Chapter 254: No One Can Take Him from Me
The entire courtyard fell into a deathly silence.
Logan’s eyes were cold and sharp as blades, sweeping over the crowd without the slightest trace of emotion.
The lead maid trembled all over. She hadn’t expected Logan to return at this moment. Her legs went weak with fear. “M-Mr. Reid…”
Logan’s voice was low and dangerous as he asked coldly, word by word, “You wanted Mrs. Reid to kneel to you?”
“N-No!”
The maid’s earlier arrogance was completely gone. Her face turned pale as she stumbled to explain.
“It’s not what it looks like. Mrs. Reid suddenly hit me, and I—I lost my temper and said something I shouldn’t have…”
Selina was stunned. A grown woman still trying to play the innocent victim? Twisting the truth like that?
Logan raised an eyebrow. “Selina hit you?”
The maid thought she saw a way out and quickly leaned into the act, speaking as if she were being generous and forgiving—but clearly hoping to stir things up.
“She did. You can see the mark on my face. I know I’m just a servant. If she wants to hit me, it’s only fair. I don’t blame her, really, I—”
“Have you hit her enough?” Logan interrupted, his tone detached as he turned to ask.
The maid’s words got stuck in her throat. She couldn’t speak.
Selina blinked. Wait a second—was he talking to her?
Logan didn’t seem to think there was anything strange about what he’d said. He added lazily, “If not, go ahead.”

…Go ahead?
Selina was sure now—he was talking to her!
“Logan, what if I hit her too hard and kill her?”
Logan gave her a meaningful look. “If you kill her, I’ll take responsibility. Go on.”
The maid was instantly gripped by fear. She staggered back in panic.
“N-No, Mr. Reid, she insulted me first! And she even insulted Madam Reid! I only brought up Miss Angelica. She’s the one who—”
“Logan, let it go,” Selina said sweetly, suddenly throwing herself into his arms like a delicate damsel. “This lady was sent by Madam Amelia, right? She’s probably here to take care of the new madam. I’m just the sad little wife about to be thrown out—how could I say anything?”
Logan narrowed his eyes. “New madam?”
The maid felt a sudden wave of dread, but it was too late to stop anything. Selina sniffled.
“Yeah, everyone’s saying you have a fiancée, that I stole someone else’s husband and should hurry up and get lost. Logan, make them stop. I’m fragile. What if one day…”
The maid snorted silently. This pathetic act again? Trying to win pity by pretending to be on the verge of suicide? Please. Mr. Reid wasn’t the kind of man who’d fall for a weak woman’s games.
“…What if one day I snap and end up cutting all their tongues out?”
…
The air froze for a solid minute.
Jack twitched. Cutting tongues out? And she was claiming to be “too afraid to speak up”?
Logan’s lips curved into a slow smile. He glanced at her, then lazily ordered, “If they like to talk behind people’s backs, cut their tongues out.”
The maids instantly dropped to their knees with a thud, any shred of hope gone.
They all knew Logan’s methods. Anyone who crossed him never ended well.
“Mr. Reid! We were wrong! We shouldn’t have gossiped about Mrs. Reid, please forgive us!”
“Mrs. Reid, please! Be merciful—we’ll slap ourselves right now!”
Soon, the crisp sound of slaps echoed through the courtyard.
Selina almost choked—no wonder people said Logan was ruthless like a grim reaper. These people were terrified.
Then she suddenly gave a sly smile.
“Logan, I’m a kind person. I don’t like seeing blood. How about this—if they give up the person behind all this, we let them off, okay?”
Logan looked down calmly. “Aren’t you worried they’ll lie?”
“Of course I’m worried,” Selina sniffled and sighed. “That’s why I need proof. Words alone don’t mean anything—I need something convincing.”
The maids exchanged panicked glances but stayed silent.
They had indeed been bribed—but the person who bribed them? That name was too risky to say.
Minutes passed. Still, no one spoke.
Selina slowly shook her head.
“Aww, no one wants to talk? I tried being merciful, but I guess that’s wasted. Logan, when you cut their tongues out, don’t be too quick about it. A dull blade makes it hurt more…”
“Wait! We’ll talk!”
The maids went limp with fear when they saw the blade in Jack’s hand and shouted in panic.
“It was Angelica! Angelica paid us to spread rumors about her engagement to Mr. Reid! It was all her, not us—please believe us!”
“Sir, we didn’t know any better. Angelica tricked us!”
“Yes, yes! We have proof—recordings! We’re innocent…”
Selina raised an eyebrow and took the recorder, listening for a few seconds. A cold smile tugged at her lips.
“My dear sister really will stoop to anything just to climb up the ladder.”
Logan gave Jack a look, and he had the maids taken away.
Logan then said simply, “There is no engagement between me and Angelica.”
“No need to explain,” Selina said firmly. “You’re my man. I don’t care if there was an engagement—she’s not taking you.”
That phrase—my man—made Logan’s gaze instantly soften.
He repeated it slowly to himself, almost savoring the words.
“Mm. I won’t be taken away.”
…
Since Selina was attending the antique exhibition the next day, Logan gifted her a few pieces from his private collection.
Any one of them could steal the spotlight—and he gave her three.
As for the gossiping maids, Logan fired them all. With his name on the line, none of them would find work again.
Later that night, at 11:30, Logan finally closed the last contract on his desk and looked up.
“Where’s Mrs. Reid?”
Jack looked puzzled. “Ma’am said she has things to do tomorrow and went to bed early.”
Went to bed?
Logan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He looked… oddly expectant.
“She didn’t say anything before sleeping?”
Jack hesitated, trying to read his mood. “Um… sir, what do you think she should’ve said?”
Logan said nothing but turned his gaze away.
She called him her man, yet said nothing at midnight. No sweet words, no thanks for the antiques. He thought she cared about him—and then she just… went to bed?
Jack glanced at the time, then back at Logan’s face—and suddenly had an epiphany.
Sir wants to be in love.
Master-of-romance Jack cleared his throat and coughed.
“Sir… I’m not sure if I should say this, but…”
