Chapter 211: Getting Closer by Any Means
Selina abruptly stopped in her tracks.
Angelica smiled brightly, holding the ski suit up against herself with a playful tone. “You’re so good to me, let’s go skiing.”
Among the crowd of socialites and heiresses, Angelica had always been seen as elegant and composed. Now showing a softer, more coquettish side, she stunned everyone around.
Some instinctively glanced at Selina. Though no one said anything aloud, their eyes said it all:
— How pitiful. She’s supposed to be Mrs. Reid, yet she clearly can’t compare to Angelica.
— I mean, come on, one is a lifesaver, the other just a woman he married because of family pressure. Who do you think matters more?
— Selina should’ve known better than to expect anything more.
Angelica lowered her head, hiding her smug smile. Selina, are you jealous now? Finally feeling what it’s like to be the one left behind?
She leaned closer to Logan with a faux intimacy. “Logan, I don’t know how to ski… can you teach me?”
Logan responded coolly, “I’ll hire an instructor for you. Also, the ski suit isn’t for you.”
Angelica’s eyes flickered. “Mr. Reid, did you forget our deal? This is the last trip, the final condition. After this vacation, everything between us—those two favors and your life debt—will be done.”
“This is my last chance to act a little spoiled. After this, we won’t even be friends. But no matter what, I saved your life. Doesn’t that mean I deserve this one last wish?”
Logan’s jaw tensed.
Traveling with Angelica and skiing—this was her second condition. And like she said, once this trip ended, so would their ties.
But for that to happen, the trip had to go exactly as she wished.

“…Alright.”
Angelica beamed. “I’ll go change, wait for me here!”
Around them, murmurs of envy and admiration broke out.
“Mr. Reid is going to personally teach Miss Angelica how to ski…”
“So jealous. Clark family’s eldest daughter isn’t even officially Mrs. Reid yet, and she’s already getting this kind of treatment. Imagine when she actually marries him!”
“Look at Selina—her husband’s going skiing with her ‘sister,’ and she’s just left standing there. How embarrassing…”
Soon, Angelica reappeared. “Mr. Reid, what should I do?”
Logan calmly explained the basics, though his eyes drifted toward Selina.
“Just keep your balance and go slow. You’ll be fine on your own.”
Angelica blinked innocently. “Mr. Reid, you’re not coming with me? What if I fall? I’m a total beginner, you’re responsible for me!”
Someone nearby chimed in, “She’s right, Mr. Reid. Beginners like her need guidance, or they’ll crash all over the place.”
Another added, “Come on, Miss Clark likes you! Help her out.”
A third voice laughed, “Don’t be shy, Miss Clark. They say chasing a man is easier than you think—you’ve come this far, don’t stop now!”
“And Mr. Reid, don’t be so cold. You’re breaking her heart!”
Angelica’s cheeks flushed pink. “Don’t listen to them, Mr. Reid. I really just want to learn skiing from you. Don’t worry—once I get the hang of it, I won’t bother you anymore. Then you can spend all the time you want with Selina.”
Logan knew that until he resolved Angelica’s matter, it would continue to be a problem.
He looked at Selina.
Selina was about ready to explode.
She felt lightheaded, like she couldn’t breathe—nauseous, even.
Logan had promised to teach her how to ski. Now the ski suit wasn’t even for her. And he was about to teach the one person she hated most.
He could be close to anyone—anyone—except Angelica.
The more Selina thought about it, the tighter her chest felt—like something was squeezing her heart, making it ache and swell.
She couldn’t take it anymore. Without waiting for Logan to say a word, she turned and stormed toward the villa.
Jacob reached out and grabbed her hand. “Miss Clark, looks like no one’s teaching you to ski anymore.”
Selina was already furious. She snapped her head around and barked, “And what does that have to do with you?!”
Jacob wasn’t fazed by her tone. His voice was light, almost amused.
“Your husband’s off cozying up to another woman, and you’re just going to walk away? That’s surrendering without a fight, don’t you think?”
Selina’s lungs felt like they were about to burst—dizzy, nauseated, overwhelmed. “I just don’t want to see them.”
“Then let me offer a suggestion. How about I teach you how to ski?” Jacob chuckled. “He’s off ignoring you, the very Mrs. Reid, for Angelica. So maybe it’s time you ignored him too. No reason you should be the only one losing out, right?”
Selina shot him a sharp glare.
At that moment, Angelica, fully geared up for skiing, threw her a triumphant, smug glance.
Selina’s fury exploded. She deliberately ignored Logan’s gaze, turned to Jacob, and flashed a dazzling smile. “Sure.”
She rose gracefully. “I’ll go change into my ski gear. Wait here, Mr. Carter.”
A few minutes later, when Selina came back out, she noticed Logan and Angelica were still standing in the same spot.
Logan frowned and stepped toward her. “I’ll teach you.”
Selina took a step back, tone casual and indifferent. “No need. Aren’t you going to teach Angelica? I’ve got Mr. Carter here—I’m sure his skills are just as good, right?”
Jacob smiled, “Well, not quite as good as Logan’s, but keeping you safe won’t be a problem.”
“Then that’s perfect.” Selina turned crisply toward the exit. “Have fun with Angelica. Let’s go, Mr. Carter.”
Logan’s brow furrowed deeper.
Angelica stepped forward with a regretful face. “I’m sorry, Mr. Reid… it’s all my fault. You should go after her. I don’t want to come between you two. We can forget about the second condition…”
But before she could finish, Selina had already gotten into the villa’s car and headed toward the ski slope.
Logan looked away. “She’s gone. Miss Clark, what else do you need help with?”
Angelica bit her lip, frustrated by his cool tone, but her mood lifted when she remembered she had still achieved her goal today.
“Maybe I won’t know until I try. Mr. Reid, let’s go to the slope too—maybe we’ll catch up to my little sister.”
…
In the car.
Selina stared silently out the window.
Jacob glanced over. “Miss Clark, you were pretty sharp-tongued back there. Why so quiet now?”
Selina’s expression didn’t change. “Mr. Carter, can you really ski?”
“Of course. I even won second place in a competition abroad,” Jacob said, completely unbothered by his connection to Logan.
“The first-place winner that year? Logan. So when I say I’m just slightly behind him, I mean it. But for teaching you? I’m more than qualified.”
Then, with a pointed glance, he added, “Take a look behind us—Mr. Reid and Angelica are on their way.”
