Chapter 188: Lodge A Report
Amelia could only restrain her urge to fling herself into Matteo’s arms and kiss the living daylights out of him, due to the presence of many other eyes in the room. But she promised herself that she would show just how pleased she was with his actions tonight after they thoroughly destroyed her scummy relatives.
Her blood boiled as she thought of her injured father, and she turned to Benji Wales. “Benji, my father has been assaulted by his brother. How are his injuries?”
“Your father was injured?” Benji asked, his mouth dropping in shock.
Clearly, his staff had failed to inform him of this critical detail, but then again, it was hard for them to tell him anything else that wasn’t Matteo Montgomery. That was the most pressing issue, after all.
“Yes,” Matteo barked out, casting a vengeful look at Joshua. That sniveling man was starting to sweat, and Matteo hoped he would pee in his pants before the day was over. At least they’d be able to give him a room for incontinence. “I plan to open a police investigation and take legal action. A lawsuit is incoming, and I hope your hospital will cooperate fully.”
While Matteo’s words were phrased as a request, everyone present knew that it was nothing short of an order. If the hospital would not cooperate, they would be the next targets for a lawsuit. Benji gulped and quickly replied.
“Of course, of course, the hospital will cooperate fully. There is no room for assault here.” Benji hoped that Amelia hadn’t told Matteo about his connection to Caleb, but then he realized that Matteo would have seen him on that day itself!
He paled further. Benji hadn’t spoken ill of Amelia during that fateful meeting at the bar, but would Matteo care about such trivialities?
Perhaps Matteo was too focused on Amelia to care about a small fry like him. He could only hope for the best.
While Amelia was heartened to hear that Matteo was willing to pursue this matter, her face twisted as she thought about her father. All the vengeance in the world would be worthless if her father could not make it through this incident unscathed.
“Matteo, where did you bring my father?’
“He’s under the care of several doctors in their emergency department,” Matteo said gently to Amelia as though he was soothing a baby. “They’ll let us know when they’re done treating him.”
His gaze turned significantly colder as he eyed Benji Wales. “I trust that your staff has at least more expertise when it comes to treating patients than their haphazard admittance policies.”
Benji coughed weakly. “Yes… of course… Mr. Kentwood will be well taken care of. I’ll also arrange for him to stay in our VIP ward, free of charge as compensation for the harm he suffered so far.”
“Hmph.” Matteo only let out a disdainful look at his attempt at compensation. The cost of a VIP ward would be nothing more than a drop in the ocean for him to afford, but Amelia was grateful enough to thank Benji for his apologetic gesture, even though she doubted her father would take it up.
“Mr. Montgomery.” There was a sharp rapping knock at the door, and everyone turned around to see two police officers in uniform waiting outside, along with a woman in a long trench coat. “Solara Police Department. Detective Bea speaking. We’re here because we heard there was a case of assault?” she asked brusquely.
“No! Nothing like that!” Martha exclaimed frantically. “This was just a tiny disagreement between brothers― surely there’s no need to involve such a distinguished detective like yourself.”
Her eyes quickly darted to Matteo, hoping for the slightest hint of mercy. “I beg to disagree,” Matteo said firmly. “Detective, the CCTV will show another story, and I have evidence.”
The three Kentwood family members could only watch in horror as Benji Wales gave them permission to access the security tapes.
With police officers stationed in the room to ensure they couldn’t escape, Matteo and the others went to the backroom to watch the CCTV footage.
In it, Lewis Kentwood was sitting upright, looking as right as rain, while his wife lounged on the couch. Joshua was speaking, and there was no denying the smug smile on his face as he gestured. However, that smile faded when the door opened to reveal Michael Kentwood.
There was a lot of yelling. The CCTV didn’t include audio, but there was no need for it. Amelia bit her lip as she watched her uncle slam her father on the floor, while his parents watched, completely unbothered by the violence before them. Martha Kentwood’s tiny figure even moved towards her sons and kicked Michael Kentwood’s fallen leg.
Amelia tasted blood. She was shaking with rage, and Matteo wrapped a hand around Amelia’s own shivering one, rubbing her knuckles in an attempt to calm her down.
“Mother of the year, I see.” Detective Bea’s nostrils flared in anger.
“I also have audio of their later conversations when we arrived in their room,” Matteo said, pulling out the pen and letting Joshua Kentwood’s voice ring out in the tiny room.
With every word that emerged, Detective Bea’s face darkened. By the time the audio clip was over, her face was as bright as the night sky.
“Thank you for letting me know. This is enough to at least get them charged with aggravated assault, along with fraud.”
“But how did they even get admitted, to begin with?” Amelia squeezed Matteo’s hand, as though it was a stress ball, her eyes focused on Joshua Kentwood’s smarmy face. To completely bypass a customary examination and get a premium room, Amelia was sure that someone more powerful was pulling the strings.
Could the police department actually charge the culprit, assuming they could find them to begin with? A worried frown crossed her face.

“I want to reveal all of this evidence online so as to clear the names of my future father-in-law and my fiancée.” Matteo helpfully informed the detective, and they stared at him, surprised. “Will that be a problem?”
“But what about the court case?” one of the officers asked. “If you make this evidence public, it might not be feasible to use in the court of law…”
