Chapter 217: There Is A Possibility
“What?” Amelia asked, stunned by Isaac’s sudden question. “I… I don’t know, maybe a month or so ago. Why?”
“Is it usually consistent?” Isaac continued. “And how long is every cycle?”
“Mine is,” she replied. “Maybe around twenty-eight days. Wait…” She squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. “Why are you asking me this?”
“Is there a chance you might be…” Isaac trailed off, but there wasn’t a need for him to finish his sentence. Amelia might’ve just woken up, but she wasn’t daft.
“You can’t possibly think that I’m…” she said, the last word hitching in her throat.
“Pregnant?” Isaac supplied. “Yeah, I think there’s a chance you might be.”
“No,” Amelia said, almost laughing at how ludicrous this was. “That’s not possible. We always―” She stopped short.
Did they? Every time she and Matteo had engaged in their long and heavy bouts of lovemaking, had they used protection? She couldn’t seem to recall. However, the more she tried to think back to it, the more her face paled.
“If you two hadn’t used protection and you had been sexually active in the last two months, there will always be a possibility,” Isaac slowly said, keeping an eye on Amelia to watch her reaction.
She stared blankly at the door past him as though she had been petrified to stone.
“It’s not impossible,” he continued. “Even if he pulled out, theoretically, the sperm could still―”
“Yes, yes, I know,” Amelia said, cutting Isaac off as she frantically shook her head.
Heavens. She could feel the knot retying itself in her stomach again, bringing the non-existent food in her stomach back up to her throat.
“Maybe it’s just indigestion,” Amelia said. “I haven’t been having proper meals, I admit. It could be that. Or heartburn!”
“Those are also symptoms of pregnancy in the early trimester,” Isaac said. “Frankly, I think it might be best for you to do a pregnancy test, just to be sure. You might wish to do more than just one, in case the first test is inaccurate.”
“Nope,” Amelia said, reaching up to grab at her own hair from the scalp. She could feel her heart thundering in her chest again, threatening to drop. “Nope. No, no, no, no, no, no. There is no chance that is happening. I’m sure it’s just the stress and everything that has been going on.”
“Wouldn’t you want to be safe rather than sorry?” Isaac asked. “What if you are? Then that could actually be Matteo Montgomery’s child― a child he actually wants! A child who could have a nice little family.”
“Not with everything that has been going on!” Amelia all but hissed. Good God. She felt damn near ready to throw up again. “This is the worst possible time for this! I can’t be― God. Please, I cannot be…”
She buried her head in her hands, her elbows on her knees. Amelia went silent for a second― it was so loud that Isaac could even hear the thump of her heart from a distance away.
“Look, it’s just a theory,” Isaac said. “This isn’t my specialty, I can’t say for sure. But if you don’t get your next period on time, you might wish to check.”
Amelia exhaled slowly through her lips, using long, deep breaths to control the pacing of her heart. Eventually, she managed to force the waves of nausea back down.
When she finally looked up, her eyes were red. She nodded, biting down on her bottom lip.
“I understand,” she said. “I’ll… I’ll take note of it. Thank you.”
“For now, I’ll prescribe you some pills for your nausea,” Isaac said. “But it’s best for you to eat something― and keep to a proper eating habit. If you can’t eat too much at one go, try eating more often in smaller portions.”
Amelia numbly nodded again.
When she and Isaac finally emerged from the bathroom, everyone had long been waiting on the living room couch. Michael stood up and made his way over to his daughter hurriedly, tenderly checking her.
“So?” he asked Isaac. “What is it?”
Isaac merely shared a look with Amelia. When he caught the small subtle shake of her head, he turned and smiled at Michael.
“Well, Mr. Kentwood, Amelia most likely just has indigestion,” he said. “The poor dining habits paired with stress have been taking a toll on her body. She needs to get that on track and she should be feeling better soon.”
“See, Millie, what did I tell you!” Michael Kentwood immediately chastised.

“She also needs a better place to sleep,” Isaac said. “Your current living arrangements are… less than desirable.”
“There isn’t anywhere else I can go,” Amelia said, sighing. “Cherry’s rental is up and she has moved out for the next couple of months, so that’s out of the question. And my dad’s old place…”
“The media already knows of its location,” Ronan finished her sentence for her. “How about the Hawthorne mansion? Or I’m sure you could stay at one of Matteo’s other houses.”
“She will return to the Hawthorne mansion over my dead body!” Michael Kentwood immediately roared.
“Emmeline has been kicked out,” Ronan pointed out. “She wouldn’t be an issue.”
“It’s not that witch I’m worried about,” Michael said. “Her evil mother is still there― Annalise. Who knows what she will do to Amelia when that old man isn’t looking? Not that he has done anything decent before, other than finally growing a pair and chasing that witch of a granddaughter out of the household.”
“I don’t want to stay in any of Matteo’s residences for now,” Amelia said, pinching the skin between her eyebrows. “We need some time apart until this storm dies down. Otherwise, Emmeline will just use it as leverage if the media catches any photos.”
At the same time, a sudden crash and bang came from outside. Everyone turned their gazes to their front door, frowning in confusion. A second of silence later, the same noise sounded again, followed by a familiar yowch.
“What the fuck―”
Ronan had barely even finished the sentence when Dimitri pulled the front door open, just in time to see Aiden Montgomery on the floor, a box over his head, and various knick-knacks scattered on the floor around him.
“Aiden?” Amelia said, surprised. “What are you… What is going on?”
