Chapter 239: A Thief in Another’s Nest
At noon, Selina finally woke up slowly.
Her whole body ached. She tried to get up—only to collapse back into the bed, completely drained of energy.
…”Collecting a little interest,” huh?
Logan definitely collected way too much.
She sat on the bed, furious but helpless. After nearly half an hour of recovery, she finally managed to drag herself up and go wash up.
The birthday banquet was scheduled for the afternoon. As she walked a few steps, she realized she’d already been medicated down there. Her face turned bright red instantly, her expression indescribable—somewhere between embarrassment and murder.
How dare he! Logan was out of control! She was never letting him touch her again!
“Ma’am, lunch is ready. Would you like to eat now or later?”
Selina thought about having to head to the Clark Family estate soon. “Now.”
At 1 p.m., she got in the car and headed for the Clark Family.
Outside the estate, a crowd had already gathered. Let’s be honest—on their own, the Clark Family couldn’t attract this kind of elite turnout. Most people showed up purely because Logan Reid was rumored to be attending.
The fireworks and drone show from the night before had already gone viral. Angelica’s fans were losing their minds:
[Who still thinks Angelica and Mr. Reid are just “friends”? Would a friend go all out like this for your birthday?]
[He said, “Every birthday from now on, I’ll be with you”—hello?! That’s husband material!]
[Praying for Mr. Reid and Angelica to get married soon!]

Some people were skeptical though:
[Are we sure that whole thing was for Angelica?]
[29th December, last name Clark, extravagant celebration—who else but Angelica? It can’t be Selina, right?]
[Definitely Angelica. Don’t overthink it. She didn’t deny it, did she?]
At the party—
Guests were buzzing.
“Did you see the drone and fireworks show last night? I was blown away. Mr. Reid is so romantic!”
“He’s coming to the birthday banquet today too. It’s gotta be getting serious between them, right?”
“Honestly, who else but Mrs. Reid would deserve that kind of effort from him?”
As Selina walked up to the estate, she spotted a group of fans holding banners and bouquets for Angelica.
Inside, Angelica stood in the center like the star of the show, surrounded by admirers.
“Angelica, was that insane drone and fireworks display planned with you in advance?”
Angelica gave a shy, modest smile. “Not exactly… Logan did mention something, but I didn’t realize what he meant. He said he’d surprise me on my birthday.”
“Oh my god, I’m so jealous! That’s the kind of surprise dreams are made of. He treats you so well!”
“Angelica, when you become Mrs. Reid, don’t forget about us!”
Wearing a high-end designer gown, Angelica smiled sweetly, her eyes gleaming with vanity and greed.
Even she hadn’t expected Logan’s “surprise” to be this grand and this sudden.
An hour-long fireworks and drone show. Digital birthday messages plastered all over the city.
Her Twitter followers had jumped by over two million overnight. Luxury brands were lining up to work with her. Even the rich girls who used to mock her for being a “stepdaughter” were now falling over themselves to suck up.
Spotting Selina on the edge of the crowd, Angelica’s eyes flashed. She called out sweetly,
“Selina! You’re here. Did you see the fireworks last night? Sorry… Logan only planned it for me. You’re not upset, are you?”
Selina glanced at her with zero emotion.
“Why would I be upset?”
Angelica was convinced she was upset.
After all, her husband skipped celebrating her birthday… to throw a lavish celebration for another woman. Who wouldn’t be furious?
Selina was clearly just pretending to be calm.
Thinking of this, Angelica waved off the people around her, her tone turning smug.
“Selina, Logan lit fireworks for me that lasted forever, sent up hundreds of drones. No one in all of City A has ever had that kind of treatment. He clearly adores me. You’re really not jealous?”
“I mean… it’s your birthday too, and no one remembered. I honestly feel bad for you.”
Selina nearly gagged from the sheer level of fake sweetness.
She turned to her with a slight tilt of the head.
“Angelica, are you… bragging to me?”
Angelica smiled proudly.
“Selina, I’m not bragging—just telling the truth. You and Logan don’t have any real emotional foundation. See? He was willing to toss you aside for me. You should just give up already.”
Selina gave her a calm, almost amused smile.
“Angelica, take a good look at my face. Do you think I’m pretty?”
Angelica’s breath hitched. She clenched her teeth.
Everyone knew no matter how much makeup or designer clothes Angelica wore, she couldn’t hold a candle to Selina’s natural beauty.
“Looks like you agree I’m beautiful,” Selina said with a shrug. “Men are visual creatures, you know. So tell me—if I really decided to lower my standards… would Logan like you more, or me?”
Angelica screamed, “Selina!”
Selina casually tucked her hair behind her ear.
“Men are easy. One little finger curl and they come running. I’m just too bored to play right now. Don’t mistake that for losing.”
“You’re dreaming! Logan’s not the kind of man who only cares about—”
“Angelica, the guests are arriving. Stop talking to people who don’t belong at the table.”
Katie walked over, oozing fake elegance as she shot Selina a look of disdain.
“Some people only have a pretty face—what good is that? Unlike our Angelica, who’s perfect in every way. That’s why Mr. Reid chose her.”
She turned to her daughter with a proud smile.
“Come on, Angelica. Mr. Reid will be here any minute. Let’s go greet him. As for you, Selina, just stay in the back garden like a good girl. I know it’s beneath you… but hey, life’s unfair. Some are born swans, and others are just chickens. And chickens belong in the coop.”
Mother and daughter raised their chins and walked off, basking in their moment of imagined victory.
To them, Selina was nothing but a washed-up country girl—without Logan’s favor, she was nobody.
And at this grand party, no one would even guess…
That today was actually supposed to be Selina’s birthday.
Nearby, other socialites whispered among themselves, trying to win Angelica’s favor.
“She must be dying of jealousy.”
“What kind of nerve does she have, showing up to Angelica’s birthday?”
“She deserves it. No mom, no manners.”
Selina stood quietly, unmoved, waiting for the banquet to begin.
The real show’s just getting started. Let’s see if Angelica can still smile in a little while…
All the guests had arrived and were now presenting gifts to Angelica.
These weren’t just anyone—many were from powerful families, and the gifts were lavish.
Angelica accepted each one with exaggerated grace, shooting Selina a look every time.
“Selina, ever seen things like these before?”
Katie covered her mouth and laughed.
“Yes, Selina, if you see something you like, take it! Angelica won’t mind sharing!”
Selina gave a cold snort of laughter.
Suddenly—
“Whoa! Look at that… is that a pigeon’s blood ruby?!”
Someone gasped. Everyone turned in shock.
On a velvet-lined tray sat a stunning pigeon’s blood ruby brooch.
“Is that one of Angelica’s gifts too?”
“Oh my god, who’s being that extravagant?!”
Angelica’s heart nearly leapt out of her chest.
She had seen that exact gem at an auction once. It sold for 200 million—snatched up by an old heiress.
And now…
Someone was giving it to her?!
