Chapter 179: The Punishment for Not Telling the Truth
Selina narrowed her eyes. “Mr. Carter, Logan and I are doing just fine. Save your attempts to sow discord.”
Jacob sighed helplessly. “I’m not trying to create discord. But from the very beginning, wasn’t it Ryan’s uncle you wanted to marry?”
Selina nodded. “That’s right. And that’s why I married Logan.”
Jacob’s voice turned slightly hoarse. “Miss Clark, even now, do you still think you married the right man?”
Selina knew she had made a mistake, but she had never admitted it to herself. Now that Jacob had bluntly pointed it out, she suddenly looked up.
“Mr. Carter, the husband I needed was someone from the Carter Family—someone who could help me reclaim my mother’s inheritance. Whether Logan is related to the Carters by blood or not, he fit that requirement.”
Through what she had gathered from Butler Miller, Jack, Amelia, and Owen, she had more or less pieced together the truth.
“Logan was deliberately switched with Owen as a child by someone with ulterior motives. He was taken in by the Carter Family, and even now, Old Mr. Carter still calls himself his ‘father.’ So, Mr. Carter, what exactly are you trying to say?”
Selina felt she had made herself clear.
She had never regretted marrying Logan. Even if it was a mistake… it was a mistake she was happy to live with.
She and Jacob were complete strangers. Why was he so insistent that she get a divorce just because of a so-called “mix-up”?
Unexpectedly, Jacob let out a cold laugh. “Taken in? Miss Clark, do you really think it’s that simple?”
Selina frowned slightly.
Jacob seemed to realize that saying any more would be pointless. “Let me give you a piece of advice, Miss Clark—Logan has no heart. Loving him will never end well.”
With that, he shot her one last glance and turned to leave.

Luke had been listening in on most of the conversation, and he was instantly outraged.
“Selina, that guy is clearly up to no good! Don’t let him fool you! You and Logan are practically made for each other. He’s just jealous!”
The Carter Family—every single one of them—just couldn’t stand to see others happy!
Selina looked at him, startled. “You think Logan and I are a perfect match?”
Luke felt a pang in his heart. Oh no! Was Selina starting to doubt herself? Did she think she wasn’t good enough for Logan? Was she feeling insecure?
Luke raised his voice. “Of course! You’re the best woman in the world—only you deserve Logan! You and Logan are locked together forever, and I swallowed the key! No one is breaking you two apart!”
Selina paused, deep in thought. “But an hour ago, didn’t you try to give me five million to leave your brother?”
Luke: “…”
This… this was what it meant to dig your own grave.
Selina bid farewell to Old Mr. Carter and left.
As she walked down the street, a massive billboard caught her eye.
Luke let out a surprised gasp. “Hey, that’s the Clark actress I was talking about! Carter Family invited her today, but she bailed on them… Angelica. That name sounds so familiar.”
Selina’s expression darkened, and a cold glint flashed through her eyes.
Angelica Clark!
She was back?!
The next morning, Selina got up and went downstairs, only to find Logan still in the living room.
She glanced at the time in shock—it was already 10:30. Why was Logan still home?!
The man set down the contract he had been reading. “You’re awake? Eat breakfast, then we’ll head out.”
Still groggy from sleep, Selina blinked in confusion. “Head out where?”
Logan’s pale gray eyes held a hint of indulgence. “Didn’t Mrs. Reid say yesterday that she wanted to visit Reid Group?”
Selina instantly snapped awake.
She had casually mentioned wanting to go, and now Logan was actually waiting to take her?
“You—you’re going to be late for work!”
Logan paused for a moment, then gave a meaningful smile. “Mrs. Reid, have you forgotten? The entire Reid Group belongs to me. What’s the harm in being late once in a while?”
“Besides, this doesn’t count as being late. I have official business to handle.”
After finishing breakfast, she followed him to the car. “What business?”
Logan remained silent throughout the drive. Half an hour later, as they approached the towering skyscraper of Reid Group, he suddenly smiled.
“Escorting the lady of Reid Group on an inspection—doesn’t that count as business?”
“Get out of the car, we’re here.”
Logan made no attempt to hide it as he took her hand and led her inside. “Where do you want to go? I’ll go with you.”
Selina wanted to go to the tenth floor, but she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to explain why—after all, she still wasn’t sure if that sudden memory was real or not.
So she shook her head. “I’ll just wander around on my own.”
Logan suddenly narrowed his eyes. “Selina, are you hiding something from me?”
Hearing him call her “Selina” sent a sudden jolt through her heart, leaving it both soft and numb. Her eyes widened in shock. “No, I—mmph!”
Cool lips pressed against hers, cutting off the rest of her words.
Logan was only wearing a dress shirt, and she could clearly feel the firm shape of his chest beneath the fabric. His smooth, toned muscles extended down to his waist, forming a strong and seductive curve.
His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and his lips toyed with hers. Selina felt her mind go blank, her whole body turning weak, her dazed eyes losing their focus. “Mmm…”
Logan studied her intently, his tongue grazing her lips. “This is your punishment for not telling the truth.”
The sensation of his tongue brushing against her lips sent shivers down her spine. She instinctively tried to explain, “I wasn’t—”
But with her dazed expression, flushed cheeks, and kiss-swollen lips, her words carried no weight.
Logan silently stared at her for a moment before lifting her chin once again and kissing her deeply.
This time, the kiss was nothing like before—it was no longer gentle, but wild, like a storm sweeping through her senses. Selina felt like a fragile flower trembling under a torrential downpour, her voice swallowed whole.
His breathing grew heavier, his deep voice raspy against her ear. “Selina, close your eyes.”
She was dazed, and before she could think, her eyes fluttered shut…
“Sir, you have a meeting scheduled for this after—apologies!”
Jack suddenly halted in his tracks, spun around, and left without another word.
That single “apologies” snapped Selina back to reality.
She suddenly remembered where they were—this was Reid Group! Right by the elevator, in a public space where anyone could walk by at any moment!
Her face instantly turned bright red, and she shoved Logan away in a panic. “Mr. Reid, I’ll look around on my own—don’t follow me!”
The warmth in his arms vanished in an instant. Logan let out a deep, amused chuckle.
Mrs. Reid, lips swollen, eyes dazed—it didn’t take much to guess what had just happened.
He simply watched as she stepped into the elevator, not following her, only standing there, lost in thought.
A moment later, the elevator stopped on the tenth floor.
…
Selina’s legs were weak, the tingling sensation still clouding her mind, leaving her completely unable to recover.
As soon as she entered the elevator, she had pressed the tenth-floor button and slowly slid down against the mirrored walls.
Her lips were still slightly sore, and she cupped them with her hand, gritting her teeth.
When did Logan get so good at this?! She was completely defenseless against him!
Just as she was thinking that—ding—the elevator doors slid open.
Selina stepped out, but the moment she looked around, she suddenly froze in place.
