- Chapter 146 - Chapter 146 She Has No Right
Chapter 146: She Has No Right Chapter 146: She Has No Right Rose grew more and more enthusiastic as she spoke, her voice rising with every word.
“Selina doesn’t even know who Gordon is!
Cousin, no matter how kind-hearted you are, you shouldn’t associate with someone like that.
A country bumpkin like her?
How laughable!” She deliberately raised her voice, drawing the attention of the surrounding shoppers.
People began to murmur, their expressions full of intrigue and disdain.
-The so-called eldest daughter of the Clark Family doesn’t even know who Gordon is?
-No wonder.
A person raised in the countryside can’t just magically transform into high society material.
Bella let Rose finish her insults, then put on a show of false disapproval.
“Rose, that’s enough.
If someone overhears, they might think we’re gossiping behind her back.
That wouldn’t be very nice…” “What?
Am I wrong?
Why shouldn’t I say it?” Rose scoffed.
“Unlike you, Cousin, she has no accomplishments, no noble upbringing.
You’re from an esteemed family, highly educated, with a successful career.
How can Selina even compare?” Gordon’s brows furrowed.
Who were these women?
And why were they being so openly hostile toward his Selina?
Not to mention, they spoke about attending his art exhibition as if it were some glorious privilege.
Interesting.
They looked down on Selina?
Fine.
Then they wouldn’t be attending his exhibition-he wouldn’t be welcoming them.
Gordon was just about to step forward when- The two women spotted Selina first.
“Oh?
Selina?
What a coincidence!
Are you here shopping for clothes?” Bella put on an expression of surprise, glancing around before feigning confusion.

“Logan isn’t with you?
And this gentleman…” Before she could finish, Rose sneered.
“Oh, Miss Clark.
Word is you’re quite the social butterfly-always surrounded by different men.
Who’s the lucky one this time?” Rose had heard that Logan had married a woman named Selina.
How could she accept this?
Originally, the Hayes Family and the Reid Family had an engagement, and she had always thought that Logan was her future brother-in-law.
And yet, this title had been stolen by a no-name bumpkin.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
Her disdain was unconcealed as she smirked.
“Tsk, tsk.
Some people have no taste-they reject Gordon’s art exhibition but have no issue parading around with random men.
What can you expect from a countryside girl?” Gordon’s face darkened.
“Young lady, I advise you not to slander Selina.” Rose let out a sharp laugh.
“Cousin, did I hear that right?
This random old man is telling me not to insult Selina?
That’s hilarious!” Bella sighed dramatically.
“Rose, maybe we shouldn’t assume things.
What if this gentleman and Selina don’t have that kind of relationship?” Rose snorted.
“Cousin, you’re too naive.
You come from an elite family-you’ve never needed money, never lacked power.
You wouldn’t understand how low some people can go just for money.” She sneered.
“Shopping with an old man?
Who knows what kind of dirty little deal they have?” Selina had been in a good mood today.
She hadn’t intended to destroy anyone.
But some people just begged for it.
She folded her arms and tilted her head mockingly.
“You seem awfully familiar with how these ‘transactions’ work.
Hmm?
Speaking from experience?” “You-!” Rose’s face flushed crimson, her words stuck in her throat.
Selina brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, smiling.
“Bella, seems like you didn’t learn your lesson last time.
Do I need to remind you again?” Bella’s expression stiffened.
She opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, Selina had already turned to Gordon and tugged his arm.
“Uncle, let’s go.
We’re here to shop, not to waste time on nonsense.” Gordon nodded in approval.
No point ruining their day over a couple of nobodies.
With that, he proceeded to buy Selina over a dozen outfits.
…
Bella sat there seething.
She had no outlet for her frustration, but just as Selina and Gordon were checking out, she suddenly spoke up.
“Selina, these clothes must cost well over a million.
Letting this… uncle buy them for you-don’t you think that’s a little inappropriate?” She deliberately stressed the word ‘uncle,’ hoping to plant doubts in the minds of the people around them.
