Chapter 243: Going Public With the Marriage
The fireworks were for my wife. What does that have to do with you?
My wife…
Luke chimed in, voice dripping with sarcasm, “Exactly! Angelica, you might wanna get that imagination checked. Since when were you Logan’s wife? That’s news to me—funny, I don’t recall having a sister-in-law like you.”
Angelica stumbled back a step, her face flashing pale, then flushed, then pale again.
The crowd began to murmur as reality sank in.
“Didn’t they say Mr. Reid didn’t like his wife?”
“Yeah, and Angelica hinted more than once that he was divorcing soon. Was all that fake?”
“Mr. Reid launched a drone and firework show for his wife… doesn’t look like he’s divorcing anyone. Looks more like he’s madly in love.”
“Angelica must’ve lied about everything just to climb the ladder!”
Angelica and Katie both felt the world spinning, their bodies trembling with the weight of humiliation.
“What right do you have to talk like that about Angelica?” someone suddenly shouted.
Angelica’s best friend, Zara, stood up for her. “If Angelica’s being called a homewrecker, then what does that make Selina?! She accepted Mr. Reid’s gifts and even the island! Isn’t she trying to climb her way up too?”
Angelica’s face twisted in panic—she tried to stop Zara, but it was too late.
Logan chuckled lightly.
“And why shouldn’t Selina accept my gifts?”

Zara shot back, frustrated, “If you love your wife so much, why give Selina so many things? Aren’t you worried Mrs. Reid might get the wrong idea?”
Right! Selina knew Mr. Reid was married—yet she got so close to him and accepted gifts worth billions…
Selina blinked, unbothered, and replied casually, “Why would I get the wrong idea about myself?”
What… what did that mean?
Zara turned helplessly to Angelica, only to see her seething with rage.
Then came the blow: “Because I am Mrs. Reid.”
—I’m Mrs. Reid. My husband gave me fireworks, me an island, me the gifts. Why would I be jealous?
The words dropped like a bomb.
Silence swallowed the entire room.
Selina is Mrs. Reid.
Selina is Mrs. Reid.
Selina is Mrs. Reid…
The phrase echoed in everyone’s mind like a chant. They were stunned speechless.
If Selina was the real Mrs. Reid—then what the hell was Angelica doing? Bragging in front of the man’s actual wife?
“Did the Clark Family know about this?”
“They must have! No way they didn’t know Selina married Logan. And they still let the stepdaughter try to steal the real daughter’s husband?!”
“James and Katie are disgusting.”
“James must’ve lost his mind. All this sucking up to a stepdaughter while burning bridges with Mr. Reid and Selina… The Clark Family deserves every ounce of this embarrassment.”
Each insult landed like a slap. James swayed on his feet, face drained of color.
He met Selina’s eyes—only to watch her look away without the slightest hesitation.
Like he was just a stranger.
For the first time, James questioned everything.
Had he been wrong?
Should he never have listened to Katie? Should he have never sent Selina to the countryside?
If Selina had remained the Clark Family’s rightful heiress, maybe today wouldn’t have ended in such disgrace.
Angelica stared, completely broken.
Her voice trembled, “No… no, Logan, you said you had a surprise for me…”
Logan looked at her, expression flat.
“And you don’t think this counts as a surprise?”
Angelica froze—then suddenly everything clicked.
This was the surprise.
This entire spectacle had been a setup.
Logan and Selina had played her like a fool—just to teach her a lesson.
She had been thoroughly, spectacularly humiliated.
And it had been the plan all along.
“Angelica.”
Angelica’s whole body trembled. Out of nowhere, she heard a soft female voice.
Selina had somehow appeared at her side. Her tone was light, teasing, just loud enough for the two of them to hear.
“When you stole my birthday… when you flaunted everything in my face… did it ever cross your mind this day would come?”
“Selina!”
Selina watched her expression twist with helpless rage, savoring it. “Don’t get so worked up—this is just the beginning. What happened four years ago? I’ll settle the score, one piece at a time.”
Angelica’s scalp prickled with fear, panic rising as she struggled to keep her face neutral.
“Logan won’t let you. He’ll protect me!”
Selina arched a brow, unconcerned.
“Oh yeah? Let’s see about that.”
Logan stepped over and slid his arm around Selina’s waist. “Let’s go.”
The birthday party had descended into a full-blown farce. After Logan and Selina left, the rest of the crowd stood frozen, unsure if they should even stay.
…After all, it wasn’t Angelica’s birthday. Was there still a reason to continue?
“You’re all still here?” Ethan’s voice came lazily from the side.
“I’ve known Logan for twenty years. Trust me, I know exactly how he is. Angelica crossed Mrs. Reid—and crossing her means crossing him. Stay close to Angelica if you want, but just don’t blame me when the fallout hits you.”
He didn’t have to finish. Several top-tier actors and actresses from the entertainment world immediately made their exit.
Then the Clark Family’s business partners and collaborators followed suit, all offering polite excuses.
Minor celebrities didn’t dare offend Logan either:
“Mr. Clark, we’ll take our leave now…”
“Just remembered I have something urgent to deal with…”
“Miss Angelica, let’s catch up another time. I’m off to a business meeting, sorry!”
In less than five minutes, the place was deserted.
Angelica stared blankly at the empty venue—and fainted.
“Angelica!”
“Someone help—Angelica just collapsed!”
“That cursed Selina!” Katie shrieked. “If anything happens to my daughter, I swear she’ll pay with her life!”
Chaos erupted throughout the Clark estate.
And for the first time, James remembered what it had been like when Victoria was still part of the family… Maybe letting Katie take her place had been the biggest mistake of all.
…
Everything that happened at the Clark Family estate spread like wildfire.
Selina sat in the car, idly scrolling through Twitter, a pleased expression on her face.
Logan raised an eyebrow.
“Enjoying yourself?”
Selina was positively beaming, resting her chin in her hand.
“Of course I am. Can’t help it—I’m petty like that.”
Logan’s smile deepened.
Selina looked out the window, frowning as the car drove farther out of the city.
“This isn’t the way back to Sapphire Valley Villa.”
Logan folded his newspaper.
“You’re the birthday girl. Naturally, we’re going somewhere special.”
Selina’s heart skipped a beat.
The farther they drove, the more remote it became—until even the city lights had disappeared. She couldn’t help but ask, “A special place? What kind of place exactly?”
“Sir, we’ve arrived,” Jack said as he brought the car to a stop.
Selina looked outside—everything was covered in glistening white snow. Her eyes widened.
“You didn’t get to enjoy the hot springs last time,” Logan said casually. “So I bought an entire mountain resort. You’re the first guest, Mrs. Reid.”
Selina’s voice trembled,
“You’re the owner?”
Logan gave a soft laugh.
“So, my honored guest—would you let me take care of you tonight?”
