Chapter 278: Luke’s Bold Declaration
Of course Joe picked up on it, and in that moment, he felt both heartbroken and furious.

“Selina, I know Angelica used to be the Clark Family’s adopted daughter and you never liked her. I let that slide. But now, she’s the Morris Family’s heiress. If you’re still trying to bully her, you better think twice!”

Then he turned to Angelica. “Angelica, you don’t have to be so soft. Why should you give in just because Selina wants something?!”

Angelica looked like she was trying to explain, but she was really fanning the flames. “Dad, that’s not it. Selina said the rings represent pure, untainted love, and that a mistress doesn’t deserve them… so I…”

Luke was stunned. He’d never seen someone twist the truth like this.

Sure enough, Joe lost it. “What nonsense! Selina, if you want to take Angelica’s rings, you better pray you’re lucky enough to pull it off. I was trying to keep the peace, but you’ve gone too far!”

Selina raised an eyebrow. Angelica was good—just a few words and the blame landed squarely on her. And Joe actually believed it.

She was about to speak when someone stepped in front of her.

Logan’s expression was cool. “Chairman Morris, what exactly are you trying to do?”

Joe’s tone was firm. “Return the rings and apologize to Angelica. That’s all I’m asking. If Selina won’t do it, the Morris Family won’t let this go!”

Logan paused for a moment and let out a short laugh.

“Angelica, are you absolutely sure I gave you these two rings?”

Angelica flinched, biting her lip.

Of course not. But under the circumstances, she couldn’t admit it.

With the Morris Family backing her, even if Logan denied it, Joe would just think he was siding with Selina on purpose.

With that in mind, Angelica felt emboldened. She put on a pitiful look, eyes brimming with tears.

“Logan… I didn’t mean to fight with Selina. You gave me the rings, but when Selina got upset, you took them back. I didn’t even say anything. It was my fault earlier. Please don’t be mad.”

Joe couldn’t stand seeing his daughter grovel like that. “Logan, you—”

“Chairman Morris, that’s your third wrong guess.” Logan calmly cut him off. There was no emotion in his voice, but what he said stunned everyone.

“I’m no expert, but I designed both pairs of rings myself.”

“From the pattern to the style—every detail came from me. I poured an incredible amount of effort into these rings… Mrs. Reid is standing right here. On what basis do you think they were made for Angelica?”

Jack stepped forward and showed the design sketches.

There were ten designs in total. Selina had only picked two, but the remaining eight were just as distinctive, clearly from the same creator.

The sketches even included notes: Selina likes stars. Selina likes snowflakes. Selina likes the color blue.

Every part of the design was tailored to Selina’s tastes. What did that have to do with Angelica?

Anyone with eyes could see these rings were a gift from Mr. Reid to Mrs. Reid.

The truth hit like a slap in the face. Joe stared at Angelica, stunned. “This… this…”

Luke immediately laid it on thick, voice dripping with sarcasm.

“Chairman Morris, how about this—you claim Logan’s got dementia and can’t tell the difference between the names Selina and Angelica.”

“Just say the sketches were actually meant for Angelica, but he accidentally wrote the wrong name.”

“Because otherwise, I can’t figure it out. Why would the Morris Family’s heiress be so desperate to steal someone else’s wedding ring? At this point, even my mom would salute a mistress that bold!”

Selina: “…”

This guy’s mouth really is something else. She couldn’t help thinking, How has Amelia not had a heart attack raising him?

“You… you…” Joe staggered back a couple of steps. As the head of the Morris Group, when had he ever been challenged like this by someone so much younger? And worse—he had nothing to say, because he was in the wrong.

He never imagined Angelica would lie. It shattered his perception of her. For a moment, Joe couldn’t process it.

“Dad, it’s my fault.”

Angelica suddenly stepped forward, tears in her eyes, shaking her head. “I was too caught up in my feelings. I thought Logan would marry me… I’m sorry, it’s all my fault for causing you trouble…”

Joe snapped out of it.

How could he blame Angelica?

If anyone was at fault, it wasn’t Angelica!

“Mr. Reid,” Joe said, adjusting his tone, “Angelica was wrong to covet Mrs. Reid’s ring, but she’s not entirely to blame. Calling her a ‘mistress’—that’s crossing the line.”

He seemed to find his footing again. “Young Master Luke, I hope you understand—anyone could be called a mistress, but Angelica never could be.”

Luke let out a sharp laugh. “Oh really? Why’s that? All I know is, if you interfere in someone else’s marriage, you’re a mistress. So how’s Angelica not one?”

Joe countered righteously, “Angelica and Logan had a marriage agreement. By your definition, if a mistress is someone who intrudes on a relationship, then shouldn’t we ask—who intruded first?”

—Without Selina, Angelica and Logan would be husband and wife. So Selina is the mistress.

That’s exactly what Joe was implying.

Selina’s eyes darkened. According to everything she’d read, Chairman Morris was supposed to be a refined gentleman. But clearly, when it came to his daughter, even he would twist the truth and throw out baseless accusations.

“Well, that woke me right up,” Luke said loudly, his voice booming so everyone could hear. “What year are we in? And we’re still talking about childhood betrothals? Fine, say there was one. But what did the Morris Family do at the time? You didn’t mention the engagement when Logan was single—only brought it up after he got married?”

“When Logan first returned to the Reid Family, didn’t your Morris Family act all high and mighty? Said what—he was some nobody raised outside the family, and you wanted nothing to do with him?”

“You looked down on him back then—so why is he suddenly ‘good enough’ now that he’s married?”

The crowd’s expressions shifted.

Some who’d previously thought the Morris Family had a point now looked at them with clear disdain.

It wasn’t a secret that Logan had grown up away from the Reids and wasn’t taken in until he was a teenager.

If the Morris Family had rejected him back then and dismissed the engagement, what right did they have to bring it up now?

When Mr. Reid was struggling, the Morris Family didn’t care and acted like the engagement never existed. But now that he’s the head of the Reid Family, they’re crawling back, demanding he honor an old promise—ignoring the fact that he’s already married.

Joe clearly didn’t expect Luke to call him out like that. His face turned red, then green. “That… that wasn’t my decision. It was my father’s…”

“And your father’s decision reflects your family’s stance,” Luke shot back. “So when your family can’t agree internally, you just treat other people like collateral damage? What, was Logan supposed to stay single until the Morris Family could get its act together? Who do you think you are?”

“At the end of the day, the Morris Family is just that—a family. You don’t get to dictate who gets married, or when.”

Joe instinctively tried to defend his daughter, “Angelica was just doing it for the family…”

“Actually, it’s not that complicated.”

Selina finally spoke.

“The only reason Angelica tried to take the rings wasn’t because she wanted them. It was because Katie wanted them.”

Her voice was calm, but her eyes had a sharp, knowing look—like she saw right through them.

“If it weren’t for Katie, the Morris Family wouldn’t be this humiliated right now. Don’t you think so, Chairman Morris?”