Rose couldn’t hold back anymore.
She smirked and muttered, her voice dripping with malice- “Cousin, for some people, a million is just part of their… nightly earnings.
Not getting anything out of it would be a waste, wouldn’t it?” Selina’s gaze turned ice-cold.
Bella sighed helplessly, “I admit I was wrong last time.
I’ve been meaning to find a chance to make it up to you.
Since you refused the Gordon exhibition tickets, how about I cover today’s expenses as compensation?” She then glanced at Gordon, biting her lip hesitantly.
“But Selina… you are a married woman.
You should keep your distance from this gentleman.
A million isn’t a small amount, and I’d hate for rumors to spread and damage your reputation.” Selina let out a cold laugh.
Miss Hayes truly was a master at manipulating words.
With just a few sentences, she had twisted the narrative entirely-now, Selina was the one “cheating in her marriage” and getting caught red-handed.
Rose, looking pleased with herself, turned to the cashier.
“You heard that, right?
Charge today’s bill to the Hayes Family.
Some people really lucked out, running into my cousin-otherwise, they’d have to keep sleeping with men for money.
Who knows, they might even catch something from it.” Bella handed over her card, looking every bit the gracious benefactor.
Gordon, however, found the whole thing so absurd, he actually laughed.
Did these two idiots really think they could buy his Selina off with a measly million?
Stepping forward, he instinctively moved to shield Selina behind him-only for her to grab his wrist and hold him back.
Gordon was confused until he saw the mischievous smirk curling at her lips.
Gordon: “…” Oh no.
He suddenly had a very bad feeling.
So he did the only logical thing- He shut up.
Sure enough, the next moment, Selina’s demeanor shifted entirely.
She pouted sweetly, her voice dripping with feigned innocence.
“Oh my, are you jealous because someone’s willing to spend money on me?
Miss Hayes, please-what’s a mere million?
My uncle will pay for me~” Bella’s eyes lit up with satisfaction.
Selina really was an idiot.
She had walked straight into the trap.
Once this scandal spread, let’s see if Logan would still defend her!
Bella, however, maintained an expression of concern.
“Selina, don’t do this.
I know he’s not really your uncle.
I… I’ll keep your secret, but you have to promise me you’ll cut ties with this man, okay?” She sighed dramatically.
“I’m Logan’s friend.
I can’t stand by and let him be deceived like this.
You need to end things with this man before it’s too late.” Her tone was full of forced sincerity, like she was truly pleading with a cheating wife to change her ways.
How tragic.
If only it weren’t all an act.
Selina chuckled softly.
“Miss Hayes, are you trying to discipline me on my husband’s behalf?
That’s odd.
What gives you the right to interfere in my marriage?” Bella’s eyes turned red-rimmed.
“Selina, Logan and I have always been close.
But because of you, I lost him… And now, I can’t bear to see you take him for granted after stealing him away from me.” Selina’s eyes gleamed with amusement.
“Oh?
I stole Logan from you?” She slowly repeated the words, then mockingly gasped.
“Bella, your ability to distort the truth is truly unparalleled.
I’m so impressed.” “You-!” Bella’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears, each drop falling onto the marble floor, pitifully delicate.
Rose, instantly outraged, lashed out.
“Selina!
Did my cousin say anything wrong?!
What do you mean ‘distorting the truth’?
You’re the one who’s unfaithful!
She’s just worried about Mr.
Reid!” “Besides, they grew up together!
Childhood sweethearts!
Of course, she has the right to lecture you!
You should be grateful and-” “She has no such right.” Rose’s rant was abruptly cut off by a voice as cold as ice.
The entire store fell silent.
Everyone instinctively turned to look- And there stood Logan.
His dark gaze was sharp and unreadable, a hint of amusement lingering at the corner of his lips, but the air around him was frigidly oppressive.
“So this is the famous Hayes Family upbringing?” “Truly… eye-opening.”
