Chapter 226: The Celebrity Halo
Logan stood outside the door for quite a while before letting out a helpless laugh.
Well, this was already a good outcome for the night. Even if the little one was softening, it would take time.
He returned downstairs, calmly finished the steak, washed the tableware, and quietly left the villa—without waking anyone.
…
The next morning, Selina got up early, intending to head downstairs and clean up the tableware from last night before Damien noticed. Otherwise, he’d definitely start asking questions.
But when she got to the kitchen, Mrs. Cole was already tidying up.
Selina froze. “Mrs. Cole… did you clean up the tableware from last night?”
Damien looked up with interest.
Mrs. Cole blinked in confusion. “Miss, were there still tableware left over last night? I’m pretty sure I cleared everything.”
Selina, feeling the pressure of Damien’s stare, forced herself to ask, “You didn’t see any unwashed dishes when you got here this morning?”
Mrs. Cole shook her head. “Of course not. I always clean everything up. But the steaks in the fridge are gone.”
Damien set down his newspaper with a knowing smile. “I distinctly remember we had enough for two steaks last night. What happened—did someone break in just to steal our food?”
Mrs. Cole gasped. “Oh dear! Should we check the security cameras? What kind of thief comes in just to eat steak?!”
Selina: “…”
If they checked the footage, Logan’s visit would be exposed!

She quickly stopped them. “No need! I ate the steak last night…”
Mrs. Cole widened her eyes. “Miss, you washed the dishes yourself after eating? Oh my, you could’ve just left them for me.”
Selina gave a sheepish chuckle. “Yeah, I forgot if I washed them or not, so I thought I’d ask you.”
Damien rested his chin on his palm, clearly amused. “But that was two steaks… You ate all of that by yourself?”
Selina cleared her throat. “I was hungry, okay?! Is that a crime?!”
“It’s fine,” Damien said with a smirk. “I just thought some mystery man might’ve helped you out. Glad to know that’s not the case.”
Selina: “…”
She was sure Damien knew Logan had been there the moment he said “mystery man”!
He casually continued, “Mrs. Cole, go buy some more steak. We’re having it for breakfast. Since Selina loves it so much, she should eat more.”
Mrs. Cole beamed. “Yes, sir. I’ll head out now!”
Selina wanted to protest, but if she said no, Damien would just find other ways to tease her. So she forced a smile. “Sure. I love it.”
By the end of breakfast, Selina was sure she didn’t want to see another steak for at least a month.
She had class at 9 a.m., so it was the perfect time to head out.
Just as she was about to leave, her phone rang.
“Professor Green, is something wrong?”
Her previous advisor, Professor White, had already been dismissed. Her current advisor, Professor Green, was a gentle, understanding teacher.
But today, Green sounded weary. “Selina… you’ve seen the news, haven’t you?”
Selina narrowed her eyes.
“About you and Angelica… The school believes you’re not that kind of person—this has to be a misunderstanding. But Angelica’s fans are demanding your expulsion.”
“They’ve even gotten onto campus, saying they want to ‘teach you a lesson’ if you show up… The Student Affairs Office wants to wait until things calm down before you return to class.”
Selina’s tone went cold. “Angelica’s fans showed up at school? Did they bother any of the other students?”
Professor Green sighed. “Of course they did. The school’s been trying to remove them, but there are so many. These obsessed fans have been spray-painting Angelica’s name on walls, confessing their love all over campus, hanging banners on the track field… Anyone who doesn’t like Angelica is getting harassed.”
“The students even called the police, but it didn’t help. They’re absolutely miserable. That’s why the Student Affairs Office thinks that if you just stay away from campus for a while, those fans might give up and leave. Selina, I’m sorry for the trouble…”
“I understand,” Selina said calmly. “I’ll take a leave of absence for now, but don’t worry, the truth will come out soon.”
After hanging up, her expression turned colder.
A big celebrity, huh? Just because she has a huge fanbase, she thinks she can twist the truth and frame others at will—knowing full well her fans will charge ahead for her.
Selina could tolerate Angelica going head-to-head with her. But dragging innocent students into this?
Her phone rang again—it was from one of her business partners.
“Miss Clark, I’m sorry, but we do care a lot about the integrity of the designers we work with. With this kind of controversy, your work just won’t sell…”
“Miss Clark, about that project we discussed… it might not be a good fit anymore.”
“It’s not that we’re looking down on you, it’s just… Angelica’s fanbase is huge. We really can’t afford to offend her.”
“Honestly, I’m being polite. Have you seen the comments online? People are literally telling you to die. You crossed a celebrity—just accept it.”
The calls came one after another, as if they had been planned. Selina listened and hung up, one by one, expression calm. After the last one, she blinked slowly and turned to Damien.
“Big brother, is the video restored yet?”
Damien chuckled, “Of course.”
Selina nodded. “Angelica’s at the hospital, right? After causing such a public storm and dragging me through the mud, she’s definitely going to strike while the iron’s hot.”
Damien said, “Selina, there are many ways to deal with Angelica. You don’t have to go in person. She loves using fame in the entertainment world to bully you—but my fame can crush hers.”
Selina shook her head. “Big brother, the Clark Family has always been my knot to untie. I don’t want to rely on anyone else’s hands.”
Damien didn’t argue.
Just as Selina was heading out, her phone rang again. James’s falsely kind voice came through.
“Selina, even if Angelica isn’t my biological daughter, you can’t treat her like this!”
“We all know what happened. If you’ve got time, come to the hospital and apologize. Angelica’s got a good temper—she won’t hold it against you.”
A wave of pure disgust surged up in Selina’s chest.
A disgusting father. Disgusting family. Disgusting Angelica.
Her voice turned ice-cold. “Apologize?”
Before James could reply, Selina laughed. “Sure. Wait for me at the hospital. I’ll be right there.”
…
At the hospital, James hung up and sighed. “Alright, Angelica, Selina agreed to come apologize. You’re sisters—try to get along from now on.”
Angelica smiled graciously. “Don’t worry, Uncle Clark.”
Then she turned to the reporters nearby, putting on a gentle, selfless expression. “Selina will be here soon to apologize. I’d appreciate it if you’d livestream it. We’re family—once she apologizes, that’ll be enough. This whole thing has already gotten out of hand.”
The reporters lit up with excitement.
Selina was coming to apologize… Now that was breaking news!
Five minutes later, another wave of hashtags hit Twitter’s trending list:

Every post painting Selina as the villain.
Selina stood at the entrance of the hospital and scoffed.
Oh, they want to call her vicious?
Fine then. She’d show them what vicious really looked like.
