Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Did you reject me because you truly don’t like me?
Winter pulled back abruptly, noticing the flicker of lust lingering in Kalix’s eyes. The burning desire she had ignited that very morning left them both feeling needy.
However, no matter how much they wanted to devour each other, a certain someone continued banging on the door.
“Mommy! Daddy! It’s time to wake up!” Seren’s voice rang from outside, stopping them in their tracks. Without another thought, they quickly pulled away to start their day.
While Kalix and Winter got ready, Seren was busy helping the servants in the dining area.
“Young Miss, why don’t you let the cook handle it?” Butler James voiced his concern as he watched Seren take it upon herself to prepare sandwiches for her parents instead of getting ready for school.
However, the little girl simply smiled, her eyes twinkling with determination, and continued assembling breakfast, while Flash wagged his tail excitedly, gnawing on a bone.
“Done!” Seren finally sighed, standing on a chair with a proud smile.
“Tell me, Grandpa James, how does it look?” she asked, her expression full of anticipation.
James couldn’t ignore the mess Seren had made, but the moment his eyes landed on the sandwiches, a wave of relief washed over him.
His lips twitched before breaking into a proud smile, and he couldn’t stop himself from giving her a thumbs-up.
Seren giggled, her eyes lighting up as she spotted her parents making their way toward her.
“Mommy! Daddy! Look what I made for you!” she exclaimed, jumping down from the chair and running to them.
As they reached the dining table, Kalix was momentarily taken aback by the sandwich Seren had prepared. It was shaped like a human face, odd, yet somehow recognizable.
“Is that… Daddy?” he asked, pulling out a chair before lifting Seren onto his lap.
Winter, already familiar with Seren’s creative streak, smiled and took a seat beside them.
“And that’s Mommy!” Seren beamed proudly, pointing at another sandwich.
Kalix had no idea his daughter possessed such a creative talent, but now that he did, he couldn’t help but adore her even more.
Back when they had lived alone, Winter had always been busy with work, and Seren had spent most of her time either by herself or with Gina, who frequently dropped by their apartment.
It was during those times that Seren had picked up small household skills, learning to do things on her own. Preparing a simple breakfast had become one of them.
Kalix took a bite of the sandwich his daughter had made, savoring the moment. For the first time in a long while, breakfast felt complete—filled with warmth and contentment.
The family of three soon finished breakfast and left the house after Seren got ready for school.
Kalix and Seren were the first to get into the car; however, Winter hesitated when a call came through just outside. She glanced at the unknown number and furrowed her brow before answering.
Inside, Seren chatted excitedly with her father about her weekend plans and how she was looking forward to meeting Slyvester. Yet, despite the cheerful conversation, Kalix’s eyes kept lingering on Winter.
It took a few minutes for Winter to finish her call and join them, and during that time, Kalix couldn’t help but notice a change in her expression.

Meanwhile, inside Rita’s room, Dianna watched her sister suspiciously.
“Are you really going to apologize to Winter?” Dianna shot her a seething glare.
After Roger gave her an ultimatum, Rita finally set her ego aside and accepted her husband’s suggestion. However, that decision did not sit well with Dianna.
“That’s the only way to save my crumbling marriage, Dianna. You know I can’t lose Roger at any cost,” Rita stated, tossing her phone aside as she walked over to her wardrobe to pick out a dress.
“Then what about me? Are you saying you’re giving up on my plans to marry Kalix?” Dianna snapped, feeling suddenly neglected.

