Chapter 111: Sparks Ignite II
That first touch of their lips had instantly stolen Amelia’s breath. She gasped against his lips but was quickly captured again when Matteo deepened the kiss.
It started out slow― his movements were hesitant, waiting for Amelia to push him away or reject his advances. Perhaps he should’ve asked, maybe he should’ve waited for her to get more comfortable with him, but he had one too many beers under Aiden’s influence and that little source of alcohol was enough to fuel his courage.
When Amelia reached forward, Matteo thought that she was going to push him away, and with all due right. However, contrary to what he thought, her fingers tightened against the fabric of his winter coat, pulling him forward instead so that whatever remaining distance between them was instantly lost.
This small act threw all reasoning out the window. Matteo’s hands moved down from her chin to her shoulders, then slowly made their way to her waist, resting on the curve of her hip. He tugged her gently closer towards him, holding her firmly in place when she gasped in surprise.
On the other hand, Amelia felt as though her entire body was on fire. It was as though an explosion had rang through her brain, causing her sight to grow fuzzy and her body to burn with a lustful sensation.
Matteo Montgomery had always been a sight for sore eyes, but never had she thought of him like this― like a carnal sin that was begging to be committed.
When they finally tore apart, Amelia looked up at him, her eyes glazed over. His were, too, filled with unspoken desire, his cheeks red, and his lips slightly swollen and pink from their intense make out.
“You…” she said, her voice hoarse and filled with want, “Matteo, you’re my superior at work. This… This isn’t―”
“And we’re also engaged,” he softly reminded. Matteo leaned forward, pressing a kiss on her cheek, then her jaw, then her neck.
A soft whimper fled from Amelia’s lips, her knees quivering as they weakened into jelly. If it weren’t for the fact that Matteo was holding her up, she would’ve fallen to the floor in a boneless heap, no doubt.
“You’re soon to become my wife,” Matteo said. Another kiss, this time, square on her lips. “You didn’t think I was joking all those times I asked about your opinions on our wedding, did you?”
Amelia looked at him, wide-eyed and shocked. She did, in fact, think that he was just joking. After all, shouldn’t Matteo’s main goal be getting rid of his and Emmeline’s seemingly inevitable engagement?
He had already completed his goal. They could very well just break up a few months later and claim that they had some irreconcilable differences and chose to part ways. There wasn’t a need to get married just for this.
“We’ve known each other for a few mere months,” Amelia said. On the outside, she tried her best to remain calm. However, on the inside, everything had already been set aflame. She hurriedly pushed Matteo away. “This is moving along way too quickly.”
However, she lacked strength in her arms, and Matteo caught her wrist all too easily. He brought her hand up, and without warning, pressed his lips against the inner side of her wrist where her blood vessels were. Amelia let out a tiny squeak but wasn’t allowed to dart too far away due to how Matteo held onto her.
“I’ve known from the moment we met that you’re the one I want to marry,” Matteo said, his gaze determined and firm.
“We met in a club,” Amelia slowly said. “I was getting harassed and embarrassed by my then-husband.” Awful memories flooded her mind. “That is no place to fall in love, Mr. Montgomery.”
Again with the ‘Mr. Montgomery’. She was drawing a line between them, but she wasn’t making a firm stance at all. That line was blurry at best.
Matteo shook his head and leaned in, tenderly kissing the top of her head.
“‘Mr. Montgomery’?” he echoed, the deep rumble of his baritone causing Amelia’s hair to stand. “What did I tell you about calling me by my name when we’re alone?”
Then he moved down, leaving a kiss on her forehead. Amelia gasped, a sound that was as wondrous as the gentle chime of the choir bells in Matteo’s ears. He continued, this time, leaving a kiss on the tip of her nose.
Eventually, Amelia could stand it no longer. She could feel the tips of her ears turning red.
Matteo was bold tonight― much bolder than she ever remembered him to be. She couldn’t have imagined Matteo would say something so blatantly direct if it were the first week she had met him. Back then, he seemed like an ice wall intent on keeping his secrets. Now, every emotion and thought was hung on his features even if he didn’t say it out loud.
Oh hell. Even if he was just fooling around, would Amelia lose anything if she didn’t let her heart fall so deep into the abyss like what had happened with Caleb?
If she just stayed right at the edge where it was safe, they could enjoy each other’s company without all that heartbreak. It wouldn’t be too bad to have someone to romance, especially when this person already made her occasionally giddy and her heart to flutter.
She was married once before. The pleasures of the flesh between a man and a woman weren’t anything new to her.
“Matteo,” she said, his name escaping her lips in a breathy whisper. That sent Matteo’s blood rushing through his veins, his heart thumping extra quickly at the sound of his name rolling off her tongue in such an angelic voice.
He smirked in the dark, cupping Amelia’s cheeks before pulling her face close.
“Good girl.”
Then, he closed the distance between them once more. This time, Amelia matched him in passion and intensity, their winter clothes quickly lying scattered across the bedroom floor.
