Chapter 97: Are You Trying to Seduce Him?
Boarding a plane?
A dozen hours?
That woman is returning from abroad? Was Logan really that close with a female friend? “Madam, dinner is ready,” Miller Butler interrupted Selina’s thoughts.
“How was your practice?” Selina snapped back to reality.
“Very smooth.
I definitely won’t disappoint Old Mrs.
Perry.” Miller Butler shook his head.
“You should start calling her ‘Grandmother’ now.
Alright, go eat.” Selina nodded but suddenly thought of something.
“Miller Butler, was Logan on the phone just now?” Miller Butler’s expression stiffened slightly but quickly returned to normal.
“Yes, sir has a friend returning to the country soon.
You don’t need to overthink it.” Selina frowned. She wasn’t overthinking at all… But the way Miller Butler phrased it made her feel like he was trying too hard to prevent any misunderstandings. What kind of woman would make Miller Butler so anxious to clarify that she shouldn’t think too much? A close female friend? Never mind, it had nothing to do with her.
Selina casually asked, “What would be a good gift for Grandmother Perry’s birthday?” “Well…” “If Mrs.
Reid wants to know, why not ask me?” Logan had walked in at some point, the corners of his lips curling slightly.
“Grandmother likes landscape paintings.
If you have connections, you could get her one as a gift.” Landscape paintings… Selina blinked.
What a coincidence.
Back in Country B, she and Justin had met a renowned landscape artist! But then again, Logan was the heir of the Carter Family, a family famous for calligraphy and painting.
Since Grandmother Perry was connected to them by marriage, it made sense that she’d appreciate such art. Selina mentally connected the dots.
“Does she have a favorite artist?” Logan replied indifferently, “She’s fond of Gordon King, who retired a few years ago.” Selina: “…” That was… quite the coincidence. Because the landscape artist she knew was also Gordon King. But then again, Gordon was a legendary figure in the art world.
It wasn’t strange that Grandmother Perry admired him. Selina came to terms with it and her eyes twinkled.
“Then I’ll go out tomorrow.” She genuinely liked Grandmother Perry and wanted to make sure she had a wonderful birthday. A painting was an easy gift to arrange. …
The next day, Selina arranged to meet Justin at Mr.
King’s private gallery to pick up the artwork. Gordon had never truly retired-he simply refused to let his works be commercialized. His paintings had been ridiculously overvalued, straying from their original purpose, so he publicly announced his retirement.
However, he continued traveling across the country, painting for the sheer love of art. Justin had collected many of Mr.
King’s unpublished works. Thirty minutes later, Selina arrived at the gallery. The gallery, Evergreen Study, was located in a secluded estate in the heart of the city, completely untouched by the hustle and bustle outside. In just five minutes of walking, she had already seen five luxury cars. Selina clicked her tongue-Justin was truly a business genius. As she stepped inside, a staff member dressed like a scholar’s apprentice guided her toward the exhibition hall.
“Miss Clark, please take your time browsing.
Mr.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Gray will be here shortly.” Selina nodded and stopped in front of a particular painting. She had barely begun admiring it when she suddenly heard approaching footsteps. Something felt off. Sure enough, the next second, a sharp, mocking voice echoed through the gallery. “Selina, are you here to buy a painting?
Stop pretending to be rich.
This place only sells masterpieces-do you even have the taste to appreciate them?” Selina narrowed her eyes.
Avery? Several other guests turned to look, clearly annoyed by the commotion. Selina didn’t even raise her eyelids: “After following Natalia for so many years, have you only learned to bully others?
If you can’t appreciate it, you can’t buy it?
Do you think you own this store?” “You!” Avery fumed.
“You’re just a country bumpkin!
Even if you buy it, you wouldn’t understand it.
What’s the point?” She had heard that this gallery had ties to Justin, so she had deliberately dressed up, putting on a facade of sophistication in hopes of a chance encounter with him. But instead of running into Justin, she had unexpectedly bumped into Selina! Avery’s mind raced, and suddenly, a brilliant idea struck her.
She gasped dramatically, “You’re not here to seduce Mr.
Gray, are you?!” Selina raised an eyebrow.
“Seduce?” Avery, feeling as if she had finally caught Selina in the act, shouted, “How shameless can you be?!
Do you really think someone like Mr.
Gray is within your reach?
I know he’s talented and handsome, but look at yourself-you’re nothing!” Her loud voice drew the attention of everyone in the gallery. “Seduce Mr.
Gray?” “This is Evergreen Study-an artistic sanctuary!
How can there be such an indecent woman here?” Avery smirked smugly.
“Selina, do yourself a favor and drop your pathetic little scheme.
It’s embarrassing.” Selina casually tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Don’t project your own thoughts onto me.
If anyone here is scheming to seduce, we both know who it is.” Avery stiffened, realizing that Selina was mocking her.
“You-you’re spouting nonsense!
I was even thinking of putting in a good word for you with Mr.
Gray, but since you’re so ungrateful, you can suffer the consequences!” Selina feigned curiosity.
“You have the power to plead my case to Justin?” The people around them perked up at this revelation. Someone who could influence Mr.
Gray?
That was definitely someone worth currying favor with. Avery puffed up her chest.
“Of course!
So what if Mr.
Gray seemed impressed with you at the Carter Family estate last time?
In the end, he chose Natalia!” “Mr.
Gray values Natalia’s connections, and for her sake, he’ll definitely give me some respect.
If I say you need to leave, you’ll be out of here in no time!” Selina’s eyes glimmered. From the way Avery was talking, it was clear that she had no idea about the real situation. Justin had returned to the country because of her, but Natalia must have deliberately kept that fact hidden.
And Avery, the fool, had bought the lie completely. Wasn’t this a golden opportunity? Selina’s lips curved into an enigmatic smile.
“Justin chose Natalia?” Avery straightened her back, full of confidence.
“That’s right!” Selina chuckled lightly.
“But did Natalia never tell you the truth?
That Justin went to the Carter Family because he’s my business partner?” “Mr.
Gray went to Clark Group to discuss a partnership with me.
His connection with Natalia is nothing more than a passing acquaintance.
So tell me, Avery-whose influence do you think matters more?
Natalia’s or mine?” Avery’s expression froze, her confidence crumbling.
“W-what did you say?” Justin and Selina were business partners?
But Natalia had insisted it was all fake! That can’t be true! Avery’s eyes burned with fury.
“You’re lying!
If Mr.
Gray wouldn’t even collaborate with Natalia, why would he partner with you?!
Guards!
This woman is spreading falsehoods about Mr.
Gray!
Throw her out-“ “I think you’re the one who should get lost.” A cold, chilling male voice cut through the air. Avery froze in place. Justin walked into Evergreen Study with a sharp, icy expression, his gaze fixed on her like a dagger. “Miss Bryant, may I ask what gives you the right… to throw out my distinguished guest?” “Distinguished guest… what?” Avery’s brain short-circuited. She stammered, scrambling to explain, “N-no, Mr.
Gray, it’s not like that!
Selina was the one being disrespectful!
She was the one spreading lies about you, so I-“Â Justin cut her off coldly.
“You’re Natalia’s cousin, aren’t you?”
