- Chapter 148 - Chapter 148 I Am the One in Control
Chapter 148: I Am the One in Control Chapter 148: I Am the One in Control Selina didn’t quite grasp what Gordon meant.
Gordon, at a loss for words, wanted to say more, but Logan had already approached.
“The Hayes Family ran into some trouble,” Logan said casually.
“Bella won’t have time to bother you anymore.” Selina rolled her eyes in secret.
As if Bella could ever intimidate her.
If Bella came at her, she’d beat her down.
If Bella brought reinforcements, she’d take them both out.
But outwardly, Selina let out a soft whimper, feigning distress.
“That’s good to hear.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do if Miss Hayes kept bullying me.
They’re all so mean…” Gordon choked on air, coughing violently.
He wanted to change the subject, but Logan chuckled warmly instead.
“Don’t worry,” Logan said.
“If anyone bullies you again, just tell the bodyguards to handle it.
I own this mall-they’ll listen to whatever you say.” Gordon: “…” Here we go again.
Selina could clearly hold her own, but Logan believed every word she said without question.
If this wasn’t blind devotion, what was?
Gordon was about to argue, but Selina beamed sweetly and batted her lashes.
“Logan, you’re so good to me!” Gordon: “…” He fell silent for two seconds, then sighed.
Maybe he was just too old to understand modern relationships.
Gordon glanced at Logan, studying him carefully.
He frowned slightly.
He didn’t recognize Logan’s face, but if Gavin insisted that this man looked identical to someone from four years ago, then Gordon had to take the matter seriously.
After a moment of thought, Gordon turned to Selina.
“Selina, I left something upstairs.
Can you help me grab it?” Selina nodded easily, not suspecting anything.
“Sure!” As soon as Selina walked away, the gentle light in Gordon’s eyes vanished, replaced by a sharp, scrutinizing gaze as he stared at Logan.
Logan smiled slightly, his posture elegant and composed.
He nodded politely.
“Mr.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
King, you deliberately sent Selina away.
I assume you have something to say to me?” Gordon cleared his throat, suddenly feeling oddly pressured.
He was nearly twenty years older than Logan, but standing in front of him, it felt like the other man held all the control.
Logan’s presence was overwhelming.
Still, Gordon straightened his back, assuming the tone of an elder.
“None of us were informed about Selina’s marriage.” Logan chuckled lightly.
“You can rest assured-I am sincere about her.” “This isn’t about sincerity.” Gordon’s brows furrowed.
“Selina barely knows you.
Why would she marry you?” His voice deepened.
“Let’s not beat around the bush, Mr.
Reid.
You are a man with too many secrets.
You are not suited for someone as pure-hearted as Selina.” Logan brought a hand to his lips, concealing his amusement.
Pure-hearted?
Mr.
King, you might be mistaken about your dear Selina.
But elders always saw younger generations through a biased lens, so Logan let it slide.
Maintaining his usual calm demeanor, Logan said, “Mr.
King, why not speak directly?” Gordon paused, then examined Logan more carefully before asking, “I wanted Selina to marry someone I know inside and out.
Mr.
Reid, forgive my bluntness, but I’ve looked into you, and your history from four years ago is… missing.
That makes me uneasy.” Four years ago?
Logan’s brows arched slightly.
That again.
It seemed like everyone was obsessed with what he had been doing four years ago.
His expression didn’t change as he replied, “I was in City H back then, dealing with some personal matters.
That’s why you couldn’t find anything.” Gordon pressed further.
“Can you elaborate?” Logan’s tone remained polite but firm.
“It involves private matters between the Reid and Carter Families.
I’m afraid I cannot disclose anything.” Gordon’s face darkened slightly.
“Then tell me this-how did you and Selina end up married?
A man of your status, even if pressured by Old Mrs.
Perry to settle down, had countless options.
Selina is… not particularly outstanding.” Logan paused for a moment, then suddenly laughed softly.
“Mr.
King, you severely underestimate Selina.” Not outstanding?
Mrs.
Reid was the most brilliant woman in all of City A’s social circles.
It was just that most people weren’t sharp enough to see it.
Logan spoke casually, “The reason I chose her?
Simply fate.
Mr.
King, she’s extraordinary.” Gordon’s eyelid twitched.
“Fate, huh?
I would’ve thought that a man like you, Mr.
Reid, chose Selina because you knew her from before.” -He was probing.
Was Logan the man from four years ago?
Back then, Selina had been covered in blood, with that man by her side.
If that man was Logan… Logan’s eyes glinted subtly.
“Knew her?
Well, not entirely unfamiliar.
Five years ago, Luna hacked into Reid Group’s main system.
That’s something I remember quite vividly.” Gordon: “…” He had intended to test Logan-only to end up exposing one of Selina’s secrets instead.
He cleared his throat awkwardly.
“I meant… aside from that.
Ahem.
Selina is rather mischievous.
Mr.
Reid truly has an iron grip over City A if even her Luna identity is something you managed to uncover.” Poor Selina.
She worked so hard to keep her secret identity under wraps, only to have her husband strip it away with ease.
Still, Logan claimed no memory of four years ago.
Had Gavin made a mistake?
Logan remained humble and polite.
“Mr.
King overestimates me.” Gordon paused.
He wasn’t even trying to praise him, though?
“Mr.
Reid.” The next moment, Gordon’s aura sharpened, exuding authority.
“I’ll entrust Selina to you-but you must give her absolute freedom.” “I know this girl may have some misconceptions about you, thinking you’re a good person.
But I’m well aware-no one who controls Reid Group could ever be a ‘good’ man.” Logan, however, wasn’t the least bit offended.
He met Gordon’s gaze with unwavering sincerity.
“I am not a good man.
But in front of Selina, I always will be.” Gordon was momentarily stunned.
“Gordon Uncle, you don’t have anything stored upstairs.” Selina suddenly ran back, looking puzzled.
“I couldn’t find anything.” Gordon stiffened slightly.
Of course, he had only made up the excuse to send her away.
Since there was nothing more to uncover, he decided to drop the subject altogether.
With an utterly composed expression, he said, “Oh, I must’ve remembered wrong.” Selina, completely unsuspecting, sighed dramatically.
“Gordon Uncle, you’re not that old yet.
If your memory is already failing, maybe you should see a doctor sooner rather than later?” Gordon almost choked on air.
Not long after, Justin returned.
As they were about to leave, Gordon still looked uneasy.
“Selina, it’s not that I don’t want you to get married, but in a marriage, you can’t always be the one making compromises.
Understand?” Selina blinked in confusion.
Gordon pressed on, “You’re too sincere with people.
That’s not a good thing-it puts you in a passive position.
When dealing with men, you need to keep them at arm’s length.
Play a little hard to get.
That’s how you keep them hooked.” Even though Logan indulged Selina in everything, Gordon couldn’t shake the feeling that his little Selina was being completely devoured.
Selina batted her lashes thoughtfully.
Oh, so Gordon Uncle was trying to teach her how to keep a man wrapped around her finger?
But… she really didn’t think she needed that.
She recalled how Logan had immediately stepped in to deal with Natalia, distanced her from Bella, and constantly sided with her.
So, with unshakable confidence, she smiled brightly and declared: “Don’t worry, Gordon Uncle!
In this marriage, I’m the one in control.
I’ve got the upper hand!”
