Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Relationship advice
The couple finished their lunch, with Kalix resuming his work while Winter, as usual, passed the time doing nothing. But then, suddenly, her phone rang, and her brows furrowed at the sight of Lilac’s name flashing on the screen.
Without wasting a second, she quickly answered the call. “Hello,” Winter kept her tone low and calm, making sure not to disturb Kalix. However, to her dismay, he shot her a curious glance before turning back to his laptop.
“You won’t believe what happened to me, sister-in-law!” Lilac’s voice burst through the speaker, so loud that Winter almost flinched.
The hyperactive and overly dramatic Lilac was at it again. Winter couldn’t help but wonder what had happened this time to leave her so shocked.
She felt Kalix steal another glance at her, his intense gaze picking up on the subtle shift in her expression. He was like a camera, constantly focused on her, making her feel oddly exposed.
Turning to face him, she pulled the phone slightly away from her ear. “Do you need something?” she asked, her eyes locked onto his curiously and her lips stretched into a forced smile.
Kalix observed her for a few seconds before shaking his head.
“Then I’ll be in my room for a while,” Winter said, slowly sliding off the bed, ready to sneak away. But midway, she stopped, shooting Kalix a warning look paired with a forced smile.
“And if you disturb me, I’ll never spare you a kiss.”
“…”
Winter had no idea what had just slipped from her mouth, but it certainly had the intended effect. Kalix froze in his seat, stunned into silence, giving her the perfect opportunity to escape. She quickly ran out of the room before he could recover.
Kalix felt as though he’d been struck by Cupid himself. His mind reeled, and a giddy feeling spread through him at the thought of Winter kissing him.
Meanwhile, Winter rushed into her room, locking the door behind her. She sprinted straight to the couch and resumed her conversation.
“What just happened? What was that about a kiss?” Lilac demanded, her curiosity practically radiating through the phone.
It was only then that Winter fully realized what she had blurted out.
“It was just a warning to stop your brother from following me,” she fumbled with a nonchalant response, leaving Lilac suspicious.
But before she could press further, Winter quickly changed the subject.
“Anyway, what were you talking about earlier?”
Lilac completely forgot what she was supposed to ask and immediately went back to talking about Stanley.
Winter listened intently, surprised by everything Lilac shared. One thing was clear and that was Stanley was definitely affected by her, even if he was purposely keeping his distance.
“He’s been acting strangely ever since I sprained my leg,” Lilac mumbled, leaving Winter deep in thought.
“Then take it as a sign that your plan is working, Lilac,” Winter said. “You wanted to make Stanley realize what he’s missing out on, right? Maybe he was so worried about you that he couldn’t suppress his emotions anymore.”
Lilac gasped dramatically.
“Oh my God, sister-in-law, you’re a genius!” she exclaimed, making Winter flush with embarrassment.
She hadn’t expected her words to have such an impact. It was ironic—she could give relationship advice, yet when it came to her own love life, she was utterly clueless.
“I think I should give him some time before he finally lets his guard down,” Lilac murmured thoughtfully.
“That sounds like a good plan. Just take it one step at a time, and I’m sure you’ll get what you want,” Winter encouraged her.
The girls continued chatting for a while before finally hanging up.
A fresh sense of relief washed over Winter, and she smiled to herself. In such a short time, she had grown fond of Lilac, and knowing that her advice actually helped made her feel oddly accomplished.
She was still basking in her moment of self-appreciation when something caught her attention. Without a second thought, she climbed off the couch, sprinted to the door, and yanked it open.

“Kalix! What are you doing?!” she exclaimed, shocked to find him leaning against the door, clearly trying to eavesdrop on her conversation with Lilac.
The moment she caught him, he straightened and feigned innocence.
“Ahem-hm. It’s time for Seren’s school to get over,” he said smoothly.
Winter glanced at her phone and gasped at the time.
Kalix had dodged the confrontation effortlessly, but his curiosity about her conversation remained.

“Mommy, why did you come to pick me up? Grandpa James was supposed to come instead. Right, Daddy?” Seren asked innocently, staring up at her father.
Winter shot a sharp glare at Kalix, who continued to look out the window as if he hadn’t heard a thing.
“An attempt to dodge a bullet got us here,” Winter muttered under her breath, making Kalix shift uncomfortably in his seat.
Seren, utterly confused, turned to her father for help.
“Daddy, what does ‘dodging a bullet’ mean?” She asked, instantly seizing Kalix’s attention.
Winter stretched her lips in amusement. “Yes, Kalix, why don’t you explain it to her?” she added, leaving him in a tight spot.
She had long figured out his ploy to avoid answering her questions, but she wasn’t about to let it slide, not when their daughter was just as curious.
Kalix looked at Winter, then back at Seren. In a swift move, he picked Seren up and placed her on his lap.
“It’s just a phrase, Star. Nothing too important,” he said smoothly, trying to brush it off.
But Winter wasn’t about to let him get away so easily.
“Yes, a phrase used to hide someone’s intentions from getting exposed,” she whispered, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“Right, Daddy?” She turned to Kalix with a knowing look, clearly enjoying his predicament.
Kalix met her gaze, his eyes darkening as he took in her playful expression. The challenge in her eyes stirred something deep within him, turning his irritation into something entirely different.
‘Just meet me alone, Angel, and I’ll show you what it really means.’
Winter cocked a brow, instantly catching onto the meaning behind his look. Smirking, she leaned back and countered,
‘Let’s see how you even manage to make up for a hundred kisses a day. Keep dreaming, Kalix, because that’s never going to happen.’
