Marry My Billionaire Second Husband - Chapter 191
Chapter 191: Dead End
“I’m fine,” Michael Kentwood insisted as Amelia brought a spoon of porridge to his lips. “My hands still work. I can eat this by myself.”
“Your hands are shaking, Dad,” Amelia deadpanned. She sat at his bedside, the bowl of porridge placed on the side table while she held the spoon in her hands. “Just eat the porridge. You will need your strength to recover in time. Don’t you want to attend my wedding?”
Amelia mustered some tears into her eyes. In a softer voice, she added, “I’ll still need you to walk me down the aisle.”
Michael breathed out heavily while maintaining eye contact with Amelia. In the end, he was the first to break their connected gaze.
“Fine,” he all but grumbled before leaning in to eat the porridge. Amelia happily fed him more spoonfuls.
Ever since her father had regained consciousness, he was determined to rush out of the hospital to hunt down his family and the tabloids. Thankfully, Amelia managed to ease the fire on the latter when she showed him the article of their redeemed public image. He was still, however, determined to give his parents and brother a piece of his mind.
“Did the officers say anything about them?” Michael asked as soon as he swallowed the mouthful of chicken porridge. He hated eating this― it was always so bland. Yet, he had to admit that the way Amelia cooked it was a perfect replica of Elaine’s cooking. It tasted nostalgic.
“They’re still looking into the case,” Amelia replied. “Matteo has hired the best lawyers for this. For now, we’ve managed to secure a restraining order. They won’t be able to come anywhere near us, or even X’el, for that matter.”
“You should also sue them for the destruction of public image,” Michael sneered. “Those little leeches… They’ve already sucked out so much blood from us all through the years. Now they’re trying to take more.”
“There is bad news, though,” Amelia said as she set down the spoon back into the bowl. “It’s likely that Joshua found a powerful backing. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so brazen as to cause trouble in a hospital.”
And a private hospital at that. The patients admitted into this healthcare facility were all part of the wealthy or decently well-off. Lewis Kentwood would never have been admitted here, even if they used Amelia’s name.
“Maybe it’s your distasteful cousin again,” Michael Kentwood said. Then, he wrinkled his nose. “Or that hag she calls a mother.”
“Dad!” Amelia exclaimed, shocked by her father’s putrid words.
His patience for them had run thinner and thinner as the days went by, and now, he wasn’t even trying to hide his hatred for them. The comment did still bring a smile of amusement to Amelia’s lips.
“Am I wrong?” her father said, huffing. “I’ve seen photos of her when she was younger― even back when Elaine was alive, that witch was always dressing like your mother. She tried so hard to copy Elaine’s style but no matter how much she tried, she never received Horace’s favor.”
Michael snuggled further back into his pillows.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s them again, trying to ruin your reputation so close to the wedding date. I bet they’re more than eager to have it called off, to the point of desperation.”
“Well…” Amelia trailed off.
She never got the chance to finish her train of thought as a knock soon came from the door. The father and daughter pair turned their heads in sync to look, just in time to see Matteo poke his head in.
“It’s good to see you’re doing well, Michael,” Matteo immediately said.
When he stepped in, Amelia’s eyes fell on the basket of fruits and flowers he brought. It was also stacked to the brim with luxury supplementary foods, such as bird’s nest and expensive ginseng.
“All thanks to you,” Michael said. His voice was oddly softer than before.
Back when Amelia first introduced Matteo to her father, Michael Kentwood was always standoffish with him. It was more than obvious that he did not favor Amelia’s new fiancé, but after the numerous incidents that had happened, Amelia’s heart warmed knowing that the ice between their relationship was starting to thaw.
“I thought you were busy with work,” Amelia said, immediately standing up to take the basket from Matteo, which he held out towards her. “What brings you here?”
“I’ve finished all the meetings for today,” Matteo replied. He lowered his voice and continued, “There are developments too, regarding Joshua Kentwood and his parents.”
He then cast a glance at Michael from the corner of his eyes. Amelia pursed her lips. Her father’s eyes were trained on them. They weren’t standing too far, and no matter how softly Matteo spoke, Michael was bound to hear them.
True enough, her father said, “Go ahead.” He waved his hand to shoo them. “I just ate. Don’t make me regurgitate everything out with their foul names.”
Then, like a petulant child throwing a tantrum, he sharply yanked the covers to his shoulders before he turned in bed, facing the opposite direction. Amelia chuckled softly before leaving the room with Matteo.
As soon as the door was closed, Matteo said, “Benji Wales managed to trace down the staff that admitted Lewis Kentwood into the hospital.”
“Who is it?” Amelia asked, her expression hardening. Was it Emmeline? Annalise? Maybe even Kelsie?

“Samuel Wales,” Matteo answered. “Better known as Benji’s father.”
Now that was a foreign name. Amelia’s eyebrows shot up to her hairline, her eyes widening into the size of saucers.
“But why?” she asked, confused. “He doesn’t know them personally.”
“We can’t find anything further than that, unfortunately,” Matteo said with a sigh. “But the only people who have enough power to convince Samuel Wales to take such a risk to his name can only be someone of equal background.”
“Could it be Annalise?”
“It’s possible,” Matteo said. “But I have a different guess since Emmeline and her mother seem more preoccupied with the Dirges at the moment.”
Amelia remained silent, her lips pressed into a thin line.
“It might be my stepmother. And knowing her, if this is truly her handiwork, then Joshua Kentwood and his parents are just a means for her to test the waters.” Matteo’s gaze darkened. “The storm is yet to arrive.”
