Chapter 285: Deadly Pursuit
Selina went silent at the phrase “a friendship across generations.”
But… when she thought about it, it kind of made sense.
She was more than twenty years younger than a man in his forties, after all.
“Right, right—cross-generational friendship. I’ve never met him before, but we’re about to. What do you think I should give him as a gift?”
Logan let out a faint, subtle chuckle.
Neither of them noticed he was standing nearby.
Miller Butler thought for a moment.
“How about a watch? Something a little more mature in style.”
Selina nodded seriously.
Not a bad idea.
Rowan had designed her wedding rings—giving him a nice watch in return would make for a thoughtful gesture.
Logan pressed a hand to his brow not far away.
Mrs. Reid was seriously preparing a gift for Rowan…
If she found out that he was Rowan, she’d probably feel like she wasted the effort.
When she learned the truth, would she think he’d been playing her this whole time?

But for now… he couldn’t tell her just yet.
The day of the runway event.
Selina wasn’t the focus today, so she dressed casually.
Just as she was about to head out, Logan stopped her.
“Go change.”
“Huh?”
The outfit he handed her looked simple at first glance: a pale gray silk satin dress.
The cut wasn’t complex—elegant, everyday wear—but the detailing was clever and refined.
Selina’s eyes lit up.
“Whose design is this? It’s beautiful.”
It looked vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t quite place where she’d seen it before.
Logan nodded.
“Today, a lot of big names in the fashion industry will be attending. There will be designers, contestants, even celebrities. It’ll be livestreamed. This suits the occasion.”
“Sir, ma’am, the car is ready,” Jack announced.
Logan tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.
“Let’s go.”
Meanwhile, at the Morris Family residence.
Angelica changed into an extravagant, high-end gown.
She had spent a fortune and commissioned the design from DL, working on it for three full months—all to ensure she would steal the spotlight at the runway event.
Joe looked at her, increasingly pleased.
“My daughter is stunning. Come on, I’ll take you to the venue myself.”
“Thank you, Dad,” Angelica replied sweetly.
Joe asked, “The other day on Twitter, you mentioned that Rowan and Star were your mentors. Is that true?”
Angelica froze for a split second, then smiled smoothly.
“Of course it’s true. I learned most of my design skills from Teacher Star. As for Rowan, he’s very busy—he just gives me occasional advice.”
“I actually wanted to wear a pale gray dress designed by Rowan for today, but he’s been hard to reach lately, so I had to give up on that.”
Joe nodded, even more convinced now that Angelica had real connections with both Star and Rowan.
These two were among the most admired designers in the world.
If the Morris Family could get either of them to work with one of their brands, it would elevate the entire company to another level.
Joe was full of admiration.
Even though Angelica didn’t grow up in a prestigious family, she was poised, talented, and now had connections with Rowan and Star. Truly worthy of being Victoria’s daughter.
“Angelica, you won the last design competition. Why didn’t you tell me?I want to put your designs into production—what do you think?”
“That would be amazing. If you say so, Dad.”
Joe beamed.
“You’re incredible, Angelica. The Morris Family’s future will be in your hands.”
Angelica’s eyes flickered, and she lowered her gaze.
So what if she didn’t really know Star or Rowan?
Those two were like elusive dragons—never showing their faces, constantly buried in work.
Why would they bother calling her out over a tiny lie?
And as for that starry sky gown…
Hah.
Two years had passed, and Selina still hadn’t proven she was plagiarized.
What could Selina possibly do now?
In the end, she could only sit there silently, while Angelica claimed the design as her own.
Too bad Selina was Victoria’s daughter… just unlucky, really.
Main Hall – Runway Event Venue
All the celebrities were scrambling just to get an invitation.
Outside, reporters were packed three layers deep.
Even though Selina entered through the underground entrance, she could still hear Angelica’s fans outside, squealing with excitement.
“Angelica’s going to be here today! I really hope I get to see her—this is so exciting!”
“I heard today’s guest list is full of fashion and design industry heavyweights, plus heirs from major families. Celebrities barely made the cut. I doubt we’ll even see them in the livestream.”
“That’s for other celebrities. Angelica isn’t just a celebrity—she’s also the heiress of the Morris Family and a contestant in the design competition!”
“Exactly! And don’t forget, she won the last competition. She has to be the main focus today.”
“Ahhhh—did you hear? Rowan is going to be there too! Oh my God, I’m freaking out. Rowan! The Rowan!”
…
By the time Selina reached the interior of the venue, the voices outside had finally faded.
There were no fans inside—only celebrities, agents, entertainment companies, investors, and media crowding the space.
Selina couldn’t even find a proper place to sit.
Logan leaned down and spoke quietly, “There’s a lounge. Want to go there?”
Selina hesitated, then shook her head.
She still didn’t know where Rowan was.
Everyone said he’d be at the event—so where was he?
The gift she’d prepared was still in her bag.
Selina’s eyes scanned every man who looked about forty, one by one—
None of them seemed to fit.
That guy’s bald… definitely not.
Everyone who’s seen Rowan says he’s super handsome.
That one has terrible fashion sense… nope.
Rowan’s a designer—he’d definitely dress with taste.
Too short, too heavy… nope.
Rumor has it Rowan is nearly 6’3″…
“Sir, someone has requested your presence,” Jack said respectfully.
Logan stood. “You really don’t want to go to the lounge?”
Selina shook her head again.
“You go ahead. I’m here representing my university. I’m a contestant—I’m not allowed in the lounge. I’ll just go find my classmates.”
Each university only had a few competitors, and student participants weren’t provided a resting area.
Logan didn’t push.
“Alright. I’ll be back soon.”
Selina didn’t think much of it.
Today’s runway event was packed with big names, and fashion was one of Reid Group’s core businesses.
It made perfect sense for Logan to step away and talk business.
She made her way over to City A University’s designated space and squeezed into a small booth with her classmates.
Watching Selina walk away, Logan’s expression turned cold.
“Hunter’s back?”
“Yes. Mr. Nelson doesn’t have access to a secure phone, so this was the only way to communicate with you.”
“The people tracking him still haven’t let up? And the Nelson Family isn’t stepping in?”
Jack shook his head.
Logan let out a sarcastic laugh.
The Nelson Family had invested just enough in their adopted son to call it “raising” him, but expected Hunter to repay them tenfold. Even that wasn’t enough—they were determined to squeeze him dry.
And when he was no longer useful, they’d force him to hand over the family business.
Two months ago, Hunter realized someone was secretly investigating him—and it became serious enough to threaten his life.
That’s when he sent Riley back to the country.
Inside a secure, windowless room, a tall man with a gentle, refined air was sitting calmly in a chair.
“Logan, you made it.”
“Your phone and GPS are still showing you overseas. They won’t be able to trace you here. Say whatever you need to.”
It had been years since Logan and Hunter had seen each other.
Hunter smiled faintly, then got straight to the point.
“That woman next to you earlier…She’s your Mrs. Reid, right?”
