Chapter 274: Like a Loyal Puppy
The Reid family was full of schemers—collectively they probably had three thousand tricks up their sleeves. So how on earth did they end up raising a Luke?

Selina couldn’t even be bothered to explain. She replied casually, “Yeah, I’m so touched to have a friend like that.”

Luke: “…” Why did that sound kind of sarcastic?

But as a naive marshmallow, he didn’t think too hard about it. “Didn’t you say you had a custom ring made? It’s ready. Want to go pick it up?”

Selina was surprised. “Already?”

She had sent Rowan’s design sketches to one of the Reid Group’s jewelry factories. Usually it would take a month, minimum. She hadn’t expected it to be done in just ten days.

Luke sounded a bit smug. “Of course! Do you know whose factory that is?”

It was his. Sure, he didn’t actually manage it, but it was under his name, and he’d personally followed up. How could they not take it seriously?

Selina was tempted. She really wanted to see the ring Rowan had designed for her in real life.

They agreed on the spot, and Luke drove over to Sapphire Valley Villa to pick her up. Selina went upstairs to change, then came down just as Miller Butler passed by.

“Ma’am, are you heading out?”

“Yeah, I’m going to pick up the ring.”

“Mister just finished his video meeting and said he’ll go with you. Could you wait a moment?”

Selina nodded. “Okay.”

Just then, Luke showed up, waving her over. “Come on, let’s go!”

Selina started, “Logan said he wanted to—”

Before she could finish, Luke had already pushed her into the car, bouncing with excitement. “Let me tell you, I personally invested in this factory. I made sure everything was top-notch. The materials they used for your ring? Best of the best. It’s going to be incredible!”

Selina suddenly felt like Luke was a golden retriever wagging his tail, proudly bringing her a bone and begging for praise.

But she hadn’t forgotten Miller Butler’s message. “Shouldn’t we wait for—”

“No way, I can’t wait anymore,” Luke said, rubbing his hands together.

He was dying to show her the surprise. Before she could say anything else, the car sped off.

After a long moment of silence, Selina figured she should text Logan and explain.

She typed out a message but paused before sending it. A thought hit her. “Wait a minute—how did you even know I had a ring custom-made?”

It was true Luke had followed up with the factory, but how did he even know to do that?

Luke blinked. “You didn’t know?”

“Know what?”

He pulled out his phone and showed her a Twitter post. “Riley tweeted about it ten days ago. Said you were getting a custom ring. Angelica’s fans flamed her for it. Aren’t you two friends? You didn’t see it?”

“…” If she didn’t know Luke was a clueless puppy, she would’ve thought he was being passive-aggressive.

Selina was speechless. “You really think Riley considers me a friend?”

“Wait…” Luke’s expression turned serious.

Selina’s eyes lit up. “You figured something out?!”

Luke sat upright, face grim. “You mean Riley posted that tweet just to… get yelled at?”

His tone turned panicked. “Is she… psychologically unstable?!”

Selina: “…”

She slumped back in her seat, stared at the ceiling, and said lifelessly, “Just drive. I’m tired.”

Forget it. Riley’s acting skills were too good. It made sense that Luke couldn’t see through her. He even thought Bella was a good person.

Still, Luke quietly deleted Riley’s contact and unfollowed her on Twitter.

Yep—if Selina didn’t like someone, there had to be a reason.

The car pulled into DY Street, a bustling luxury shopping district packed with high-end brands. Luke, ever the gentleman, opened the door for Selina.

As she stepped out, a strange feeling hit her—like she was forgetting something.

Hmm… what was it?

She vaguely recalled needing to message someone…

Eh, probably not important.

…

Sapphire Valley Villa.

Logan stepped out of his study, the quiet emptiness of the villa immediately catching his attention. His brows lifted slightly. “Where’s Mrs. Reid?”

Jack’s expression twisted into something awkward.

How should he put this?

Should he say “Ma’am forgot what you told her and ran off with Young Master Luke”? If he phrased it like that, would Luke live to see tomorrow’s sunrise?

“I’m not sure if I should say…”

“Say it.”

Jack swallowed hard, steeling himself like a soldier marching to his doom. “The wedding rings are ready. Madam was excited to see them… so she went to DY Street first.”

Logan was silent for a long moment.

Then he let out a low chuckle, casual but layered. “Oh? She went alone?”

Jack, already preparing for the worst, took a breath and tried to make peace with the universe. Young Master Luke, I really tried.

“…No, she went with Young Master Luke.”

“Mm.” Logan’s face remained surprisingly calm. “Let’s go.”

“To… to where?”

Logan shot him a knowing look, didn’t answer, and walked out.

Jack had the distinct feeling a metaphorical blade had just grazed his scalp. He said a silent prayer for Selina and Luke’s well-being.

…

DY Street Commercial Plaza.

Inside the city’s largest jewelry store—Luke’s store, though few people knew he was the real owner—Selina and Luke stepped through the doors and were immediately greeted by a hostess, who guided them to a VIP lounge.

“Miss Clark, please wait a moment. Your order is ready—I’ll have someone bring it out.”

As the hostess left, Luke leaned over, sounding slightly sour. “I’m really curious… how amazing could Logan’s taste in rings be?”

He had wanted to gift Selina a custom wedding ring himself, but Jack told him Logan had already handled it—and not to interfere.

His surprise had died before it even had the chance to be delivered. So now, Luke had to see what Logan picked.

Soon, a woman who looked like a manager came in carrying a velvet tray.

Luke’s eyes lit up as he rubbed his hands together. “Let’s see what Mr. Perfect’s taste is like—wait, this is it?”

This?

On the tray were two platinum rings. Plain, unimaginative. The kind you could find at any mall jewelry counter. They didn’t even meet the standard of “custom.”

This was Logan’s idea of style?

Luke turned to Selina with genuine concern. “Selina, you don’t actually think these look good, right? Should we go get your eyes checked? The hospital still takes walk-ins.”

Selina instantly felt her temper flare.

Excuse me?! Rowan designed those rings! If anyone here lacked taste, it was definitely Luke.

She marched over, ready to give him a full analysis of just how brilliant the rings were—when she stopped cold.

Because those two plain platinum rings?

They weren’t the ones she ordered.

They weren’t Rowan’s design.

Selina’s eyes narrowed.

Where the hell are the real rings?
