Chapter 289: Telepathy
People around them nodded slightly.
“Yeah… The real Mrs. Clark was killed by the mistress, who just happens to be Angelica’s adoptive mother. What Master Morris said—now that’s a real dagger to the heart.”
“Hasn’t the Morris Family always looked down on mistresses? How come this time they’re straight-up siding with one—insulting the real wife and the daughter of the Clark family like that?”
“And they’re saying Selina wronged Angelica? Please. Everyone in City A knows Selina was kicked out of her own home for Angelica and Natalia. The Morris Family must be blind.”
For some reason, Joe suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, like something deeply precious was slipping away from him.
Like he’d made some huge, irrational mistake.
Kyle’s rage vanished just as fast.
He stood there, stunned, mumbling to himself, unable to speak.
In that moment, he felt like he’d lost his mind. How could he say something like that?
Even scarier—he’d actually pictured Selina’s dead mom… as his mother.
No. No way.
His mother was the noble Mrs. Morris. She’d passed away years ago but had always held a place in his and his father’s hearts.
Selina’s mother? She died because of a cheating scumbag and a mistress. She was a joke in City A. And she raised someone like Selina—a loud, uncultured country girl.
They couldn’t possibly be the same person…
Angelica noticed the father and son from the Morris Family had spaced out.

She bit her lip. No—this can’t be happening. They can’t find out!
She quickly changed her expression, tearing up.
“Dad, Kyle… it’s my fault. Please don’t blame Selina. The event’s about to start—I’ll head backstage to get ready. I’m sorry. I really am…”
Before she could even finish, Angelica turned and ran off crying.
The Morris men snapped back to reality.
Angelica was their family. There was no need to feel sorry for Selina.
Kyle turned to chase after her.
Joe, however, looked back at Selina, his gaze lingering.
“Miss Selina,” he said coldly, “the difference in status between you and Angelica will only grow wider from here on out. I suggest you control yourself. Don’t let jealousy drive you to do something stupid. The Morris Family doesn’t take that lightly.”
“The same goes for you, Chairman Morris.”
A smooth, deep voice cut through the crowd.
Everyone looked over, eyes lighting up.
“Mr. Reid?!”
“Mr. Reid’s here too!”
“Of course—Selina is Mrs. Reid. No matter how their private life is, the Morris Family blatantly going after her like that? No way Mr. Reid would let that slide.”
Joe’s face stiffened.
Logan stood calm and collected. Joe might be older, but Logan’s status was on another level.
“Whatever the Morris Family can offer Angelica, I can give Selina just the same,” Logan said coolly. “You told Selina to remember Angelica is the Morris Family’s heiress—I’d like Angelica to remember that Selina is Mrs. Reid.”
The message was clear.
Joe’s throat tightened, but in the end, he said nothing. He turned and walked off, face grim.
“Take care, Chairman Morris.”
Logan said it casually, then turned to Selina and raised an eyebrow.
“Stunned, huh?”
Selina snapped out of it.
“Why are you here?”
“If I hadn’t shown up, were you planning to just stand there and let them trash you?” Logan said lightly. “Kyle told you to leave. You could’ve told him to get lost instead. This event was funded by Reid Group—if you want the Morris Family out, all you have to do is say the word.”
Selina sucked in a breath.
This man really knew how to swoop in like a hero.
But she shook her head.
“Forget it. I don’t want to stir up too much hate by acting too cocky.”
“Mrs. Reid, worried about making enemies?” Logan said with a half-smile. “But I’m not exaggerating. What’s mine is yours. You’re the investor behind this event. You absolutely have the right—and the power.”
Selina ran that sentence through her mind and came to a conclusion.
“So… I can do whatever I want?”
That’s perfect!
Her eyes visibly lit up, brimming with anticipation.
“Then can I look for someone?”
Logan suddenly had a bad feeling.
Selina swallowed and looked around shyly.
“You’re the investor. You must know if Rowan is coming. Tell me quietly—is he really here today?”
Luke had just arrived and hadn’t even had time to say hello when he was hit with this juicy bit of gossip.
“…?”
Wait, what? Selina, you’re asking your husband about the whereabouts of another man? Is that even appropriate?
And that man is Rowan. Rowan is literally Logan. Are you two doing some kind of roleplay?
Logan narrowed his eyes, his expression unreadable.
“Yeah. He’s here.”
“Really? Where is he?! I want to—”
Selina suddenly realized she was being way too obvious. She cleared her throat and tried to stay calm, speaking in a serious tone.
“I mean, he’s my mentor—he really guided me in design. I just wanted to take this chance to thank him for everything he’s done for me.”
“Oh? And how do you plan to thank him?”
Selina pulled a watch out of her bag.
“Look! This is a new one I just bought. I was planning to give it to Rowan as a gift. What do you think? Isn’t it pretty?”
“It is pretty.”
Selina got excited.
“Then—”
“But he’s not seeing anyone right now.” Logan lowered his eyes, his fingertip brushing across her lips. “You’ll see him when the time’s right. What’s the rush?”
“Sir, the organizers are asking for you,” Jack said.
Logan’s expression cooled slightly. He leaned in close.
“If anyone bothers you while I’m gone, just kick them out. Whatever happens, I’ve got your back.”
Selina watched him walk away, squinting slightly.
Why did it feel like Logan’s mood suddenly dipped when he heard “the organizers”?
After Logan left, Luke tiptoed over carefully.
He replayed the whole conversation in his head, stunned and a bit frantic.
Selina really didn’t know Rowan’s identity?
It was like he’d just stumbled upon Logan’s biggest secret, and he was practically giddy with the discovery.
“Selina, you’re trying to find Rowan?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
Luke looked mysterious.
“Have you ever considered the possibility that Rowan’s already around you?”
Selina hadn’t thought of that. She frowned.
“Someone I know?”
“Of course! Not just someone you know—someone close to you!”
Selina fell into thought.
She hadn’t considered that, but Rowan was an online friend. Maybe they had crossed paths in real life…
She mentally went through everyone she knew, but no one fit.
Luke started to panic and dropped a heavy hint.
“Why did Zara mock you? Because she thought you were wearing a knockoff. But it was actually one of Rowan’s original designs. So what does that tell you?”
That outfit came from Logan. Which means… Rowan is Logan!
Selina thought for a long moment, blinked, and said:
“It means… Rowan really cares about me?”
Luke: “…”
What?
He stood there in silence, genuinely unsure—Is she just this dense, or is she completely blind to what’s right in front of her?
Just as he was about to say something, the lights dimmed and the show officially began.
The host stepped onto the stage.
“Now, let’s welcome the organizer of tonight’s fashion show, Mr. Ellis Lee, along with previous design competition winner—Miss Angelica!”
Models started walking the runway, dressed in what was supposedly previous winning gown.
“Mrs. Reid, that championship gown… you were the one who actually designed it, weren’t you?”
In the darkness, Logan had returned. He leaned in close and whispered the words in her ear.
