Marry My Billionaire Second Husband - Chapter 154
Chapter 154: Thrive
Will Walton’s lip curled derisively at Carlo’s comment.
“I see you’re still lacking manners, boy.” He sneered. “Who do you think you are addressing me by my full name?”
“Come on, Father, you should be more forgiving. This boy can’t keep anything more complicated than one thought rattling in his head,” Caleb said, sounding bored, but there was a nasty glint in his eyes as he leaned over Carlo’s cubicle. An idle hand reached down and flicked at the succulent on display.
Carlo was immediately on edge. That little plant was a gift from Amelia, who hoped for his career to flourish like the plant. Caleb tugged viciously at a leaf, before picking it up in his large hands.
“Hey, put it back! It’s not yours!” Carlo exclaimed, trying to snatch it back, but Caleb moved away in time. He tossed the little plant up and down in his hands.
Will Walton gave an arrogant sniff. “Your rudeness is intolerable. I will be speaking to your supervisor immediately. Is this how you treat guests that visit the company?”
An ugly flush crawled up Carlo’s cheeks. He had only been here a week, and he couldn’t afford to lose this lucrative internship.
Why did this pair of shitty father-and-son duo even bother to visit? They had no business with the Montgomerys!
“Of course not, Mr. Walton and Mr. Walton,” Caleb said with gritted teeth. “How may I help you?”
“Hmph, that’s better.” Will Walton looked down on him and scoffed. “You will never be useful to me, no matter how high you climb here. So stop pretending that you’re worth something and go back to the gutter where you belong. Having you here is just a disgrace.”
“How is that so?” Carlo asked, his eyes flashing. He tried to keep his tone polite in front of this old man, but it was hanging by a thread. “I’m just doing my best to work. You’re the one bothering me… Mr. Walton.”
“Is there a problem, distinguished gentlemen?” Aria Heard’s voice echoed through the office, and she strode towards the visitors. There was a polite smile on her face as she caught sight of the visitors. “Why, I did not expect our humble department to receive such honored guests, Mr. Walton and Mr. Walton!”
“I have some news regarding your newest hire here,” Caleb said. “Tell me, what do you think of Carlo here?”
Aria blinked bemusedly. “Carlo? He’s one of my interns. So far, I’ve had no problems with him. He is a quick study and eager to learn.”
Carlo straightened his back at the praise.
Caleb’s lip curled. He was disappointed that this brat wasn’t disappointing his bosses, but he could help with that.
“Come on, Miss Aria, we’re all professionals here. You can speak the truth. Carlo here is a beneficiary of the Hope for Scholars charity, and Matteo Montgomery’s pet project. He personally paid his way for Carlo to enter the company, so of course you have no choice but to speak well of him.”
“He did not! I won my place fair and square!” Carlo exclaimed, standing up in outrage. Caleb had purposely raised his voice to spread the news, and his fellow interns were giving Carlo looks of disbelief, hurt, and anger.
“I’ll believe it when pigs fly,” Will Walton declared. “Your grades were abysmal at best. And now you’re telling me you scored top five in your school in the span of a month? Do you think the rest of us are as easy to fool as your teachers?”
Carlo balled his hands into fists. He wanted nothing more than to punch their sorry eyes out.
“How… How do you know his grades?” Aria Heard asked curiously. Their company had plenty of interns, but it was near unheard of for a random charity case to incite so much attention.
A contrite expression crossed Caleb’s face. “Truthfully, we were considering getting him as an intern after hearing about his circumstances. However, when we dug deeper into his background, we realized he had a history of delinquent behavior, and his rise in grades was awfully suspicious.”
“As such, we’ve come to let you know about it. I understand Matteo Montgomery might want to aid his fiancée with her projects, but he should not jeopardize the company’s interests.”
As if to punctuate his statement, Caleb handed Aria a series of folders, containing Carlo’s disciplinary records for her to look at.
Carlo bit his tongue so hard he could taste blood. They neglected to mention his delinquent behavior happened after Will Walton heartlessly tossed him away like a sack of garbage the moment his legitimate son returned from playing house with Amelia Kentwood.
If he could, he would have screamed the truth of his parentage from the top of his lungs.
But he held his tongue. If he told the truth, everyone would know he was the bastard son of Will Walton. He would never be rid of his shadow.
Then again, everyone was looking at him with varying levels of suspicion in their eyes. Even his supervisor, who had been nothing but cordial with him, had a vaguely betrayed look in her eyes.
“I swear, I’ve changed for the better,” Carlo promised, desperation entering his voice. “Look, Miss Aria, have I caused trouble since I arrived?”

“It has only been a week,” Caleb said, almost sounding bored. “I’m not surprised you can at least keep up the act for that long.”
“I’m not acting!” Carlo exclaimed.
“Carlo, take a seat,” Aria said firmly. “I’ll have to discuss this matter with the other managers. Mr. Walton and Mr. Walton, thank you for flagging this matter.”
“Always happy to help,” Caleb said sincerely. When Aria walked back to her office, he turned to Carlo and smirked.
“You should start packing your bags. Don’t think that just because you have Amelia supporting you, you’re untouchable,” Caleb whispered viciously into Carlo’s ear. His hand slammed the succulent back on the table with so much force that the poor little plant fell out of its pot, the soil spilling all over the pristine surface.
“My plant!” Carlo quickly scooped it back inside. “You fucking bastard, why did you do that for?”
“Amelia gave you this, didn’t she?” Caleb asked knowingly. “Poor boy. You’re nothing to her. So take a hint and leave this company, before I oust you personally.”
“And who are you to make judgements about my employees?” A new voice cut through the fray, and Carlo whirled around to find Matteo Montgomery, staring down at Caleb Walton with fury in his eyes.
