Chapter 236: I’ll Give You a Surprise
Angelica stepped into the elevator, heart practically bubbling with sweetness.
Most people had to book an appointment just to see Mr. Reid—but her? She just had to say her name and someone personally escorted her up.
That sense of privilege calmed her nerves and boosted her confidence.
Standing in front of the office door, she smoothed her hair, flashed a self-satisfied smile, and knocked gently.
“Logan, may I come in?”
…
Meanwhile, inside the office—
Selina blinked, eyes scanning the room as if looking for… a hiding spot.
Logan narrowed his eyes. “What are you looking for, Mrs. Reid?”
Selina lowered her voice. “A place to give you and Angelica some private time. Aren’t I the most thoughtful wife ever?”
Clearly, Angelica was here for something, and if Selina was in the room, she might not say it.
Curiosity got the better of her—she was dying to know what Angelica wanted, so she decided she’d just hide and eavesdrop.
Logan saw through her little plan instantly.
“Wouldn’t it be better for Angelica to see you right beside me? Mark your territory, so to speak.”
Selina put on a fake innocent smile. “Oh come on, I’m not that petty. I trust Mr. Reid to behave like a proper married man.”

Outside the door, Angelica was getting impatient.
“Logan? Are you in there?”
Logan looked at Selina pacing circles like a cartoon character.
He smirked. “Come in.”
Selina froze in place.
Wait—she hadn’t picked a hiding spot yet!
She heard the door handle turn—Angelica was coming in!
Panicked, Selina darted under Logan’s desk at the last second.
Luckily, the desk was big enough to hide two people comfortably.
Logan glanced down at the woman now curled up at his feet.
His Adam’s apple bobbed, voice hoarse. “Se—”
“Shhh!” Selina shot him a mischievous look, her eyes practically spelling out: Let the drama begin.
Angelica walked in, blushing when she thought Logan had just called her.
“Logan, I’m sorry to disturb you.”
Logan’s face was already calm and unreadable. “What do you need?”
Angelica was feeling confident, thinking her “VIP treatment” meant she was special to him.
“Logan, my birthday is in five days. You’re really coming… right?”
Logan’s tone was icy. “If I’m not welcome, I won’t go.”
“No, no! That’s not what I meant. I just…”
Angelica gave a troubled look.
“It’s just that… you probably don’t know, but Selina and I share the same birthday. If you come, I’m afraid she might get upset.”
Logan raised an eyebrow and glanced under the desk.
Selina blinked and gave him a say-something look.
He answered casually, “I already said I’d go to the Clark estate. I keep my word.”
Angelica let out a soft sigh of relief, confidence rising.
“That’s great… if Selina threw a tantrum, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Logan’s patience was clearly wearing thin.
“Anything else?”
Angelica hesitated. There was one thing she really wanted to know.
She didn’t often get time alone with Logan, and the mood felt right. Her heart raced as she asked—
“Logan, sorry if this is too forward, but… is it true what people are saying online? That you and Selina are getting a divorce?”
Logan’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
Under the desk, Selina’s eyes lit up.
Now this is gossip.
She poked Logan’s leg and mouthed silently: Say it’s true!
Logan looked away, voice flat. “…Yeah.”
Angelica’s face lit up. She could barely hide her excitement. “Really?!”
Logan’s voice dropped, full of pressure.
“That makes you happy?”
Angelica suddenly realized she was showing too much and quickly switched to her fake sweet smile.
“No, that’s not what I meant. I’m just… happy for you, Logan.”
“You might not know this, but Selina’s always been popular with boys—since she was a kid. Even though she had a fiancé, men were constantly chasing after her. She was good at juggling them, playing coy, always keeping things just ambiguous enough.”
Angelica sighed.
“I guess it’s my fault too. I should’ve stopped Uncle Clark back then from sending her to the countryside. She had no discipline there, no one to guide her. She picked up bad habits, didn’t focus on school, just chased after men for money and status. Honestly, I think the only reason she’s with you… is for your wealth.”
Selina was stunned.
Thank god she was hiding under the desk—if she hadn’t been, she’d have missed this bombshell of a speech!
She flirted with men? Didn’t study? Gold-digger behavior?!
Logan’s gaze turned icy. Selina quickly grabbed his hand and gave him a wink, mouthing: Let her keep talking.
Angelica paused, sensing something was off.
“Logan… why do you keep looking under your desk?”
Logan lifted his eyes coolly. “Keep going.”
Feeling encouraged—no idea why—Angelica grew even bolder.
“Logan, I’m not like her. I don’t need money, so when I fall for someone, it’s never for what they have.”
“The moment I saved you four years ago… I already loved you deeply.”
Her cheeks flushed as she bit her lip, bashful.
“I didn’t know your identity back then, but I could tell you were someone powerful. I didn’t feel worthy of you, so I went overseas to better myself.”
“All these years, I never let another man near me. My heart was always with you. Now that I’ve built something of my own, I came back—because I want to stand beside you.”
From the second Angelica started talking, Selina had hit record on her phone.
Angelica, seeing that Logan wasn’t stopping her, got even more excited.
“But when I came back, I found out you married Selina. And she’s my sister—I couldn’t be the mistress. So I gave up my feelings.”
Her eyes sparkled with hope.
“But now… you and Selina are about to divorce. I can’t help myself anymore…”
“Logan… is there a chance—any chance—that I could be the one by your side?”
It was a textbook sweet but shady confession, full of subtle digs at Selina to make herself look better.
If she weren’t trying to stay hidden, Selina honestly felt like applauding her.
She looked up, curious to see how Logan would respond.
But to her surprise, Logan didn’t even glance at Angelica.
His cold gaze stayed low—focused entirely on Selina under the desk.
Angelica, flustered by the silence, pressed him.
“Logan… did you hear me?”
“You keep looking under your desk. Did something fall? I can help you look—”
Selina’s eyes widened in panic.
No way—Angelica can’t see me here!
She pinched Logan’s hand hard.
Logan replied, voice casual, “I heard you. Stay right there.”
Angelica froze in place, giving a delicate smile.
“Then… Logan…”
“We’ll talk about this later,” he said evenly, his tone vague, giving nothing away.
“But,” Logan added, “on your birthday… I’ll give you a surprise.”
