Chapter 246: Banished by the Family
Selina’s throat tightened, and her cheeks flushed with heat.

Logan glanced down at the photo, his expression unreadable, lips curved in a faint, amused smirk. “No rush.”

“How is this not urgent?!” Her temper flared again. “They’re already spreading lies about you all over the internet, and you don’t even know who’s behind it—”

Just then, Logan’s phone rang.

On the other end, Daniel roared, “Get your ass back here! You cause a scandal this huge and don’t even have the decency to reflect? I should just hand the company over to Owen. Is stirring up trouble the only thing you know how to do?!”

Logan calmly ended the call and turned to Selina.

“Now we know. Told you, no need to rush.”

Selina caught on. “So the one behind the rumor… was Owen?”

Logan’s voice was casual, as if the whole thing was barely worth his attention. “He planted two people inside the company. It’s time to stir things up. Mrs. Reid, care to do me a favor?”

Selina stared at him.

Why did it feel like she’d just stepped onto a pirate ship?

…

The rumor on Twitter was quickly debunked, but the very next day, Owen strolled into Reid Group, ready to “take over” Logan’s position.

When Selina arrived, she immediately spotted a manager-looking guy sucking up to Owen. That was Paul—the one who took the photo and sent it to the gossip accounts.

She let out a cold laugh and walked straight over.

“Well, if it isn’t Young Master Owen. What brings you to Logan’s company today? Strange. Seeing Logan doing so well—don’t you feel a little inadequate? What gives you the nerve to show up?”

Owen hadn’t expected her to come out swinging. His face twitched, but then he composed himself and gave a smug smile. “Have you checked the trending topics?”

Every employee nearby perked up their ears.

Yesterday’s drama had blown up online. Even though Jack later issued a clarification, who knew what to believe? If Mr. Reid had really cheated, what was Mrs. Reid doing here today?

Selina flipped her hair, voice cool. “Trending? You mean the one about Logan and some mysterious woman at the grocery store?”

Owen looked down his nose at her. “Exactly. Big brother really let you down—announcing your marriage one day and out with another woman the next. Dad’s worried about the damage to the company’s image. That’s why I’m here now.”

Selina blinked innocently.

“Oh… so Young Master Owen is here to take over Reid Group? But I seem to recall that the branch Logan runs, he built from the ground up. It doesn’t belong to the Reid Family. On what basis are you taking over?”

Owen looked proud of himself. “We’re family, aren’t we? Besides, with Logan caught up in public scandal, he’s no longer fit to be the face of the company.”

“I see…” Selina nodded slowly.

Just as Owen thought he’d shut her up and readied himself to keep bragging—

She tilted her head and spoke again, voice full of fake confusion.

“But wasn’t it you who started that public scandal in the first place?”

…

The room went dead silent.

Owen hadn’t fully processed her words when Selina continued, voice sharp.

“That photo—wasn’t it taken by Manager Paul? Everyone knows he works for you. This isn’t the first time he’s tried to smear Logan.”

Everyone turned to stare at Owen in shock. That photo came from Owen?! Damn… he really would do anything for power.

Owen flushed bright red. “So what? Logan did cheat!”

“Who said that’s true?” Selina shot back, her tone laced with sarcasm.

“You mean to tell me… you didn’t recognize me in that photo? I wasn’t even wearing a hat and mask the whole time yesterday. You couldn’t tell it was me?”

The words dropped like a bomb, sending shockwaves through the crowd. Murmurs and whispers erupted all around.

“What?! That woman from yesterday was Mrs. Reid?”

“Now that you mention it… the height and figure match.”

“It’s one thing for us not to recognize her, but Owen didn’t either?”

“The photo was taken by Paul, right? The whole thing exploded online yesterday, and now Owen shows up today trying to take over the company… Could it all have been planned?”

“Very likely. Owen’s useless—he can only get what he wants by stealing from Mr. Reid. Too bad he couldn’t find any real dirt, so he just made some up.”

“Disgusting…”

Owen’s face went pale with panic. “Selina, what nonsense are you spouting?! That’s complete slander! Someone shut her up, I’ll—”

Ring ring—

A phone cut him off mid-rant.

Without thinking, Selina picked it up.

Jack’s anxious voice came through the line: “Madam, please come to the Reid Family estate—sir’s been injured…”

Selina’s expression dropped instantly.

…

Half an hour earlier.

Reid Family estate, reception hall.

Logan was seated at the head of the table, calmly sipping tea.

The butler stood off to the side, nervously watching him. Logan had said he was here to “answer” for the scandal online—but with that relaxed attitude, it didn’t look like he was here to answer for anything.

“Sir, the chairman will be here soon… perhaps you should…”

Move seats?

After all, Logan was the son. This was the Reid family’s ancestral home, and Daniel was still the patriarch. Logan sitting in the main seat—it was improper.

“Should what?” Logan asked lazily.

Cold sweat dripped down the butler’s back. “N-nothing, sir. It’s just… perhaps you could greet the chairman when he arrives?”

Logan raised a brow. “Did my father break his legs?”

“Of course not—”

“If he did, maybe I could put on a show of being a filial son. If he didn’t, what am I greeting him for?”

“Insolent brat!”

Daniel’s furious roar rang from the doorway. Without hesitation, he grabbed a heavy inkstone and hurled it at Logan’s head.

Logan easily leaned to the side, and the inkstone crashed onto the floor with a sharp thud.

Daniel’s face darkened even more. “Who said you could dodge?!”

Logan narrowed his eyes. “Chairman Reid, I suggest you drop the ‘elderly authority’ act in front of me.”

The butler didn’t even dare to breathe.

“You—You—”

Daniel was livid.

“Look at yourself! I’m your father—how can you talk to me like that?! Is this what your upbringing taught you?!”

“Exactly,” Logan said evenly.

“When the top is crooked, the base can’t be straight. I guess I never learned manners.”

The room fell into an eerie silence.

Daniel was momentarily stunned, completely choked up.

He couldn’t understand—when had Logan slipped from his control?

He had never once looked highly upon the son who returned from the Carter Family. In fact, he had deliberately tried to suppress and weaken him.

Thinking of the Carter Family, Daniel suddenly remembered “the real reason” he’d called Logan back.

“Enough. I don’t care about the gossip online. I called you here for something else.”

Daniel didn’t think anything was wrong with saying that, as a father.

“Old Mr. Carter says he raised you for years, and even now, after you’ve returned to the Reid Family, he still thinks of you as his own. He wants you back in the Carter Family. I’ve already agreed.”

Daniel waved it off impatiently.

“Go back to the Carters. Be their son. From now on, you’ll have nothing to do with Reid Group. But before you leave—transfer Reid Group to your younger brother.”

Silence fell again—so still, a pin drop would echo.

Clink.

Logan calmly set down his teacup.

His face remained unreadable, and in those eyes, not a single ripple stirred.