The idea of Rita lowering her guard to seek forgiveness from Winter made Dianna’s blood boil with rage, yet, it was the last thing she expected her sister to do.
Rita, on the other hand, shot Dianna a knowing look. No matter how much time they had spent growing up together, Dianna had always been the slow one to pick up on her actions. Her temperament and emotions constantly undermined her cunning mind, which was also why Dianna never really got her way with Kalix in the first place.
“I never said I was giving up on my stand to get you and Kalix together. But with Winter and her daughter around, do you really think Kalix would consider anyone else?” Rita countered, offering a fitting reply to Dianna.
She knew their plan to scare off Winter had backfired, and now they had to be more cautious than ever. It was better to think wisely than to rush into actions without considering the consequences.
Not only had Kalix threatened drastic measures by figuratively putting a bullet through her skull but also Slyvester and Roger had also warned her about her behavior.
Slyvester might have forgiven her, yet there remained a lingering hesitation on his part to fully trust her. And then there was Roger, who wanted nothing more than to make amends with Winter, or else risk losing the relationship that had been forced upon him years ago.
Dianna looked away, still unconvinced by Rita’s sudden change of heart. However, Rita didn’t dwell on it.
“For now, my only concern is saving my marriage, and if seeking forgiveness from Winter is what Roger wants, then be it,” Rita declared.
Dianna fumed. Unable to stand her sister’s words, she turned on her heels and stormed out of the room.
Yet, her departure soon drew a twisted smile on Rita’s face before she turned to attend to her business.

Ever since Sean rejected her, Gina had struggled to come to terms with it. While Lily continued to ignore her, Gina sought help from Winter, who informed her about Sean’s schedule.
Gina was not usually one to dwell on someone twice, but with Sean it was different. He had not only captured her attention but had also rejected her when she asked him out on a date. He wanted a serious, committed relationship, while she was only interested in casual flings with no strings attached.
Their differing mindsets made it difficult for them to connect, yet Gina couldn’t move on from him. Determined, she decided to visit the company where he worked. She parked her car and waited, hoping to negotiate and reconcile with him. However, as soon as she saw his car slowly pull into the parking area, her hopes vanished at the sight of a woman stepping out with him.
Gina’s expression darkened as she removed her glasses and scrutinized the pair, who exchanged smiles and pleasantries before the woman walked away, hiding her blush. Sean was about to leave when, suddenly, Gina appeared, blocking his path.
“Miss Gina, what are you doing here?” Sean asked, confused.
“Was that girl the reason you rejected me?” Gina shot back, ignoring his question as she stepped dangerously closer.
Seeing them smile together made her heart twist in a way she didn’t want to acknowledge. Yet here he was, standing before her, pretending to be clueless.
Sean was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Gina to track him down, but the jealousy in her voice stirred an odd sense of pride in him.
He wanted to tease her, but he wasn’t the type to fabricate unnecessary lies just to get under her skin.
“That’s Mia, one of the employees here. I just gave her a ride to work,” he explained.
“But what about you, Miss Gina? What are you doing here? Stalking me?” he asked playfully, arching a brow.
Gina felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over her, momentarily rendering her speechless as she processed his words.
She wanted to talk to him, but not like this. Moreover she also misinterpriated his arrival with the woman before.
“I—I wasn’t stalking you, okay? I came here to meet Winter,” she denied quickly, but Sean’s unwavering gaze made it impossible to lie.
He nodded in understanding before turning on his heel. “Then I guess there’s nothing much for me to do here,” he said, walking away.
Yet Gina didn’t stop. She continued trailing after him like a lost puppy until they reached the private elevator and stepped inside.
Sean glanced at her in surprise, but Gina ignored him. Crossing her arms, she lifted her chin. “I know she works on your floor,” she said, feigning nonchalance.
“…”
Pressing the button for the tenth floor, Sean moved to the corner, watching as the elevator doors slid shut.
The tension between them thickened, and he could feel Gina’s eyes on him.
“Why are you staring at me?” he asked after a brief hesitation.
Gina leaned against the wall, her lips curling into a seductive smile that made Sean gulp.
“You know, you were the first man to reject me, and I can’t help but wonder what part of me didn’t you like?” she murmured, pushing off the wall and stepping toward him.
Her sharp gaze scrutinized him, and the moment Sean took a step back, she seized the opportunity, closing the distance between them.
Thud!
He found himself cornered.
“Tell me, Sean,” she whispered, her voice dangerously soft. “Did you reject me because you truly don’t like me? Or was there another reason?”
