Chapter 219: Covering for Her
Logan gave her a calm glance. “Sure.”
Angelica’s expression lit up with excitement. “Then Logan—”
“The claim that the ski instructor tried to assault you is just your side of the story. I won’t jump to conclusions until we find him.”
He stepped away from the crowd and took Selina’s hand. “Let’s go.”
Amanda called out loudly, “Mr. Reid, wait! It hasn’t been proven that Mrs. Reid isn’t involved—she can’t leave!”
Angelica pretended to restrain her. “Amanda…”
Amanda turned and said firmly, “Angelica, I know you trust Selina, but let’s not forget—there’s a conflict of interest here. You’re both contenders for the Clark Group inheritance. Who’s to say she wouldn’t do something to get rid of you? We shouldn’t assume the worst of others, but we must always be cautious!”
Luke nearly laughed out loud. Angelica being the victim? That was rich. She’d schemed against more people than anyone could count.
Just then, Amanda’s phone rang. She answered it with a self-righteous air and said, “Angelica, the ski instructor has been caught. If Mrs. Reid really ordered this, we’ll know soon enough.”
She then looked to Selina. “Mrs. Reid, if you didn’t do this, I’m sure you’d want to stay and clear your name, wouldn’t you?”
The implication was clear: if Selina left now, she was guilty.
Right on cue, the ski instructor’s panicked voice echoed from outside the door.
“Don’t call the cops, please! I didn’t mean to—I was paid a million to humiliate Angelica and film a video. I was just following orders!”
Angelica put on her best picture of noble suffering. “Even if someone paid him, I believe it wasn’t Selina. But since we’re here, let’s bring him in.”
Soon, the ski instructor was dragged into the hotel lobby. He dropped to his knees, frantically begging. “Miss Clark, I was wrong. I was forced! That person threatened me. If I didn’t do it, I’d lose my job…”

Angelica said sternly, “You took the money. Spare me the sob story—I’ll see to it that you’re handed over to the police.”
“No! Please!”
The instructor panicked even more, eyes darting around the lobby until they landed on Selina like a lifeline. Still on his knees, he scrambled toward her.
“Miss Selina, please save me! My family is struggling—I can’t go to jail! You have to help me! I did everything for you!”
The entire lobby went dead silent.
Someone murmured in disbelief, “Did he just ask Selina for help?”
“He said… he did it all for Selina?”
Selina narrowed her eyes. “Do I even know you?”
The instructor looked utterly shocked. “You don’t know me? But I… I get it now!”
He suddenly wailed louder. “Miss Selina, now that things have gone south, you’re throwing me under the bus? You’re the one who told me to go after Angelica, and now you act like you’ve never met me? How could you be so heartless?!”
Gasps filled the room.
“You… you’re saying it was Selina who hired you?”
Angelica covered her mouth in shock. “No, that can’t be! He must be trying to drag someone else down with him!”
“Angelica, even now you’re still defending Selina? After what he just said?!”
Amanda turned to the instructor and said urgently, “Tell us everything. If you can reveal who really gave the orders, I’ll make sure you don’t go to jail!”
The ski instructor quickly spoke up. “Miss Selina said the reason she wanted to teach Miss Clark a lesson was because this morning, Miss Clark falsely accused her of being a homewrecker. She was furious!”
“She… she said that if someone dared to slander her like that, they should be ready to die for it! I’m telling the truth! I hadn’t even arrived at the resort when the breakfast incident happened—everything I know, Miss Selina told me herself!”
The crowd exchanged uncertain glances.
“That ski instructor did only arrive after breakfast…”
“So that means someone must’ve deliberately told him what happened this morning?”
“I’m starting to think it really could’ve been Mrs. Reid. I mean, she was humiliated out of nowhere this morning—called a homewrecker and even slapped. Wanting revenge is understandable.”
“But even so, this is way too much! Miss Clark didn’t know the full story this morning. And okay, Selina was insulted—big deal. That doesn’t justify hiring someone to assault Angelica and leave her in a snow pit!”
“What if Mr. Reid hadn’t found her in time? She could’ve frozen to death! Being angry doesn’t mean you can risk someone’s life!”
Amanda’s eyes gleamed with excitement. “Mrs. Reid, do you have anything to say? If you want to prove your innocence, you’ll have to give everyone a reason to believe you.”
Logan’s eyes lifted coldly, and the glare was so sharp Amanda stumbled back in fear.
Selina gave a cold laugh, looking down at the instructor. “You say I gave you orders. Then tell me—how did I contact you? What account did I use to send you the money?”
The ski instructor’s face twitched, eyes darting around. “Y-You used someone else’s account to wire the money. You’re smart, Miss Selina—you wouldn’t leave behind such obvious evidence.”
Selina narrowed her eyes. “So you have no proof?”
“I-I…” The instructor panicked, at a complete loss, and instinctively looked toward Angelica.
Amanda gave him a subtle signal, and the ski instructor suddenly seemed to have a revelation.
“Right! Around ten this morning, Miss Selina came to find me behind the mountain. Angelica was still skiing then, and we met in secret!”
Ten in the morning?
Someone mumbled, “Now that you mention it… I didn’t see Mrs. Reid around at that time. She did disappear for a bit.”
“Mr. Reid, was Mrs. Reid with you around ten?” another asked.
Amanda jumped on the opportunity. “Mr. Reid, Angelica is your savior. She just wants the truth. Even if Mrs. Reid was behind this, Angelica wouldn’t blame her. Please—just answer!”
Selina’s lips tightened.
At ten, she had indeed stepped away without telling Logan—she’d gone to the changing room. But that area didn’t have surveillance cameras, and now that the instructor had claimed “ten o’clock,” anything Selina said would sound like denial.
“She wasn’t with me at ten,” Logan said, his voice low.
All eyes turned to him. Angelica’s eyes lit up with anticipation.
But Logan continued calmly, “I asked Selina to go to the changing room to put on another layer. It wasn’t enough time for her to reach the back of the mountain.”
The room fell silent again.
Selina blinked, realizing belatedly—Logan was covering for her!
Amanda’s face changed, her forced smile starting to crack. “Mr. Reid, I know you care about Mrs. Reid, but this is serious. You can’t lie to protect her. Don’t you see how much it would hurt Angelica? Angelica—”
“Ms. Amanda,” Logan interrupted coolly, “do you really think I have a reason to lie?”
