Chapter 250: A Dream
Selina wasn’t about to keep her cool. “How could I not be angry? Twisting the truth like that? Owen, do you really think no one can put you in your place?”
Owen’s smug expression dropped the moment Selina raised her fist. Panic washed over his face.
“Wh-what are you doing? Logan, I’m the rightful heir to the Reid Family now. You wouldn’t dare touch me!”
Logan lifted his gaze, calm and cold, as if he were looking at a ghost.
“Get out.”
“Logan, you—” Owen’s rage turned into fear. He swallowed his next words, his face shifting between red and pale.
“Fine! I’ll go. But don’t think this is over. You won’t win against me!”
As Owen stormed off, Selina cracked her knuckles. “He really has the nerve to call himself Anna’s son? That’s a joke.”
“He’s never even visited her on her death anniversary. He claims to be her son, yet calls the woman who caused her death ‘Mom’? The audacity.”
Logan sipped his tea, face unreadable. “It was expected.”
Selina ground her teeth. “Anna’s anniversary is coming up soon. What if Owen and Amelia use it to stir up drama again and bother Grandma?”
Logan’s eyes briefly flickered with a flash of cold fury, but he quickly masked it. “Let them make noise. It doesn’t matter.”
Still fuming, Selina eventually sat on the couch to rest and unexpectedly drifted off.
She had a dream—faint and distant.
She was a teenager again, maybe seventeen or eighteen, and she sat down beside a man.

The man was quietly wiping down a headstone. She asked, “Big brother, what are you doing?”
His voice was calm and measured. “Visiting my mother.”
Selina in the dream apologized immediately, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up something painful. Let me help.”
The man gave a faint smile. “No need to apologize. She’s been gone for many years. It’s just the truth. I’ve accepted it. I only met her a few times. Officially, she was never even considered my mother.”
Selina didn’t understand. If she was his mother, why couldn’t he acknowledge her?
The man finished cleaning the stone and placed a bouquet of white carnations in front of it.
She looked at him, wanting to ask something, but held back.
He explained, “I don’t get to visit often. Just being able to clean her headstone and leave her some flowers… that’s enough.”
As the dream faded, Selina felt herself waking up.
Then, the man turned toward her—
“Ah!” Selina jolted awake, drenched in cold sweat.
Logan set down his book and walked over. “Mrs. Reid, what’s wrong?”
Selina stared at him, stunned, her throat tight.
In her dream… she’d seen Logan’s face. When the man turned around, it was him. And the woman he was mourning—was Anna.
Had Owen driven her so crazy she was dreaming this stuff now?
“Nightmare?” Logan placed a hand on her forehead.
She shook her head. After a while, she calmed down. “In the past… on Anna’s death anniversary… did you visit her?”
Logan replied blandly, “When Grandma was sick, no one in the Perry Family dared mention her. Let alone pay respects.”
Selina asked again, “When did your grandma get better?”
“She was never fully recovered. But the episodes stopped three and a half years ago—she was discharged then.”
Logan looked at her. “That’s when I started going to visit… to pay respects to Anna. Before that, her name was a taboo in both the Perry and Reid families.”
And if it was a taboo, any mourning could only be done in secret.
Selina’s mind jolted like she’d been hit with a bolt of lightning.
In the dream, she looked around seventeen—that would’ve been four years ago. Back then, Grandma Perry hadn’t recovered yet, and Logan wouldn’t have been able to visit Anna’s grave.
Wait… even in her dreams, she kept the timeline logical?
“Then… did you ever secretly visit her before that?” she asked, a little hesitant.
Logan suddenly lowered his gaze, his eyes sharp and searching, like he could see straight through her. “Mrs. Reid, what is it you know?”
Selina quickly shook her head and forced out an awkward response. “Nothing, I’m just curious. I mean… I feel like you would’ve, right?”
Logan didn’t bother denying it. “I did.”
“How?” she asked quietly.
“I cleaned her headstone, left carnations, sat with her for a bit. Talked to her, even though I knew she’d never answer.”
A strange ache spread through Selina’s chest. The way dream-Logan had done the exact same things as the real one… it made no sense. She hadn’t known about any of that. Then how could she dream it?
Dreams had to come from somewhere—some memory, some stimulus. Unless…
A wild thought suddenly struck her.
Could it be that… she had seen Logan at Anna’s grave four years ago?
The idea shocked her. Just as she was about to ask him, Jack entered the room. “Sir, the car’s ready.”
Logan stood. “Let’s go.”
Selina’s thoughts scattered. She blinked. “Where are we going?”
“Home, of course.” Logan raised an eyebrow. “Or do you want to stay here at the Reid estate?”
“But…” Selina’s mind was still a mess of half-formed thoughts. The small fire of suspicion in her heart was burning stronger. “But you didn’t even get anything out of this visit. Doesn’t that just make Owen even more arrogant?”
Before, they’d at least had the excuse that Owen was just a foster son—Amelia had no reason to pass him Reid Group’s shares. But now, Daniel and Amelia had no shame and publicly declared Owen the rightful heir of the Reid family. All of Logan’s scheming seemed pointless.
But Logan simply looked down and curved his lips into a faint smile.
“Mrs. Reid, I’ve already gotten what I came for.”
Selina blinked. “You did?”
Could it be…
“Making Owen Anna’s so-called ‘son’—that was your goal?” she asked.
A dangerously charming smile curled on Logan’s lips. He lazily lifted a finger and pressed it against her lips.
“Little one, some secrets aren’t meant to be told.”
Selina thought of the smug faces Owen and Amelia had been wearing. Her brows lifted slightly—clearly, some people had already walked right into Logan’s trap. And they were too busy celebrating to even notice.
…
A few days later, Selina received a call from an old high school classmate.
“Selina! I’m back in City A—let’s meet up soon.”
It was her best friend from high school, who’d returned to City H after graduation to take over the family business.
Selina was so thrilled she nearly bounced out of bed. She immediately reserved a private room at a fancy restaurant with the best view.
Logan dropped her off at the entrance. A woman was already standing by the car.
Selina stepped out and waved. “Freya!”
Freya Drake hadn’t changed much in the years since high school. She walked up with open arms for a hug, but her eyes quickly landed on Logan’s face, and she froze. “Wait… this is your husband?”
After Selina confirmed it, Freya’s excitement exploded.
“Selina, that’s amazing! You’ve been with him for four years now, right? You two were meant to be!”
The air went instantly still.
Logan’s eyes snapped up.
Selina froze too.
Wait—what did Freya just say?
Logan narrowed his eyes slightly, his voice low and rough.
“Four years?”
