Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Jealous? Him? Was she joking?
Since Kalix had decided to work from home, Sean took it upon himself to handle matters at the company in his absence. After finalizing a deal with clients the day before, he forwarded an invoice to Kalix along with key points they were looking forward to working on.
Sean had just finished drafting a file when his phone began to ring.
He wasn’t one to entertain calls unless they were work-related, but today was an exception; the caller was none other than Gina.
Pausing his work, Sean took a deep breath before answering.
“Are you busy?” Gina asked, skipping any formalities. Her tone was serious and focused, making Sean lean back in his chair with a smile.
“I… think so,” he replied dramatically, earning a frustrated grunt from her.
“How is that possible when your boss isn’t even at work today?” She countered, but the moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them.
She hadn’t meant to blurt that out.
Sean arched a brow in amusement. “Is Miss Gina keeping tabs on me?” he teased.
A wave of embarrassment washed over Gina. It was foolish of her to let that slip, but now that he’d caught her, there was no use in lying.
“I heard from Winter that Kalix is working from home. That’s why I asked if you were busy,” she admitted, not bothering to hide her thoughts.
Sean’s smile widened. Gina was outspoken, but she never harbored ill intentions, nor did she filter her emotions. She was an open book, the one he could read without ever getting lost.
He nodded in understanding. “Yes, the boss has decided to work from home-”
“Then why did you say you were busy?” Gina cut in, her impatience slipping through.
Sean easily picked up on her eagerness. As much as he missed spending time with her, he enjoyed these moments when she reached out first, making him feel wanted.
“I simply wanted to see how you’d react,” he admitted, his tone laced with amusement.
Gina’s embarrassment deepened. She was used to having the upper hand when flirting with men, but with Sean, she always seemed to fall short of words.
Am I getting flustered? Gina wondered, feeling the heat rise to her face. But she quickly shook off the thought.
“Very funny. Now, tell me—will you go out with me for lunch?” She asked, pushing aside all distractions.
Sean thought for a second before nodding. “I can.”
A triumphant smile spread across Gina’s face. “Then see you for lunch,” she chirped, sounding like a kid who had just gotten her favorite candy.
With that, they ended the call.
Sean couldn’t stop smiling as he placed his phone back on the table. But his moment of amusement was short-lived when the door to his office flung open, and Diana stormed in.
“Sean, where is Kalix, and why isn’t he answering my calls?”
Sean noted the frustration on Diana’s face; it hadn’t left since last evening. He knew exactly why. Her plans to spend time with Kalix had been ruined, and he was partly to blame.
“Boss is working from home today,” Sean replied coolly. “He also made it clear that he won’t be attending any calls unless they’re work-related.”
Diana’s expression darkened further.
Sean could have ignored her, considering how she had always looked down on him. But as Kalix’s responsible subordinate and a respectful human being, he chose to answer her properly.
Diana fumed at the thought of Kalix and Winter spending the day together at home. The humiliation burned deep. She had never felt this disregarded before and it was all because of Winter.
If only she hadn’t shown up, Kalix would have been mine.

Anger flared inside her as she turned on her heels and stormed out of the office.
Sean smirked, watching her leave before returning his attention to his work.
Meanwhile, back at the penthouse, Winter lay sprawled across the bed lazily while Kalix remained immersed in the work he had Sean transfer over.
Why am I the only one being punished here? She whined internally, glancing over at him.
Sighing, she reached for her phone on the bedside table.
She was beyond bored since she had already lost the battle and agreed to stay, but now she had no idea how she was supposed to pass the time just sitting around doing nothing.
Kalix glanced at Winter, who was completely engrossed in her phone, scrolling through something with an intense focus. She was so immersed that he couldn’t help but ask,
“Angel, can you help me with this file? I think there’s a mistake here.”
Winter’s eyes lit up like a child receiving their favorite candy, and she quickly sat up.
Without hesitation, Kalix carried the laptop over to her. She eagerly grabbed it from him, her curiosity piqued as she scanned the document.
As she became absorbed in the task, Kalix found himself unable to look away. She was beautiful from every angle, and he couldn’t help but admire her.
Then, out of nowhere, he asked, “Who was that guy you had dinner with?”
Winter froze mid-scroll. Slowly, she lifted her gaze to him, her brows furrowing.
“Who?” she asked, confused.
Kalix lazily leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. His tone remained calm, but there was an undeniable edge to it.
“The one you were laughing with,” he clarified.
Winter blinked, trying to recall what he was referring to. Though Kalix tried to sound indifferent, his eyes betrayed him—jealousy burned in them.
The real reason he had gone to the base and drowned himself in drinks wasn’t just because she had rejected him. No, it was because she had ignored him completely, gone out with her friends, laughed with another man, and acted as if he didn’t exist.
If it were up to him, Kalix would have caged her, handcuffed her to his side so she had no choice but to stay with him. But he knew that forcing her would only push her further away.
Kalix knew he wasn’t a good man to begin with, but for Winter, he was trying…trying to change the way he thought, the way he reacted. However, he wasn’t confident in how long he could keep it up.
Winter pondered for a moment, and only one image flashed in her mind.
“Are you talking about Felix?” she asked, watching Kalix’s expression shift into one of complete disinterest.
She couldn’t help but chuckle at his reaction.
Who was he? A five-year-old kid?
“Whatever his name is,” Kalix muttered, his tone clipped. “I think you should stay away from him.”
Winter’s amusement faded as she narrowed her eyes. She understood that he was jealous, but deciding who she could and couldn’t talk to was not his place.
“I don’t remember signing a contract that said I couldn’t talk to my teammates,” she countered, tilting her head in challenge.
Kalix straightened slightly. He knew he was overreacting, but he couldn’t help it. The way Winter had smiled at that guy as if she had known him forever and it bothered him more than he cared to admit.
He was still lost in thought when Winter suddenly leaned in, her face inches from his.
She sniffed, scrunching her nose. “Why do I feel like something’s burning?”
She pulled back just as quickly, catching Kalix completely off guard.
His eyes widened slightly.
‘Jealous? Him? Was she joking?’
