Chapter 229: The Truth Doesn’t Matter
Just as Selina finished speaking, a nearby nurse burst out angrily:
“You’re the eldest daughter of the Clark Family. Isn’t it obvious? Some people are just after your title! If nothing had happened to you, you’d always be the heiress—and she’d always be the outsider. But if you went to jail, she, as the ‘victim,’ would have to be compensated by the Clark Family. And how would they do that? By handing her your title, of course!”
“She’s not even related to the Clark Family by blood, and she still dared to covet your position!”
“No wonder—she was brought in by a mistress. Rotten to the core, just like her mother!”
“So Angelica the celebrity isn’t as innocent as she looks.”
The expressions in the room instantly turned ugly.
Angelica looked like she’d seen a ghost, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak.
Bitch. Bitch! She should’ve finished her off four years ago! Now what? What the hell was she supposed to do now?!
Angelica snapped her head toward Amanda, her eyes flashing. Then she suddenly put on a shocked and heartbroken expression:
“Amanda! What… what did you do? You were the one who planned this with the ski coach?!”
Amanda realized instantly—Angelica was throwing her under the bus.
But what choice did she have? Her entire career was tied to Angelica. Gritting her teeth, she burst into tears.
“Angelica, I’m so sorry! I just wanted to teach Selina a lesson. I never thought it would hurt you too! It’s all my fault…”
Angelica covered her mouth and began crying in grief.
“Amanda, how could you be so foolish?! Selina is my sister. Even if you had issues with her, how could you go this far? You nearly landed her in jail and almost got me killed too! I… I can’t let you be my agent anymore!”

Amanda slapped herself twice. “Yes, yes, it’s all my fault…”
Everyone looked around at each other, stunned.
So Angelica knew nothing about this? Amanda just went after Selina out of spite?
Angelica turned tearfully to Selina. “Selina, on behalf of Amanda, I apologize. Don’t worry—something like this will never happen again.”
Selina let out a cold laugh. “Done with your performance?”
Angelica’s expression froze, tears clinging to her lashes.
James, hearing the public’s judgment of the Clark Family, felt utterly disgusted. This daughter of his was nothing but a curse.
Angelica was part of the family, but Selina? She was meant to sacrifice everything for the Clark name—how could she not understand that?
James slammed the table with rage. “Enough! This ends now! Stop bullying Angelica!”
Angelica quickly shrank back behind him in fear.
Selina’s voice turned icy. “End it? Dad, because of Angelica and Amanda’s schemes, I had to take a leave from school, I lost business deals, got harassed by fans, almost went to jail… Now that the truth is out, you want me to let it go with a simple ‘enough’?”
James’s face turned red as he snapped, “What more do you want? Angelica should kneel to you or something?! Why can’t you just let it go—what’s the point in being so unforgiving?”
Angelica’s fans chimed in angrily:
“Exactly! You’re going too far, Selina. Making Angelica suffer is already wrong!”
“You should be the one on your knees! If you hadn’t pissed off Amanda, none of this would’ve happened. Angelica got hurt because of you!”
“It was just a misunderstanding. Angelica targeted you? That’s an honor! Why are you being so petty?”
“You’re just rotten to the core! Poor Angelica, having to deal with a sister like you!”
Selina’s eyes grew colder and colder.
So the perpetrators did nothing wrong—the mistake was hers for being in their way? Angelica was blameless, and she was supposed to give up everything without protest?
James, now emboldened, put on his fake fatherly face and spoke with false gentleness:
“Enough, Selina. Why blame Angelica? You didn’t even go to jail. Mr. Reid is still here—he came to speak with Angelica about something important. Don’t bother him with your little personal drama.”
Selina let out a cold laugh, her eyes falling on Logan.
“Oh? I’m curious too—what kind of ‘important business’ did Mr. Reid come to discuss with Angelica?”
Logan narrowed his eyes, silently studying the Clark Family.
He had always assumed Angelica’s relationship with the Clarks was distant—after all, back when that girl saved him, she had asked why he didn’t go home even though he was hurt.
He had replied: “That place doesn’t feel like home.”
And the girl had looked quietly heartbroken and said, “Then we’re the same. I don’t have a home either.”
Angelica was the stepdaughter of the Clark Family. It was true the family had never felt like hers…
But seeing them today—
“Mr. Reid came to discuss Angelica’s birthday, of course!”
James, seeing Logan remain silent, took a gamble and chimed in enthusiastically:
“Mr. Reid, Angelica just mentioned that her birthday is next week and she’s sure you’ll attend. Surely, that’s what brought you here, right?”
Angelica flushed coyly.
“Logan, I just returned to the country and plan to host a birthday party. Uncle Clark has already agreed—the venue will be at the Clark family estate. Will you come? Please?”
Selina stiffened. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she stared at Logan.
So… that’s it? That’s how this ends?
Angelica schemed to frame her, and because she didn’t end up in jail, they all just wanted to pretend it never happened?
Logan had promised—he said he would never meet Angelica again. But here he was.
Selina felt her chest tighten. Suddenly, she stood up and walked straight toward the door.
The live stream camera followed her every move, and everyone in the room turned to watch.
Angelica’s eyes twinkled as she feigned concern: “Selina’s probably just upset.”
James quickly tried to console her.
“Angelica, you’re still recovering—don’t worry about her! It’s just a small matter. So dramatic, that girl. Don’t you agree, Mr. Reid?”
The live chat exploded with frenzied excitement.
[We get that Amanda was wrong, but that had nothing to do with Angelica. Selina’s just jealous.]
[Selina tried to flirt with Mr. Reid just now—LOL, he totally ignored her!]
[Obviously! Mr. Reid is Angelica’s Prince Charming. Who does Selina think she is, trying to compete? He’s coming to her birthday—that says everything!]
Everyone looked at Logan, full of anticipation.
Logan gave Angelica a glance.
“A small matter?”
Angelica’s face visibly stiffened. A cold unease crept up her spine.
Then Logan’s voice dropped—icy and cutting: “I don’t consider intentional framing and false accusations to be ‘small matters,’ Mr. Clark.”
James flinched as if struck.
Logan fixed him with a sharp look.
“If I remember correctly, Selina is your biological daughter, isn’t she? Mr. Clark, showing such blatant favoritism—aren’t you worried what others might say?”
James’s throat tightened. His legs began to tremble.
What the hell is going on…
Wasn’t Mr. Reid supposed to favor Angelica above all?
Wasn’t Selina on the verge of being divorced?
Of course he should be siding with Angelica!
“Then Mr. Reid, what do you propose—”
Logan cut him off coolly.
“Since everyone here insists Amanda was solely responsible… then let her take responsibility.”
He turned to Angelica.
“Miss Angelica, I assume you have no objection?”
A wave of fear surged in Angelica’s chest.
What does Logan mean by that?
What exactly does he want Amanda to take responsibility for…?
