Chapter 233: His Plan
Jacob paused at the door, his voice uncertain. “Logan?”
Selina immediately tried to push him away, but Logan held her tightly by the waist and gave her lips a sharp, punishing bite.
She whimpered, feeling like she might explode.
Logan responded lazily, “Mr. Carter, do us a favor and leave.”
Jacob pressed, “Is Selina in there? I’m taking her with me.”
Logan suddenly let out a soft laugh, full of meaning. “Mr. Carter, you must be very bored—interfering in matters between husband and wife?”
Silence fell on both sides of the door.
Selina nearly blacked out.
Does Logan have no shame?! Even if he didn’t, she still did!
She took several deep breaths, forcing herself to sound calm. “Mr. Carter, I’ll be out in just a moment. No need to worry.”
Only then did Jacob give a slight nod. “Alright then. I’ll head back. Miss Clark, if you need anything, just call.”
After a long pause, the sound outside disappeared. Selina’s legs gave out and she collapsed into Logan’s arms.
Logan looked down at her, cool and unbothered. “Mrs. Reid, tell me… do you think Jacob has any idea what we were doing just now?”
Selina’s flushed cheeks had barely calmed down—then immediately flared red again.
No one had ever told her that the head of the Reid family was this shameless!

“But even if he does,” Logan said offhandedly, “what’s the problem? I haven’t seen Mrs. Reid in a while. Got carried away. I’m sure he’ll understand.”
Selina’s rationality came crashing back. She shoved him away, face burning. “I’m going back to the party. Do whatever you want!”
She bolted for the door like there were wild animals chasing her.
Logan chuckled softly. “Mrs. Reid… you might want to check the mirror first.”
Selina blinked. There just so happened to be a full-length mirror near the door. She glanced at it instinctively—
Her face was flushed, eyes hazy, lips swollen with a tiny red mark—anyone who saw her would instantly know what had just happened.
There’s no way she could walk out like this!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She turned and shot Logan a murderous glare.
But she didn’t realize—right after being kissed, her gaze had no real bite to it. It only made her look more alluring.
Logan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His voice came out hoarse. “Selina, we need to talk.”
Selina was busy applying lip gloss to cover the mark. At his words, a wave of frustration bubbled up inside her.
“What’s there to talk about? I know you lied to me. You’re not even the heir to the Carter family!”
Logan looked at her calmly. “Mrs. Reid, I admit I didn’t come to you with pure intentions at first. But I never meant to hurt you.”
Selina glared at him.
He walked up behind her and gently placed his fingers on the nape of her neck.
“Whatever you want, I’ll help you get it. Whatever Jacob can do—I can do too. Selina, I told you when we got married… ‘divorce’ isn’t in my vocabulary.”
Selina reflexively blurted out, “What about Angelica—”
“I promised her two things. When did I ever say I’d divorce you and marry her?”
Selina choked up.
Thinking back… he really hadn’t said that.
Everything about him divorcing her and marrying Angelica came from Angelica’s mouth.
Her voice softened, laced with a twinge of vulnerability she didn’t even realize was there. “Then why did you celebrate her birthday?”
“Her birthday?”
To her surprise, Logan suddenly smiled. “Mrs. Reid… are you sure I was celebrating Angelica’s birthday?”
Selina gritted her teeth. “It’s the end of December. Isn’t that her birthday? Everyone knows you promised to celebrate it with her—and even go to the Clark estate!”
Logan lowered his eyes. “I am going to the Clark estate. And I am celebrating someone’s birthday that day. But who ever said… it was Angelica’s?”
Who ever said it was Angelica?
If not Angelica… then who else could it be?
A thought suddenly surfaced in Selina’s mind—
Before she could react, the man beside her spoke in a slow, deliberate tone.
“Isn’t December 29th your birthday too?”
“Selina, you really think I’d skip your birthday just to celebrate Angelica’s?”
…
The whole world seemed to quiet around her. In her head, it felt like fireworks were going off—crackling, bursting—
“I… You…”
“You and Angelica were born on the same day, yet the Clark family only throws a party for her. Of course I’m going to show up and set things right.”
Logan’s voice stayed calm and steady.
“The Clark family treats Angelica like she’s gold. On that day, I’m going to tell everyone… you’re the one who’s mine.”
That sentence hit too hard.
Selina clutched her chest—her heart felt like it was about to burst out of her ribs.
No. Get it together. Stay calm.
“Anyone can say sweet things. How do I know you actually mean them?”
Logan chuckled. “Then, Mrs. Reid… would you give me a chance to prove it to you?”
Selina bit her lip. She didn’t want to give in so easily.
But Logan didn’t push. He just grabbed a lip gloss from the side and dabbed it gently on her lips. “Let’s go back.”
His fingertips brushed across her mouth, making Selina flush with a mix of embarrassment and frustration. She spun on her heel and bolted out the door.
When she returned to the banquet hall, someone casually commented, “Miss Clark’s finally back! Jacob was saying if you didn’t return soon, he was going to call the cops. Haha, what danger could there be in a ballroom?”
Selina’s vision swirled, and then she locked eyes with Jacob, whose look was… loaded. She swallowed hard. “Yeah… no danger at all.”
“Miss Clark, what happened to your lips?” someone suddenly gasped. “They’re swollen—and cut!”
In an instant, all eyes turned to her.
Selina mentally cursed Logan a hundred times.
This is bad. What if they figure it out…
They’d all been attending the party up front, while she had been… in the back with Logan.
If word got out…
“It’s nothing. Miss Clark ran into a creep earlier,” Jacob said slowly, jumping in at just the right time. “They struggled a bit and she hit her mouth on the door.”
Selina let out a silent sigh of relief.
She hadn’t expected Mr. Carter himself to cover for her.
But the young men around them looked furious.
“What?! What kind of security does the GM Building have—letting creeps in like that?! Miss Clark wasn’t hurt, was she?”
“We should call the police. These thugs are getting way too bold these days!”
Jacob smiled faintly. “Don’t worry. I already sent the guy packing. I don’t think Miss Clark will have any more trouble in the future. Isn’t that right, Miss Clark?”
Selina had no choice but to go along. “…Right.”
The crowd boiled with outrage.
“Disgusting! Scumbags think they can take liberties just because Miss Clark is beautiful. Shameless!”
“Exactly! Miss Clark is like a goddess—who the hell do those pervs think they are?! If I ever find out who it was, I’d beat the crap out of him!”
Right at that moment, Logan walked back into the banquet hall…
And those two sentences were the first things he heard.
As the so-called “perv” himself, Logan: “…”
