Chapter 163: Wedding Dress
This new dress had retained the original shape and silhouette, but where the nasty gash used to be was now artfully concealed by a series of winding daisies embroidered into the fabric, reminiscent of the flower crowns Amelia had made with her mother.
Daisies were her mother’s favorite flower.
Instinctively, her eyes watered as memories flooded her mind. Matteo squeezed her hand, and Amelia gave her a tiny sniff.
“Is this… alright?” Jenna asked hesitantly as her gaze darted from Amelia’s wet eyes and Matteo’s supportive silence. “Oh dear, here’s a tissue, I’m sorry I had to change the design, but―”
“It’s perfect, Jenna.” Amelia swallowed the lump in her throat. “I love it. You’ve pulled off a miracle.”
Amelia wasn’t saying it to be polite.
In order for the new addition to not stand out, Jenna had also embroidered other parts of the dress, transforming the demure design into something more rustic, yet no less elegant.
If Amelia had not seen the tear in the original dress with her own eyes, she would not have known that this was a repair job. The new dress seemed good enough to stand as an original!
A weight seemed to fall off Jenna’s shoulders, and she let out a sigh of relief.
“Then… would you like to try it on now?” Jenna offered. “If there’s any need for alterations, I can note them down today.”
Amelia agreed. There was no point in delaying it since she had her heart set on this dress, to begin with, but then she couldn’t help the faint hint of sadness when she realized that her father wasn’t here to admire it with her. There was only Matteo, and tradition dictated that he shouldn’t be seeing her in her wedding dress before the wedding day itself.
As though he knew what she was thinking, Matteo asked her, “Would you like me to go? I can fetch your father and Cherry here if you want.”
His eyes were understanding and he patiently waited for her answer.
‘Damn the traditions!’ Amelia thought to herself. With a man as kind and loving as Matteo for a husband, no superstition could destroy their marriage.
“No, it’s fine,” Amelia said. “But how about you? Don’t you want it to be a surprise?”
After all, most grooms were awestruck at the beauty of their brides when they first walked down the aisle. Even Caleb pretended to find Amelia beautiful, once upon a time when they met at the registry.
“There’s no need,” Matteo replied easily. “As long as it’s you who is walking towards me, I’ll be happy enough. What you wear, or don’t wear, does not matter.”
Amelia could only give him a watery smile in response, and Jenna sighed wistfully. “Young love is such a wonderful thing! Mr. Montgomery, you can take a seat on the sofa, and I’ll help your darling Amelia here with her outfit.”
Matteo pressed one last kiss to her knuckles and then moved over to the sofa. Jenna led her to the changing room that was just next to the waiting area, separated by a pair of thick velvet curtains.
“Sorry it’s so cramped,” Jenna said, and Amelia had to laugh. This changing room was nearly the size of two of her childhood bedrooms put together! There was more than enough room, even though there was a swath of fabric with the dress.
She soon began the painstaking process of changing into the dress. Thankfully, Jenna was incredibly skilled, and she had the foresight to provide the right type of undergarments for such an occasion.
All Amelia had to do was follow her instructions faithfully and soon she found herself clad in beauty. The soft silk wrapped around her body like a lover’s embrace, and Amelia found herself staring at the full-length mirror in awe.
Her shoulders and collarbones were on full display, and only the barest hint of cleavage was showing. The corset was jeweled, but the skirts took all the attention in their forested detail.
Even with her unstyled hair lying flat on her head, and a face without makeup on, she still felt stunning. Such was the power of Jenna’s wedding dress.
“Wow Jenna…” Amelia murmured breathlessly as she slowly turned around to stare at the details on the dress. “You’ve really outdone yourself.”
“Nonsense.” Jenna waved off her praise as she bustled behind Amelia, checking the fit of her dress. “Is this too tight, my dear? I could loosen it for you if you like. I didn’t get your exact size back then.”
“It’s fine,” Amelia said, now feeling her waist. Come to think of it, she hadn’t been exercising. Since she was now Matteo’s fiancé, she didn’t need to hurry off to other part-time jobs. In fact, she had been practically sedentary, if one didn’t take into account their bedroom activities.
Was it her imagination, or did she seem wider around the middle already?
“Maybe you should keep it looser,” Amelia said faintly. “I’ve not been exercising.”
Jenna let out a small laugh. “There’s no worry. You’ll be here for dress fittings until the day of the wedding. As long as you can give me a day’s notice, I can work my magic! Now, where’s the veil… I’ll bun up your hair real quick first and pin it up, just to give you an idea of how you’d look. Of course, I have an entire catalog of hairstyles for you to choose from―”

Jenna’s mouth rattled a mile a minute as she quickly pulled out a lace veil from one of the shelves, along with a tiara lined with jeweled flowers.
“Yes, this will do nicely,” she muttered to herself, and Amelia obediently held still as Jenna expertly tied her hair into a bun and secured the tiara and veil on her.
“What do you think?” Jenna asked, before smacking her own forehead. “Oh wait, how could I forget to get a pair of heels! And accessories! I must be going senile in my old age. Do you want necklaces? Or earrings?”
“I think I should pay my husband-to-be a visit,” Amelia said, nearly vibrating with excitement. “The shoes can wait.”
Jenna smiled and told Amelia to wait. She cleared her throat and popped her head from the curtain.
“Mr. Montgomery, are you ready to witness a goddess descending down to earth?” Jenna asked mischievously.
“I find myself in need of divine intervention,” Matteo replied seriously. “Please grant me the honor.”
Jenna laughed and then went to pull the curtains aside, revealing Amelia in her new wedding dress.
“Behold, your dearest wife.”
