Chapter 296: Spare Me the Fake Concern
Selina poked her head out, eyeing the crowd outside the door with a half-smile, clearly amused.

“So many people came to see me? I’m flattered, really.”

Joe hadn’t expected Selina to open the door just then—it cut him off mid-sentence, so he decided not to continue.

James, on the other hand, felt a twinge of disappointment that Joe hadn’t said anything. After all, while Joe and Selina might not know it, the Clark family did—Chairman Morris was Selina’s biological father.

If even her real father rejected her, then even if the truth came out someday and Angelica’s identity was exposed, Morris likely still wouldn’t acknowledge Selina.

Selina didn’t fully open the door, keeping most of herself hidden. But from inside, multiple male voices could be heard.

Everyone’s faces twisted in disgust.

“Three men in one night… She goes to City A University, right? Might as well have flushed her education down the toilet.”

“And she’s supposed to be the Clark family’s young lady? Selling herself like that—what trash.”

Selina narrowed her eyes, sweeping a cold gaze across the crowd.

The one who spoke first instantly felt nervous but quickly snapped back, defiant.

“What, you think you can shut us up? You did it—don’t want people talking now? You’re just trash.”

“Move aside!”

James stormed over from a short distance away. The moment he saw Selina, he slapped her across the face without hesitation.

“Filthy girl! I told you not to mess with the judges! The whole world’s talking about it—are you proud of yourself now?!”

Selina suddenly laughed.

“So that’s why you’re here, Dad? To scold me over that?”

James lifted his chin, face full of contempt.

“Scold you? I’m here to kick you out of this family!”

The crowd nodded in agreement—someone like her didn’t deserve the Clark name.

Selina’s expression turned icy.

“Then let me ask you something, James—before you hit me, did you have any proof at all that I seduced a judge?”

“Isn’t all the stuff going around online proof enough—”

“I’m your biological daughter. You believe strangers over me? You never even saw anything for yourself, but you instantly decided I was guilty. You talk about covering it up for me, but your actions are making it worse. It’s like you want the whole world to know. Tell me, am I really your daughter?”

Everything went quiet for a moment.

James’s face twisted, and then he exploded.

“You think you’re the victim here? You’re out of line! Completely out of line! I’m doing this for your own good! And this is the attitude I get?”

Angelica stepped in, pretending to be concerned.

“Don’t be mad at Dad, he’s just worried. Selina, please open the door. Let us come in, okay?”

Selina slowly scanned the crowd, her eyes lingering on each face.

Then she said, almost lazily: “Sorry. Not happening.”

That sentence sent James into a rage. Even Joe furrowed his brows.

People hoping to cozy up to the Clark family and Angelica jumped in to criticize:

“Selina, that’s enough. Do you even know how worried your dad and sister are? They rushed over here first thing this morning!”

“And you? You’re out here ruining the family’s reputation over a couple of men. Honestly, you should’ve stayed in the countryside. Coming back here’s been nothing but a disgrace to the Clarks.”

“Selling yourself for a spot in the finals, caught red-handed, and you still won’t admit it!”

Angelica smirked to herself.

A cheap woman like that could never recover.

Selina would end up just like her mother—humiliated, destroyed, and forgotten.

Don’t blame her for being ruthless—Selina got in her way.

The Clark family was hers.

The Morris family would be too.

Selina’s bloodline was too noble. People like her didn’t deserve to exist.

Still, on the surface, Angelica wiped away tears and put on the act.

“Please… enough. Selina, whatever you’re going through, I’ll help you. But how could you…”

Grandpa Clark avoided Selina’s gaze and sighed softly.

“Selina, the family forgave you the first time. But there can’t be a second. I’m deeply disappointed in you.”

Selina suddenly laughed.

Disappointed?

Two years ago, she hadn’t done anything. She had just returned to the Clark family, and back then—especially toward Grandpa Clark—she still held on to a shred of affection.

She had knelt before them and sworn she hadn’t seduced any judge.

She had countless pieces of evidence to prove her innocence.

And then what happened?

Katie destroyed the evidence.

Grandpa Clark said that without proof, there was nothing he could do—and used brute force to cover it all up.

Everyone in the Clark family pointed fingers, treated her like she was some dirty woman.

Had they all forgotten who orchestrated the whole thing? They played their parts so well, they really thought they were the good guys?

From this moment on, Selina would never bow her head to the Clarks again—and she no longer needed their trust.

She gave Grandpa Clark a cold glance, then pulled her gaze away with a mocking smile.

James’s face was hard.

“Selina, what are you hiding in that room? Open the door!”

Selina raised an eyebrow.

“You really want me to open it, Dad?”

James wanted nothing more than for Selina to be completely disgraced. He barked impatiently,

“Of course! Everyone’s talking about how you seduced a judge and slept with three men. And you still won’t admit it? What, do you expect us to clean up after you again? Get out here and open the damn door!”

Selina looked hesitant.

“Well… the thing is…”

Angelica’s group of friends piped up, dripping with sarcasm.

“What, the Clark family’s precious little princess is scared now?”

“Figures. That many guys in your bed—you’re too ashamed to show your face.”

“She’s already done it. What’s left to be embarrassed about?”

“Mr. Clark, you seriously need to discipline Selina. Look at her—so many people around and she still won’t open the door. She’s humiliating your family.”

James’s hatred for Selina boiled over. To him, she was just like Victoria back then—ungrateful, reckless.

Furious, he raised his foot and kicked the door hard.

“All you know how to do is seduce men. Just a pretty face with nothing behind it. I swear, I wish you weren’t my daughter—”

BANG.

James froze. His expression twisted in shock.

“Hu! I won again! Pay up, pay up!”

Luke slammed his mahjong tile down, cheering like a maniac.

“I’m on fire tonight!”

Around him sat several people—both men and women—all holding their heads like they had a migraine, with visible dark circles under their eyes.

Everyone outside stiffened.

Luke, Ethan, Alice, Freya…

All well-known names. Children of wealthy families, heirs in their own right.

All sitting casually in Selina’s room.

On the table were snacks and drinks—clear signs of an all-night poker or mahjong game and late-night hangout.

Wait—wait a minute!

Wasn’t the rumor that Selina had been… with three men?

Ethan groaned, exhausted.

“Logan, get him under control! Your wife lost again—now we’ve got to give Luke more money. We’re bleeding over here.”

Everyone subconsciously turned to the corner of the room.

A man sat on the sofa, legs crossed, holding a wine glass loosely in one hand.

He heard the commotion and chuckled casually.

“She lost again? Fine. I’ll pay.”

The crowd outside was stunned.

Logan.

That was Logan.

Mr. Reid himself was in the room.

He was Selina’s husband in name.

If Selina had really slept with any judge, there was no way Logan would be sitting there like that.

Luke, still hyped from his win, turned around to say something to Selina—only to find himself face-to-face with a full hallway of people.

He froze.

His voice trembled.

“Wh-what the hell? Why are there so many people? Since when is playing cards illegal?”
