- Chapter 82 - Chapter 82 A Public Embarrassment
Chapter 82: A Public Embarrassment Chapter 82: A Public Embarrassment Logan narrowed his eyes slightly, instantly noticing her tension. He didn’t expose her.
“Justin is the eldest son of the Gray Family.
He owns a racetrack.
I happen to have two invitations-how about I take you horseback riding to relax?” Selina nearly choked on her breath, bracing herself for Logan’s interrogation. To her surprise, he instead offered to take her riding? Wait… so he didn’t suspect her connection to Justin? Her nerves still taut, she raised her voice slightly in guilt.
“Uh, uh?
Horseback riding?
Sure…” Logan chuckled softly, his expression thoughtful. Hmm, it seemed Mrs.
Reid had a rather significant connection to Justin as well. He maintained a gentle demeanor.
“Why are you so excited, Mrs.
Reid?
You’re even stammering.
Do you know how to ride?” Selina’s throat tightened.
Someone who grew up in the countryside like her shouldn’t know how to ride, so she shook her head. “No, I don’t… I was just thinking you could teach me, so I got a little excited.” Logan’s gaze swept over her eyes.
“You want me to teach you?” Selina nodded, feeling even more flustered. Logan smirked meaningfully.
“Fine, Mrs.
Reid.
When I have the time, I’ll teach you.” … Half an hour later, they arrived at the racetrack. Selina spent the car ride strategizing on how to convincingly act like someone who had never ridden a horse. But as soon as they got out of the car, the racetrack manager approached them.
“Mr.
Reid, Mr.
Gray has requested to meet with you about an important matter.” Logan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he paused and glanced at Selina. “Mrs.
Reid, why don’t you enjoy yourself for a bit?” Afraid of revealing her secret, Selina was all too happy to agree and nodded eagerly. Still… what did Justin want with Logan? After Logan’s figure disappeared, Selina began wandering around the racetrack. As she waited idly for Logan’s return, a loud neigh suddenly caught her attention. Turning toward the sound, her eyes lit up immediately. Standing before her was a snow-white horse with a small black mark on its leg.
She recognized it instantly-it was the same horse she used to care for in Country B. She hadn’t expected Justin to bring her horse back when he returned to the country. Selina was about to approach when she overheard an argument nearby, causing her to pause mid-step. “I want this horse!
Don’t you know who I am?!” Selina narrowed her eyes and glanced over. Vivian? Vivian had arrived with a group of young socialites and had taken a liking to the snow-white horse at first sight. However, the racetrack manager firmly refused to let her have it.
Frustrated and angry, Vivian snapped, “I’m the eldest daughter of the Perry Family!
Do you dare offend the Perry Family?!” The manager, caught in a difficult position, lowered his head and tried to explain.
“Miss Perry, you may choose any other horse on the premises, but this one already has an owner…” “If it has an owner, then where is that owner?” Vivian stomped her foot and turned to a man beside her with a pitiful look.
“Dylan, they’re obviously looking down on me and bullying me!” Dylan, one of Vivian’s many suitors, immediately scowled at the manager upon hearing her complaint. “Vivian wants this horse.
Don’t you understand plain language?
If you upset me, I’ll make sure you regret it.
Now, get out of my sight!” “But Mr.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Gray specifically instructed…” The manager tried to protest, but Dylan grabbed the reins of the white horse and sneered, “Then go ahead and tell Mr.
Gray to come here himself.
A servant like you has no right to stop me.” The manager clenched his fists in silent frustration.
Faced with these powerful individuals, he dared not escalate the situation further. “Miss Perry has an eye for this horse?” Selina walked over with a faint smirk.
“Good taste.” The manager’s eyes lit up when he saw her.
“Miss Cla-“Â Selina raised a hand to stop him.
The manager immediately understood and corrected himself with a respectful tone. “Miss Perry, enjoy yourself.” With that, he stepped back, no longer interfering. Vivian, delighted to have secured the horse, immediately felt smug, assuming the manager had backed down out of fear. She couldn’t resist flaunting her victory in front of Selina. “Selina, I didn’t expect to see you here.
Where’s your number tag?
Why aren’t you picking a horse?” Selina picked up on Vivian’s hostile tone and smiled knowingly.
“I don’t have a number tag.” After entering, every guest was given a tag to select a horse.
However, Selina already had her own horse at the racetrack, so she didn’t need one. But Vivian misunderstood. She raised her voice, making sure everyone could hear her. “Oh dear, that’s my fault.
I forgot-you didn’t get an invitation, so of course, you wouldn’t have a tag.
Who brought you here and then left you all alone?” The crowd’s gazes toward Selina turned condescending. So, Selina had been brought in by someone else?
A woman who clung to men for status-exactly the type they despised. Vivian, still sour from Logan rejecting her invitation yesterday, saw Selina standing alone and assumed her “sponsor” had left her.
Surely, it couldn’t have been Logan who brought her here… With that thought, Vivian grew more confident.
“Selina, next time, just ask me if you want to come.
I’m friends with Mr.
Gray.
I’ll make sure he gives you an extra invitation.” Someone nearby couldn’t resist chiming in.
“Vivian has such great connections.
Even Mr.
Gray holds her in high regard.” “Miss Clark, shouldn’t you thank Vivian?
Otherwise, you might not get another chance like this!” Vivian’s vanity soared as she basked in the flattery.
Her gaze turned superior, as though she had finally outshone Selina. “I heard you’ve never ridden a horse before?” Vivian said with a patronizing tone. Selina suddenly smiled.
“That’s right.
So?” Vivian had had a rough few days.
With Reid Group pressuring her, Perry Family had no choice but to demand she apologize. But what had she done wrong?
Selina had only gotten a little burn.
Why all the fuss? Today, Vivian was determined to put Selina in her place. She sneered, “Equestrianism is a fundamental skill for socialites.
I can’t believe you don’t know how to ride.
No matter, I’ll teach you.
It’d be embarrassing if you disgraced yourself in public.” Several socialites aligned with the Perry Family chimed in disdainfully: “She doesn’t even know how to ride?
How embarrassing.” “Well, she’s from the countryside.
How could she compare to Vivian?” Selina wasn’t naive.
She immediately recognized that Vivian was trying to humiliate her under the guise of teaching. Teach her to ride? Selina turned slightly, winking at the snow-white horse.
The horse neighed in response. In that moment, they silently communicated, though no one noticed. Vivian reveled in the mocking comments around her and, brimming with pride, declared, “Selina, watch and learn.” She grabbed the reins, savoring the thought of trampling Selina’s confidence as she prepared to mount the horse. But the unexpected happened in an instant. The previously docile horse suddenly reared up, thrashing wildly.
Vivian, unable to secure her grip on the reins, let out a shriek as she was flung to the ground with a loud thud. The scene fell into stunned silence.
Everyone stared at Vivian, sprawled on the ground, exchanging uncertain glances. What just happened…? No one dared to speak, fearful of offending the Perry Family’s eldest daughter. Suddenly, a clear, feminine voice broke the silence. Selina feigned surprise.
“Miss Perry, weren’t you about to teach me how to ride?
How is it that you can’t even get on the horse?”
