Chapter 293: Brought It on Herself
Selina quickly pressed her finger against Logan’s lips, signaling him to stay quiet, then raised an eyebrow. “Who is it?”
“It’s me, Selina.”
Unexpectedly, it was Katie’s voice outside the door.
Selina’s interest was instantly piqued. “Mrs. Bryant is already on the verge of public disgrace, and Mr. Clark still let you tag along to the design competition?”
“You—” Katie’s anger flared, but for Angelica’s sake, she swallowed it back down.
Angelica had said that as long as Katie lured Selina into Ellis’s room today, Selina would become just another man’s plaything—never again able to stir up trouble.
“Selina, how can you say that? I came here for you.”
Katie deliberately put on a flustered expression. “I know Ellis falsely accused you two years ago. I found a witness—someone who can prove your innocence. Come with me!”
Selina got it now. This was Angelica’s plan.
Use Katie to lure her out, then toss her into Ellis’s bed.
She didn’t mind playing along with the mother-daughter act. “Oh? Mrs. Bryant believes I’m innocent now?”
“Y-Yes, of course! Selina, I know the kind of person you are. Come on, don’t keep him waiting. This might be your only chance!”
“Hmm… But I’m not sure Mrs. Bryant is so kindhearted. I don’t feel safe going with you. What should I do?”
Katie grew visibly impatient. “Do you even want to clear your name or not? Word is everyone’s out for your blood. They’re demanding you quit the competition. If you don’t prove yourself now, what, you’re actually going to drop out tomorrow?”
“I see…”

Logan watched as Selina pulled a hammer from the drawer and slipped it into her bag. Then she quietly cracked the door open.
“I’ll go with you. But Mrs. Bryant—you have to promise not to try anything.”
Katie lit up, grinning like she’d won.
What a joke. Did Selina really buy that promise? This idiot actually believed her!
Katie suppressed her excitement. “Selina, let’s go!”
Selina smirked, patted the bag holding the hammer, and followed her out.
…
Logan’s eyes lowered slightly.
Next to him, Luke was swallowing nervously. “Did you—did you see what she just took?”
A hammer!
Why would she bring a hammer? Killing someone is illegal!
Logan said calmly, “Go find Jack. Tell him to keep an eye on Angelica.”
Luke couldn’t help but ask, “What about you?”
Logan’s lips curled into a slow grin. “I’m keeping an eye on my Mrs. Reid.”
Luke immediately nodded, still shaken. “Yeah, you better. If Selina accidentally hacks someone up…”
“They all brought this upon themselves. I’m just worried about whether she’ll get hurt.”
Logan’s smooth reply left Luke completely speechless.
Someone help him. Is this couple totally insane?
…
Meanwhile.
Selina followed Katie through several turns into the guest room area.
“This far? We’re still not there?”
Selina asked casually, “Mrs. Bryant, we’re deep in the guest wing now. Who would be waiting for me here?”
Katie’s eyes darted, trying to keep her calm. “Almost there, almost there. Don’t rush, Selina. Think about it—there aren’t many people willing to speak up for you right now. It makes sense for this person to want privacy.”
Selina let out a short laugh.
“Here we are!”
With a beep, Katie opened the door to a guest room and pushed Selina inside.
It looked like a regular room, but the air held a strange scent. Selina raised an eyebrow—Angelica had really covered all the bases.
“Selina, have a seat. Drink some water.” Katie handed her a glass.
Selina glanced at it lazily. “Weren’t you saying someone wanted to see me? Where are they?”
Katie’s eyes were fixed on the glass, a little anxious. “Just drink some water first.”
Right then—click—the door shut behind them.
Selina raised an eyebrow. Did Katie think she was stupid? Was she really still trying to pull this tired old trap routine?
She was one hundred percent sure the water was drugged. But she’d come prepared.
“Mrs. Bryant, no offense, but I don’t trust what’s in this. How about this—you take the first sip.”
Selina grabbed another empty glass from nearby, tapped her finger on the rim, and poured half of the water into it.
Katie pretended to be annoyed. “Oh, come on, you still don’t trust me? Fine, I’ll drink some.”
She’d already taken the antidote earlier, so without hesitation, she downed the water. “See? Happy now?”
Selina seemed satisfied, looked away, and finished the rest in one gulp.
Katie was thrilled.
Selina drank it. She really drank it. Every last drop!
Ha! What an idiot. In the end, she’s still falling into my hands. Hilarious.
The door’s locked. The water’s been drugged. There’s no escape now.
Even if Mr. Reid shows up, so what? Once he sees Selina looking like a total mess, will he still want her?
And tomorrow morning, when everyone sees her in Ellis’s bed—what will they think?
Katie dropped the act completely, her smug face twisting. “You didn’t really think I was here to help prove your innocence, did you, you moron?”
Selina looked up at her.
Katie grinned like a maniac. “What a joke! I came to ruin you. No one’s getting in the way of my daughter’s success. You’re just an obstacle—of course I’m getting rid of you. You deserve a thousand deaths!”
“Truth is, I was in on it two years ago when you were framed. You think I’d help you? Please. You’re too naïve. Oh, and that water you just drank? Laced. Ellis will be here any minute. You’re not going anywhere.”
“Honestly, I should’ve just sent you and your dead mom to hell back then. Letting you live was the real mistake.”
“But don’t worry—it’s almost over now. Tomorrow morning, you’ll end it yourself, with shame so deep it’ll bury you. Everyone will think you seduced a judge. You’ll be done for. Let’s see you try to compete with Angelica after that!”
After Katie’s little meltdown, the room fell quiet for a moment.
Selina’s expression was unusually calm. “So this is the grand plan you two cooked up.”
Nothing original.
Katie was coming down from her high, starting to realize something was off.
Wait a second. Selina drank the drugged water. She’s in a locked room. She should be panicking right now—so why isn’t she? Where’s all this confidence coming from?
“Mrs. Bryant,” Selina suddenly asked, “you’re probably wondering why I’m still so calm, huh?”
Katie felt a jolt of panic.
Selina turned to her, chin resting on her hand, eyes sharp. “Katie, you’ve been the mistress-turned-wife for years, but apparently you gained no brains along the way. Did you seriously think I’d be dumb enough to walk into your trap and just let you win?”
She leaned in slowly. “Ever heard of the phrase: using someone’s own tactics against them?”
Right as the words landed, Katie’s voice cracked with fear. “What do you mean? What are you gonna do—?”
