why is that?” he asked, his words stirring something deep within her.
Winter’s breath caught as her eyes drifted to his lips again. Her hesitation wavered, her resolve slipping through her fingers like sand.
Without another thought, she reached up and cupped his face.
“I don’t,” she whispered.
And then, without holding back, she kissed him.
The world seemed to stop, leaving only the sound of their racing hearts.
Winter’s mind flickered back to her words from the night before, her firm declaration of not touching him. And yet, here she was, doing exactly that.
Kissing him.
But she tried to justify it, telling herself that the gesture was merely a reward, a small token of appreciation for his thoughtfulness and kindness toward her.
A harmless indulgence.Or so she wanted to believe.
Whatever it was, Winter didn’t hold back. She kissed him hard, as if claiming his words. Claiming him.
Yes, she craved him like no one else. And just the thought of him being with anyone but her ignited a fire she hadn’t even realized existed within her.
She had always been slow and cautious when it came to her heart, but now… she wanted to give him a chance.
Before, she had only agreed to be with him because she needed his protection for her grandfather. But now?
Now, she wanted to be with him because she felt like it.
He had once said he wanted her to kiss him a hundred times a day.
And she was ready because as much as he craved her, she desired him even more.
“You’re kissing me, Angel,” Kalix murmured against her lips, his voice laced with amusement.
Winter ignored his words, too lost in the moment to care. She continued to devour him, claiming him in every possible way, her body responding to the fire he effortlessly ignited within her.
It wasn’t until her lungs burned for air, her head spinning from the lack of oxygen, that she finally pulled away.
Breathless, she rested her forehead against his shoulder, trying to steady her rapid breathing. But before she could fully recover, Kalix swept her up into his arms with ease.
Her eyes widened as he carried her back to the bed, his grip firm yet gentle.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he stated with finality, his gaze locking onto hers.
Winter opened her mouth to protest-
But no words came out and just like that, he again had his way with her.
