Chapter 200: Demand A Test
To their surprise, Emmeline was long gone. According to the staff, it seemed that Emmeline had decided to visit her grandfather in the hospital along with her mother.
“Excellent. Since she’s already there, we can settle it today!” Ronan said, shooting Matteo an encouraging glance. “Who knows, maybe we’ll be back here before the clock strikes midnight to finish your wedding!”
Cherry was also eager to get it over with, but Matteo only felt a great tiredness, along with a feeling of unease he could not shake.
Somehow, he had a feeling this wasn’t even the end of it.
All of them arrived at the hospital through the private entrance and found Amelia and Annalise waiting in the private waiting room, sitting at two different ends of the room. Matteo went straight to Amelia’s side, ignoring Annalise’s presence. Emmeline was conspicuously absent.
“How are things?” Matteo asked worriedly.
“Not good,” Amelia confessed with a watery sniffle. “They say they caught signs of a minor stroke due to the delay in getting immediate treatment. We shouldn’t have held our wedding in a hotel― if we did it on the ground floor, the paramedics wouldn’t have taken so long.”
Horace Hawthorne was apparently still in the intensive care unit for observation, and he wasn’t able to accept visitors.
“It’s all because of that quack doctor! Who knows what he did to my father-in-law!” Annalise exclaimed, pointing to Isaac angrily. “I’ll sue you for medical malpractice!”
Isaac spluttered, “I resuscitated him! While strokes are an unfortunate occurrence, I am not responsible for them!”
Annalise wanted to argue further, but Dimitri loomed over with an impressive scowl on his face. “There was a delay in treatment, and the blame lies with your husband. He claimed he was calling for the ambulance, but in the end, it was the ambulance that I called that arrived first. Was your husband calling for an ambulance from another city? From outer space?”
Now, it was Annalise’s turn to splutter. Dimitri continued to glare as though he was going to put a hole in the wall next to her face. Sensing bloodshed in the near future, Isaac quickly cleared his throat and asked Amelia.
“Is your father back home?”
“Yes, yes he is,” Amelia said hurriedly. “I sent him back first since there isn’t anything he can do here…”
“Then let’s go, Dimitri,” Isaac pulled him away. “It’s not good to leave an old man at home by himself, especially after this incident. We’ll see you later, Amelia.”
“Bye,” Amelia and the others chorused as they took their leave. Annalise scoffed.
“What a bunch of faggots, no wonder your father―”
Ronan immediately leaped up and brandished his fist, fury in his eyes, “What did you say about my brother, you bitch?”
Next to him, Cherry was just as incensed, her hand outstretched as though she wanted to slap Annalise.
Annalise crossed her arms and raised her head challengingly. “I said what I said! Your family is going to be ruined by your brother! Anyone with eyes can tell what’s going on! Are you going to hit me? Do it then, if you dare! I’m sure your parents would love to hear what I have to say about both of you!”
Ronan let out a hiss, but eventually took a step back. His parents did not know about his brother’s tastes, and he wanted to keep it that way.
“That’s right, walk away, you’re just a child,” Annalise smirked victoriously.
“Where’s Emmeline?” Matteo barked out, tired of her presence. “The staff claimed that she was visiting her grandfather with you. I have to speak to her.”
Annalise smiled unkindly, “It’s a little too late for that, don’t you think? My daughter has made multiple attempts to contact you before regarding her pregnancy, and you have rebuffed her every time. Now she’s currently resting in one of the hospital rooms since she has suffered a big scare. What makes you think you have the right to see her?”
Ronan scoffed bitterly, “She caused the big scare to begin with. How can she be playing the victim now?”
“Where is she?” Matteo asked insistently. “I need to do a DNA test to verify her claims.”
“Well, wait a couple of months then!” Annalise scoffed. “How can you test an unborn child?”
“You can do that,” Matteo said. “In fact, that doctor you so helpfully insulted just now told us it was possible. Now where is Emmeline?”
Annalise’s face paled at his words. “No, that’s impossible! You believe that man? He’s not a suitable doctor. Who knows, he might simply be trying to cause Emmeline to miscarry! I refuse to let my daughter go through this!”
Ronan narrowed his eyes. “Oh? That sounds awfully strange. If Matteo was indeed the father of Emmeline’s child, wouldn’t you want an iron-clad confirmation before you and your daughter start running your mouth?”

“I will not ask again,” Matteo growled out. “Where is Emmeline?”
“I’m right here,” Emmeline’s dulcet voice chimed in as she opened the door to the waiting room. She had changed into a flowing sundress that highlighted the small baby bump. She cradled it protectively in her hands.
“Emmeline! What are you doing here? You heard the doctor, you need to rest―” Annalise immediately stood up and began to fuss over her daughter. “Sit down, sit down.”
“Come with me,” Matteo said, grabbing Emmeline’s arm. “We’ll need to do a DNA test.”
“Whatever for?” Emmeline asked warily, as she tried to tug her arm away.
“To prove that I’m responsible for your pregnancy, and not some random person on the street.”
To their surprise, Emmeline raised a hand and slapped Matteo’s cheek.
“How dare you! Do you think I’m a loose woman that sleeps with anyone? How could you, out of all people, insult me like this! You know that I’ve only ever had eyes on you all my life, and now after getting me pregnant, you further malign me and call me a whore?”
“I did no such thing,” Matteo growled out. “You put those words in your mouth, not me. Now, come with me and get tested. I refuse to let Amelia and I be dragged into the mud without proof.”
Emmeline let out a derisive scoff, and her eyes reached Amelia’s. “Cousin, are you sure you want to marry such a man?”
“If you have nothing to hide, then you should take part in the paternity test,” Amelia said evenly, unmoved by her attempts to drive a wedge between them. No matter what, she had to find out the truth of this matter.
“Fine! But when the results show that Matteo is indeed my child’s father, I demand apologies from all of you!” Emmeline cried out. “And you, you’ll have to leave him for good so that Matteo can give the child in my womb a complete family. Can you do that?”
