Chapter 50: Comfort Through Actions Chapter 50: Comfort Through Actions A monumental favor, wasted on pleading for Natalia-what poor judgment from the Clark Family.  At the same time, Principal Taylor couldn’t help but feel sorry for Selina.  She had been slandered and bullied, and after finally proving her innocence, her family was still doing everything in their power to protect Natalia, completely ignoring the injustice she suffered.  Principal Taylor sighed and tried one last time.

Clark, perhaps you should take your focus off Natalia for a moment and pay more attention to Selina.

You might realize she’s a thousand times more capable than Natalia.”  But Grandpa Clark refused to accept that Selina could be better than Natalia.

Selina is different-she brought this on herself by not behaving.”  Having achieved his goal, Grandpa Clark didn’t want to linger.

“I’ll have Natalia back in school tomorrow.”  As Grandpa Clark left, a cold smirk crept onto Principal Taylor’s face.  Dean White couldn’t help but spit in disdain.

“An illegitimate child?

Natalia’s dressed in silk and eats delicacies-what suffering?

Meanwhile, the legitimate daughter gets no affection, and the whole family lives harmoniously with the mistress and her daughter?

What kind of twisted values are these?”  Principal Taylor shook his head.

“There’s no helping those who are blind to reason.

Mark my words: the Clark Family’s blind favoritism for the mistress and her illegitimate child will lead to their downfall.

When that day comes, it’ll be too late for regrets.”  The next afternoon, Natalia returned to school.  When Alice heard about it, she went to City A University to check on Selina.

Selina, are you okay?”  Selina shrugged indifferently.

It doesn’t bother me.

I knew they wouldn’t let Natalia get expelled.”  Alice’s heart ached for her.

I’m going to make Logan pamper you extra.”  Half a minute later, Selina’s phone rang.

Seeing Logan’s name on the screen, her cheeks began to flush.  His deep, unhurried voice came through.

“Alice tells me you’re upset.”  Selina blinked.

“I’m not.”  Logan’s eyes narrowed.

“Mrs.

Reid, I told you-don’t ever lie to me.”  Selina wasn’t lying this time.

“I know the Clark Family favors Natalia, so I’m not upset.”  But her words stirred something in Logan’s chest.

“I see.”  Selina wasn’t upset-not because she didn’t care, but because she had long accepted that the Clark Family would act this way.  Through repeated disappointments, she had grown numb and learned to ignore it.  Suppressing the strange feeling in his heart, Logan did something unusually childish for the first time.  After ending the call, he instructed Jack to expose Natalia’s behavior at City A University and to make sure the Carter Family caught wind of it.  He had never stooped to using public opinion as a weapon before.

But if it could make Selina happy, why not indulge in a bit of pettiness?  Selina stared at her phone, frowning in confusion.  What did Logan mean by “I see”?

Why had he hung up without offering any comfort, and yet she still felt inexplicably better?  Alice raised an eyebrow, tilting her head.

Also, what’s with your contact names?

Why do you just call him ‘Logan’?”  “I saw his contact for you once-it was ‘Mrs.

Reid.’ Are you two giving each other status updates?

At least make it something a little more affectionate.”  Selina hesitated, then asked, “Then what should I change it to?”  Alice’s eyes gleamed mischievously.

“Give me your phone.”  Trusting her completely, Selina handed over her phone.

Alice typed something quickly before returning it with a mysterious grin.  “Don’t check now.

Wait until the next time he calls.

I promise it’ll melt your heart!”  Selina: “…”  Why did this feel like she had been sold out, yet was still expected to count the money for her seller?  Katie accompanied Natalia out of the car.  The murmurs from the surrounding students were filled with disdain.  “Why is Natalia back?”  “Emma got expelled, but the instigator gets to keep attending classes?”  “Having a powerful family really makes a difference…”  “She’s just an illegitimate child.

Even Selina never uses family connections like this, but this illegitimate child acts so arrogant.”  Natalia’s face darkened, her expression changing with each remark.

When she finally reached a secluded spot, she broke down into tears.  “Mom!

Why won’t Dad punish them?”  James had been concerned about Natalia being mistreated and even suggested expelling all the students who had been mean to her.

But Katie had stopped him.  Katie soothed her, “Natalia, this incident has already reached the Carter Family.

If we push to expel those students now, Old Mr.

Carter will be upset.

Don’t you still want to marry Ryan?”  Natalia stomped her foot in frustration.

“Ugh, why hasn’t that old man died yet?”  Katie’s eyes sparkled with a plan.

“Natalia, your classmates are still in their early twenties, fresh and inexperienced.

If you lower yourself, show some generosity, and give them a little goodwill, your reputation can turn around in less than a month.”  With that, Katie instructed her assistant to buy over thirty cups of bubble tea and deliver them to Natalia’s class, greeting everyone kindly.  “You’re all Natalia’s classmates, right?

I know Natalia was impulsive yesterday, but from now on, she’s determined to get along with everyone.”  Natalia also played the role of a sweet and obedient girl, biting her lip shyly.

Class president, I’ll treat you to a party at the AS Grand Hotel.

Everyone in the class is welcome to join.”  The classmates exchanged wide-eyed glances, whispering among themselves.  “Maybe Natalia’s mom isn’t as bad as Selina said…”  “Yeah, maybe we misunderstood her.”  A smug smile crept onto Natalia’s face, but venom lingered in her eyes.  …

Selina didn’t pay much attention to Natalia’s affairs.

Opening her email, she saw a message:  “I found a bit of information.

She had always thought something felt off.  Her mother had gone to great lengths to leave the inheritance to her-why add such a condition?  Even if her mother had a good relationship with the Carter Family at the time, relationships change over twenty years.

Why risk it?  The message continued:  “Perhaps you should look for photos of your mother from back then and see if anyone from the Carter Family appears in them.”  Photos from back then… That was a good idea.  Selina immediately thought of her phone.

She began searching for it but soon realized it was missing.  …It must have been when she got home and carelessly tossed it somewhere.  “Mrs.

Reid, are you looking for something?” Logan’s low voice interrupted her as he took a sip of tea, his Adam’s apple moving subtly.  Still rummaging around, Selina replied, “I can’t find my phone.

Have you seen it?”  Logan raised an eyebrow and casually dialed her number.

A ringtone echoed from under the sofa.  Selina’s face lit up.

“It’s here!”  She bent down to retrieve it, but Logan moved faster, picking up the phone.

His gaze flickered as if he had spotted something amusing.  With an intrigued smile, he asked, “Mrs.

Reid, what exactly did you name me in your contacts?”  Selina froze, her expression stiffening.  Wait!

Alice had changed his contact name, and she hadn’t had a chance to check it yet!  So… what on earth had she named him?
